25. Ditto. So much so. I would love to cosplay a random Viera but I haven't looked in to it on a more serious level. I am going to a con early next year with a costume I didn't make myself. I am slightly worried people will give me a hard time. . .but it isn't like I will say I made it myself.

28. :3 Ditto.

25. Theres...somehting WRONG with commissioned costumes? O_o;

28. I honestly liked the dub digimon movie 100x more than the three japanese ones that it was made from. It had more hardcore fight music, it wasnt CONFUSING AS HECK, and It was just more awesome to me.

40. ;w; me too~ I even get chocked up when "brother my brother" plays D:

10. Ahaha, I remember watching my brother beat LttP as a kid myself! ^^

11. That picture's hawt.

12. HOLY CRAP it's a Soul Calibur secret. Reminds me of how much I used to make fun of Mary-Sues in the fandom when I was still in it.

34. Whatev. =P

41 and 24, since they're sort of connected.

41 -- Speaking for myself, I get mad at the people who hate practically every female character out there (they do exist, trust me), not people who don't like some of them because they have lousy personalties, and have male characters they don't like either. (And maybe I get mad at people who hate a female character so damn much that it consumes their entire being.) Or maybe I'm just being agreeable because that seems to be Mai, and I don't really like her either. (And it's not because I care who Zuko ends up with.)

24 -- I don't think I could ever dislike Integra Hellsing, but if one more person points her out as what every female character should be but never is (Except Integra! I don't hate her! So I'm not misogynistic at all!) I'm going to freaking scream.

24. Meet 41.

And from my own experience, I hate EITHER set if all they are can be encompassed in 2-3 words. I prefer the flat powerful female more then the flat girly girl, but only because flat powerful ones are bearable. They both sucks.

(I have no idea what you're specific example are, I don't think Intergra is flat, so IMO she wouldn't count as either)

34. Anyone who hates a medium, across the board, is stupid. But since there's more of us then you, have fun :D

My thoughts exactly.

31. What's there not to get? The physical dynamics are generally pretty easy to understand, and if you mean emotionally, homosexual relationships are as diverse as heterosexual ones.

34. Poor dear.

41. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to people who say they dislike a character "because of the character", but god knows I've been burned too many times to really let my guard down about it-- I know too many people who start to dislike a character only when she might possibly a love interest, or stop hating a character only when she's taken off the table as a romantic interest. And that's the argument that's always used "I don't hate her because she's female, I hate her because of the character."
It makes one a little jaded after a while.

Re: 31...and a very loquacious lowfat

Please forgive us, [livejournal.com profile] ryuutchi for what might appear as stalking but we can assure you, we feel nothing but the utmost respect for your level-headedness and wish to voice that.

31 - You are asking a very valid question. It is ridiculous to assume that just because a relationship is of a different sexual dynamic than the heteronormative, that it is somehow special and unique in how it gets handled.

Sex is sex, the technical details might be slightly different, yes, but the biological and and primal drive to engage in it is pretty universal and across the board in motivation. It is not specific to one sex or another, one sexual inclination or another. It's universal and individual.

We think the secret poster could have been a little more specific. There's slash and yaoi authors "not getting it" because of inexperience but we haven't seen an across the board nonunderstanding of it. There are some wonderful female slash and yaoi writers who, in our humble Real Life Experience, who are very close to getting it right.

It's like you read my mind! I'm also an atheist, and I looooove that movie. Love the music, love the animation, love the not-overly-accurate take on the story. And I normally can't stand anything even remotely religious. Go figure....

Re: 5

(Anonymous) 2007-12-30 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
My two cents: being a non-religious, non-atheistic blob of apathy, I adore the movie for its character interactions. There are very few Biblical movies that actually capture the human emotions of the figures involved (iow, Rameses/Moses drama FTW). They usually focus too much on the awe-inspiring-ness of God (which I don't care much about, being a blob of apathy) and forget about the men who think, "Dude! I gotta kill a whole bunch of people with plagues!" Seriously, that's where the story is...

