wow did you even pay attention to the mechanics of anything they're doing at all? this is where i pity you for trying to kill yourself, right? shut the fuck up.

Re: 18;

(Anonymous) 2008-01-02 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's not a horribly insensitive thing to say at all.

It's probably a secret because she doesn't want to tell anyone she tried to commit suicide before. Note that it's not the person herself who refuses to play the game because of what the characters do, it's that she's worried about what her parents will think of it. Do you think the parents see the "actual mechanics"? No, they'll see teenagers putting guns to their heads. Doesn't matter what they're trying to accomplish by doing it, the fact still remains that they are doing it, which brings back bad memories.

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding what you've said, but your comment struck me as extremely uncalled for. =| Being on the internet doesn't give you the go-ahead to be a prick to people.

As a Jade/Dist fan, I want to proclaim not all of us are completely batshit, only the loud ones are. Then again, the loud ones are generally batshit while the others go into hiding.

Anyway, my reasoning for liking them is this:
[Go down to the bolded sentence if you know this already lol]

Dist is pathetic, clingy, obsessive, but for a greater cause in his eyes. I think his obsession is amplified with Jade just simply because of his genius - he sees Jade as the only one to revive Nebilim who meant everything to Dist. Dist is really stuck in the past to the point he can't move on thus sees Jade as a means of a greater goal. A return of his 'former self' along with his teacher Nebilim. I don't think his flamboyant nature comes from the fact he's gay but it roots from the fact he likes attention.

Jade is moving on in the future, has left Dist behind, and still is somewhat emotionally retarded even to his friends. It's shown he somewhat cares for Dist if you look carefully, but it's totally not romantic. It seemed like Jade took an odd responsibility for Dist, like he carries the same weight throughout the whole game. Jade's main issue is the fact he doesn't fully understand how his actions, distance, insensitivity to situations, and logical nature can lead to concequences thus why he hinted some guilt when he had to 'kill' Dist. [which he never does. :')] While at the end of the game, we have a hint he wants to change for the better, we can't be too sure about if he will or not as his personality is already in place.

I'm not sure if it'd ever be romantic at all, or even sexual - thus why I rarely read works of the pairing. Perhaps I'm elitist in that respect, but I don't enjoy the portrayal Jade and Dist being shown as 'old lovers' or the like. I think Dist's emotions were only on his side alone and that's why I find it so interesting that Dist no matter how much abuse he goes through will not waver.

Uh, so basically for tl;dr it seems like I enjoy their potential interaction more than the potential romance and sex.

However - I will not lie, there are a lot of batshit fans in the Jade/Dist fandom. But for every pairing in fandom, there are people that emphasis the wrong things about it. I know for a fact I myself am irritated at Asch/Luke - also to a lesser degree Jade/Guy, and Peony/Jade.

However, I'm sorry to say that people have been pushing that pairing on you, as I had similar situations with the three pairings above that I can barely see. [ Well I used to see Peony/Jade, but it would cheapen Peony's character in my personal opinion now that I read the Peony Gaiden. D: ]

Let it be known though I don't think people will attack you for disliking it, it's cool as long as you don't criticize the person behind it for liking it.

Guh, that came out seriously long hahaa.

23. Because she's Sakura and all around amazing? More so in her Card Captors incarnation, IMHO.

24. ME TOO! Sailor Moon ftw?

25. Well, think about it. Where did Pocahontas live? Native America. They had trouble fitting Mulan in as it was. Besides, can you imagine her world being as fun as Wonderland was?

(haha, all in a row like that, weird.)

31. I read a review of it before I saw it. Know what it said? It said that if you're expecting a film version of the stage play, this movie is NOT for you. Sweeney Todd pulled off a Les Miz. Les Miz is TOTALLY different in all three versions. Deal with it, alright?

38. As long as good writers keep writing great stories, there will always be something to read.

I was going to write a great big response, and I replied to a couple people already, but it's on the eighth page and I decided to pontificate in my journal anyway because this triggered a whole big train of thought. So I'll cut short my teal deer.

