7. ...Uh, I really don't think people who loved that show are such a rare bread. I know a good deal of kids that I work with/go to school with/am friends with love that show. The problem Clone High had wasn't that it was bad, but they just picked the wrong channel to air it on. MTV is mostly sex and crappy reality shows and most of us don't go looking there for funny cartoons.

13. I haven't thought about this guy for seven years (when we had to watch his show in my class), and now he's suddenly everywhere. Carl Sagan is EVERYWHERE.

Mmmm, rare bread.

5: I was a pagan when I first saw The Prince of Egypt, and I approached it as a mythological story and loved it. There's no reason why an atheist shouldn't be able to appreciate it, love it -- even find it inspirational. A song like Heaven's Eyes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtmBzoPCTWA) has a message that makes sense even if you don't believe in God. "Though you may never know all the steps, you must learn to join the dance!"

27: OMG me too! The Gerry/Alice scenes are the only reason I've seen even one episode of The Vicar of Dibley. They are SO CUTE together. ♥

34: Hmmm...no. Hope that helps, have a nice day!

40: I've only seen it twice, but... me too. I own the film on DVD, but I haven't watched it yet: I'm saving it for when I get really depressed and need to bawl my eyes out. That scene is guaranteed to do it.

5. It's an awesome movie is what it is. Fuck that you don't believe in the religion it's from (or any religion for that matter,) it's a great movie made of a great story.

11. You obviously just need to find the right people. I think it's very interesting personally. Of course it's not for everybody (there's a reason it's called a fetish after all) but there's certainly nothing wrong with it and no reason to be ashamed of it.

22. Judeau was such an awesome character. I cried so hard when he died. ;_;

34. Lordy, lordy do I smell a troll? Heaven forbid people should talk about what they like, and on the internet of all places. You get the fuck off the internet, it will likely be a more pleasant place with you gone. <3

11

[identity profile] myaurasmiles.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
You need cooler friends. What kind of ass judges people based on crap like that?

[identity profile] karma-kalisutah.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
41. THANK YOU! That little comic annoyed me because it concluded that the Mai haters are in it for the boysex. Er, did you miss the part where most of them are rooting for Katara? Last I checked, she's a girl too.

I dislike Maiko not because I dislike Mai as a character (she's gotten better in season three, though she's still doesn't inspire the massive <3<3<3 that most of the other characters do), but because she seems to represent everything that he's eventually going to have to break free from. Their relationship worked well while he was playing the part of loyal princeling, but I don't see how she could have any constructive part in his life as a redeemed man.

(And no, for the record, I'm not a Zutaran.)

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I find that most people who blindly hate Mai but love their Zutara also hated Jin and Song for getting anywhere NEAR being in the way of their chosen pairing.

Either nobody is good enough for Zuko, or there is only ONE girl who is - the girl that everyone met first and identifies with. Katara is their one and only 'self-avatar' - they can pretend to be her, or Sue the hell out of her in their fanfics, so that it's like a 'self-insertion fanfic but not'.

If Katara had come in later in the series she would probably get the same venom and someone else would be playing fangirl insert puppet. -_-

That said, I chiefly ship Zutara where Zuko is concerned, and fans like that make me embarassed to admit it most of the time.

1. All I keep thinking is "if you're so smart, explain this Clarissa!"

2. Only you can know for sure if redacting the smut was worth the price of your friendship.

11. I accept you. But only if you're telling the truth.

18. Have you considered that it may be possible to let people know these things without taking a rude and condescending tone?

20. Not fandom?

OP #21

(Anonymous) 2007-12-31 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, iknorite.

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
3. OMYES. I adore Dil. He's like, the reason I even gave All Grown Up a chance <3. If I could meet someone like him, I'd so give relationships a chance.

5. I agree with an older secret on the Prince of Egypt... The movie reminds what it felt like to truly believe.

25. Oh... I love that you chose to use those specific two Viera <3. I've been fixated with them since I first saw them.

28. I still LOVE that butchered Digimon movie. I'd hate it if I'd only recently become involved with the fandom, but I grew up with the dubs and cheesy dialogue and weird pop music, so it holds a very dear place in my fandom heart.

33. RAWR, God I know. I was so in love with Basil as a child... Also Secret of N.I.M.H. secret FTW!!.

38. I CRIED, TOO. I mean, two seasons of constant struggling and ignoring Iroh... That moment of pure redemption was absolutely fucking perfect. It made me so happy that I never gave up on him.

40. I still tear up just because I remember how shocking that moment was when I was younger.

41. A lot of those arguments stem from the fact that many of the same female fans (many, not all; people jump on me for making generalisations even when I specify that it's not everyone) that will dislike a female character and attribute it to a personality trait often like male characters that display a similar trait. I'm not siding with anyone in particular, just saying.

[identity profile] wazira-sharira.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to your idea of 41. People who call Elizabeth Swann a Mary Sue drive me up the wall, because she's not doing ANYTHING that the male characters aren't also doing and being worshipped for.

[identity profile] seifaiden.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
11. If folks have problems with your activities then they aren't worth your time or energy; to each their own. Maybe it's just the circles I frequent, but I haven't seen anyone react poorly to anyone being a trained (or training to be a) sub, dom or anything else for that matter.

24. DISCLOSURE: I don't count myself as a feminist. That being said, while I believe that more traditional feminine characters can be strong, I still find adherence to cultural traditions of most kinds and "girliness" (or machismo, if we're going to talk about the gender binary here) a nearly insufferable trait in characters/IRL.

[identity profile] tahneemonkee.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
7. JAOIADFJIOSJDSI clone high <3 you can talk to me! ;D
21. OMG. Yes. :D
44. Wow, harsh...

[identity profile] el-hustino.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
5. Buhwhat? What does being an athiest have to do with enjoying a piece of fiction? I think you're mixing up 'athiesm' with 'hating anything and everything remotely related or connected to any form of religion whatsoever' which, despite being a common misconception, are not the same.

11. There's training for that? Do you...go to classes or something?

21. AN IMPOSSIBILITY WITH OPTIMUS AROUND.

25. Pfft, what? Who cares if it's commissioned? There's no reason for anyone to bitch. Just don't enter a costume contest.

29. Everyone needs to love Rukiaaaaaa.

31. Of course they don't.

41. ?_? Except that the vast majority of main female characters that are the targets of irrational hate aren't flat and boring as hell.

34. Hahahaha. Such a fun quote.

I FUCKING HATE APPLES. GET OUT OF THE SUPERMARKET. NOW.

42. ?_? I don't get it. Why?

5. op

[identity profile] slylilgoblin.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
5. 'Kay. Coming out of hiding to answer this one XD I don't hate anything and everything connected with religion. I've read and enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia, A Prayer for Owen Meany, and I go to a Catholic high school. So even if I did hate all religiosity, it would have made me pretty exhausted what with having to be actively hating it 5 days a week for four years. The point of the secret was more that I feel weird reacting to the movie the same way I did when I was a kid, and that confuses me because so much of what I think has changed. I also feel like I shouldn't like it, not because of my being an athiest, but because I'm not a Christian. I'm not in the target audience any more, and I feel like I'm cheating by watching this faith that I don't have.

So there you go. Sorry for the big friggin' block of text. I was going to be a lot bitchier, but then your comment for 21 made me laugh. Sheesh. Thanks a lot for deflating me.

SUPER SUPER late to the party but.

22.

That panel feels like a kick to the gut every time, and it is entirely true and I agree with you. I cosplay as Judeau in hopes that some of that amazing heroness may rub off on me. It's still hard to believe that in the real world, anybody could exist with such a wonderful spirit and bravery. But I keep on hoping.

[identity profile] pureblood-x.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
5. When I first saw it, I was a Christian. I don't know what I am anymore, but I still think it's beautiful.
7. Clone High is win. But I already loved JFK and Abe Lincoln, tbh.:D
21. LOL. I loved the Decepticons, tbqh.
27. I <3 that show.
33. The Great Mouse Detective was one of mine too, but I'm not a fur.:D It's all good.
34. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but, honestly, there's no way you could have ever seen every anime series out there and, therefore, that is a pretty ignorant opinion-despite what you think you know.

[identity profile] koshou-panda.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
44. Wow... you're an ass, you know that?

[identity profile] speaky-bean.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
18. Not everything comes on google. I've tried looking up several acronyms that show up online sometimes, and they don't come up. I google everything I'm confused about, but it doesn't always work. I can't really blame anyone for using another method to find out.

34. That's like saying that you don't like books. Or movies. Anime has so much variety, that saying it all sucks just doesn't work. I mean, you can not be into it, of course, but it's all so DIFFERENT.

40. My mom did that too. And I would probably have done so if I actually cried at movies. ^_^

31. And lesbian porn is completely accurate and only ever had by thin, pretty girls wearing high heels who go "Oooo. Yeah. Yeeeeeah".

...

aka: no one cares if it's accurate or not. :|

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's why I find lesbian porn so boring... It's so much more interesting IRL. I suppose that could be said of most porn, but I wouldn't know XD.