Hans Zimmer + Stephen Schwartz + traditional animation = my OT3, too

Who do you think I am/they are? I'm curious, 'cause if you're part of the fandom you're probably right! It was so tiny and obscure... But, really, I'd only be happy with it coming alive again if there could be less epic wank in it this time around!

♥ I was so in love with that show. Lol, when I was little, I thought she was awesome for having her own computer & a pet alligator (or was he a crocodile..)

D: She was on Law & Order earlier in the week and she played a teacher who had sex with a student then had an abortion. If it had been just another actress I wouldn't think anything of it, but it was Clarissa! I was shocked.

34. Good luck with that, lol. The trolls are getting almost idealist now.

41. YES. I saw that and it made me want to claw my eyes out. I don't hate Mai because I'm a woman-hater. My favorite characters are almost always female and I like het and yuri etc. I hate Mai because she is less interesting than a cardboard box and her relationship with Zuko is poorly-developed and creeps me out.

5. I feel the same way about liking Narnia.

41. The attitude you're denouncing is...sort of why I don't tell people I'm not fond of Jasmine. Oh, I don't hate her, but everyone else worships the ground she walks on and I'm sure I'd be yelled at for "hating the strong woman" if I went around telling just anyone I didn't like her. Thinking she's an anachronistic, defiant brat who relies on beauty instead of fighting fairly doesn't mean I'm misogynistic, because I am a woman and write decent female characters.

[identity profile] gratuity.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 04:07 am (UTC)(link)

1. CLARISSA~~~~

2. Ugh, lame. Unless it's actually a gift for her, don't compromise or edit your writing just to make your friends happy.

20. This isn't going to end well.

24. Sometimes I feel the same way, and it sucks because some of my favorite characters are Strong Women. Fucking misogynistic "feminists".

34. WAAAAH I HATE SOMETHING SO IT'S NOT ALLOWED TO EXIST ON THE INTERNET BAWWWWWW

41. The "fandom is misogynist" argument loses its merit when you think of the fact that people are STILL bashing Mamoru and Shinji after all these years. Female bashing is more COMMON and people expect more from fictional women, but there's just as many male characters who get bashed for being pansies or getting in the way of another guy shacking up with the girl.

There's misogyny WITHIN fandom, definitely, but fandom as a whole isn't misogynistic.

That said, 24/41 OTP lol.

Parody: GOOD ONE. XD

24...

(Anonymous) 2007-12-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, 24, I think the bigger problem is that you're looking at things through too narrow a perspective and projecting your own gender stereotypes/expectations (strong and independent = "mannish") onto characters and other fans.

I don't do, and have not seen any other feminist fans, do what you're saying. I have, however, seen a lot of misognists like you who try to turn things around and place the blame on those who like characters that don't fit into your own preferred gender stereotype.

Strong and independent /= unfeminine.

Re: 24...

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-12-29 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
...HOW did you get "misogyny" from that secret? I believe the OP was simply defending traditional feminine qualities, not saying ALL STRONG WOMEN SUCK GIRLS SHOULD BE LADYLIKE AND BAKE COOKIES AND SEW LACY PILLOWS!!. There's a difference.

But, that's just my take. *shrugs*

Another word to 30: I, at the very least, tolerated Makoto. I thought he was his own antagonist, and he made some pretty shitty choices that set him up for his own fate. In other words, he was fucking human. And to me, he didn't deserve to die like that at all. :/

Secret 30 OP

(Anonymous) 2007-12-31 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah. In a sense, practically *everybody* was their worst antagonists, making the worst choices possible and then suffering the consequences of their screw ups. Even poor Kotonoha - she didn't deserve all the bullshit that happened to her and I still adore her to bits, but she *did* choose to blame Sekai more than Makoto, which was a huge factor in her later breakdown along with Otome and her Bitch Squad (my pet name for Natsumi, Kumi and Minami)'s bullying and Taisuke raping her.

I would've liked Makoto's death to be a bit more similar to the one in his own bad ending in the game, with him actually getting a chance to express his own feelings on the whole matter as Sekai fatally injured him. =/