Pocahontas arguably does deserve it more, yes. However, the Princesses play a specific story role, and Alice's was pretty much to be a Plot Victim. From a design, thematic, and storytelling perspective, Alice and Wonderland fit the needs of "first world on your journey!" better than Pocahontas and her world would have.

Also, being a princess and being a Princess of Heart don't necessarily correspond. Alice isn't the only one who's not an actual princess, they THOUGHT Wendy might be despite her not being an actual princess, and there's at least one actual princess who didn't get Princess of Heart status.

It's your right to be displeased with it, but there's actually some pretty good reasons why they picked Alice.

2, hey.

[identity profile] numi-nami.livejournal.com 2008-01-02 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way.

...okay, I'm depressed now. It's not like I plan to make a sole living out of drawing and such (okay, actually it's a fallback option) but. You know. People, especially those in the industry of art , look down on fanartists, because they keep on saying we don't have creativity.

Well, fuck that, I think it takes a fair amount of thinking to create poses and situations to place a character in.

BUT it's still not our characters and that merits less credit than original characters that nobody cares about. *coughdeviantARTcough*

3. It was the first pairing I ever REALLY felt "OTP" about. Like I just couldn't envision them with anyone else.

8. This is really amusing me for some reason. It's making me wish I worked in a foppish menswear department...

16. Ha, I am usually guilty of this too. (I love a good villainous outfit, I do.)

32. YES!!!!! This is why, as much as I love 30 Rock, and as much as I'm starting to get into The Office, I just can't get over how criminal it was that Arrested Development was cancelled. Because it was the BEST FUCKING SHOW EVER MADE. God, I wanna go watch it right now just because of this secret.

33. WHAT?! Psh... *loves Jade/Dist*

38. I dunno, the kink meme seemed to generate a lot of good pr0n...

39. Lol, is that Lloyd Irving?!

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-01-02 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I gotta add in a bit here.

DON'T GO DOWN THE DARK PATH!

On one hand, I love finding other fanartists, and I'll admit, fanart is often the first thing I check out. If I like it, I probably dig around the artist's original stuff more.

...it all started with a little doodle of Xelloss. And now...I swear, it's all I draw. It's all I want to draw, more often than not, because even when I'm trying to make monies off of it, the point of my drawing, for me, is to draw stuff that I want to see, and dangit, no one has yet drawn the Doctor and Rose running from psychotic space monkeys or whatever, and I can count the number of folks who draw some of my favorite characters on one hand, so it falls to me. Same thing with fanfiction, more or less.

And then it just becomes a bloody addiction.

Numbah Two

THANK YOU.

I've been a Sweeney Todd fan for nearly eight years, and worried so much about what Burton would do with the movie. As much as I love Johnny Depp, and have done for easily twice the time I've liked Sweeney Todd...I just blanched when I saw the casting. I thought it was wrong. Same with Helena Bonham Carter and, to an extent, Alan Rickman. And I really like the three of them as actors; I do.

The consensus I've heard was that Sweeney Todd was a good film, but that one can't really walk out of a theater saying, "That was a good adaptation of a musical."

I hesitate to see what's going to happen with squeeing fangirls. And I flinch whenever I see people wearing the Sweeney Todd shit they bought at Hot Topic. It's just...ugh. Either of you OPs having problems separating the two fandoms?

(TL;DR?)

Sure you can. I do it all the time.

Hey, maybe people like a movie, and want to wear a shirt because of it. REVOLUTIONARY IDEA ZOMG.

41 : What fandom is it ?

Fuck yes, #32.

As much as I love The Office (UK, US, whatever), and as much as I love the attention it gets, I can't help but wonder "where were all these people?" just two years before.

WHY, FOX? WHY? And why, you fucking idiotic, American Idol-addictive, reality TV-devouring American audience? Why?

Number 3:

I know, right? You start off playing thinking Edgeworth is a jerk off and privately laughing at the losers you know are online slashing him with Phoenix and cut to a year later, you're frantically search for every mention of Phoenix/Edgeworth on the kink meme.

I try to tempt myself with other things, like Gumshoe/Edgeworth or Phoenix/Maya, but it doesn't work! Stupid pairing, I've never been a crazy mainstream slash fangirl before them. D:
