I don't belong to this fandom and I don't know these artists so I can be pretty subjective in what I'm about to say.

Personally, I don't see a huge difference between one or the other. The one on the left seems to have a more unique "style" than the one on the right, but the coloring/inking/etc. seems about the same skillwise. Of course, we could go scan their entire galleries and get a real educated opinion, but I'm not THAT invested in this :P

People don't seem to realize that on DeviantART, it takes more than just "skill" to get comments and faves. The more active you are in the community itself, the more of those things you'll get. You have to put yourself and your art out there so that people will notice you. Not everyone combs through every category looking for fanart. Oftentimes someone will click on your icon if you comment on something, or maybe they'll see something of yours in a club, or like a character from a fanart someone did for you, etc.

Honestly though, why are comments and faves such a big deal? I admit I enjoy getting them, but I try not to worry too much about who's getting more or less than me. There are definitely talented people that go ignored on DA. But you tend to notice that those people just upload work and don't do much else.

23: YES, THANK YOU. Yuffie always seemed a useless nuisance to me. For crying out loud, you could progress through the game without her.

32: Lol, I thought those were two wangs by Naruto's face, not his fingers.

16 - FF9 is so unappreciated, everyone I talk to doesn't like it. I think it's great even though Kuja is king of utterly ridiculous outfits.

Sorry that no one likes your nonsensical pairing, 37. Cause, really.

It's nonsensical.

[identity profile] luna-kitsu-blu.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
...considering its not what the secret is even about, there's no reason to be sorry.

13. And girls with gravity-defying FF-cup boobs on otherwise teeny-tiny frames are more realistic? CRY MOAR. It's fantasy. And besides, some of us like guys with long hair, and yes, it can look good in real life if the guy knows how to take care of it.

16. I fucking LOVE FFIX, it's so underrated.

21. I WOULD KILL FOR (good) FIC OF THAT PAIRING. Hi, you're awesome, and no, I don't get anime fandom being all "eww!" over RPS either. Then again, my first slash fandom was RPS, so I might be biased, but I don't see the squick with slashing real people, especially J-rockers, who often hide behind the personas they project onstage so they might as well BE characters. [/thoughts]

33. FUCKING WIN! I love them as a pairing - actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've READ House fic that wasn't Foreman/Chase. I'm not in the fandom, though, I just read fic when I'm in the mood for it.

43. That would be SO HOT.

25. I swear, Jo and Blair are the reason I love bickering couples so much.

32. LOL! Epic win.

47. I don't get why they would cast someone who looks that much like Cameron, and then give that character many of the same traits. Is that the actual reason why Cameron dyed her hair blonde?

11. Your idea. It has merit ♥

32. I lol'd.

40. That's... a bit uncalled for. I'm supposing that's the reason it's a secret, but couldn't you at least have waited a little bit longer? I mean they're real people and they couldn't just stay together because you liked how their characters interacted :\ I know one of them feels bad enough about it already without people like you making her feel guilty. Not to say that your secret is tasteless, but really, letting things rest a bit longer? Would have been really nice.

47. ): Admittedly, I haven't seen the most recent episodes, but I like her. Probably because she reminds me a lot of myself, but eh ^^' Even her reasoning for not wanting to know is similar to my way of thinking.

[identity profile] tigediane.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
4. People are starting to forget about her? That's depressing. She's one of SNL's greatest cast members.

[identity profile] hopelikefever.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
21. You know, being a big anime fan myself, I just gotta say that I think Gackt is gross because Gackt is gross. Seriously. He can't act. He sings like a goat. It's not a phobia of 3D people--it's a dislike of people who I think aren't talented and are over-glorified because they're "pretty". Granted, that doesn't mean I don't find it hilarious when he dances. This extends to a lot of J-Rockers in general (especially the male ones), because I can't really stand "the look". I'm more of a lover of men who are fuzzy, chunky, and dorky, myself. ♥

And as for RPS, I don't know those persons, or their personalities. Not only that, but if they're real, I have a chance of meeting them IRL, and the last thing I want to do is think about... oh, say, a Yuri Lowenthal x Jamieson Price fanfiction I wrote when I see the man at a con. Hell, I can't even write porn of their characters because of it. And I waaaant tooooooo auuuuugh.

PLAYSTATION SECRETS WOO

16. I agree - it's my favorite, as well. FREYA. ♥

23. I like all three! But I think I like Yuffie the best - I like that she's, you know, not all bubbly and cheery all the time. She's selfish and immature, and the game actually calls her on it, which is way cool in my opinion.

28. I think there are probably a couple of reasons why LoD never really took off as a fandom. I know it wasn't really well received when it came out (mediocre reviews, etc.) and it got a lot of flack in some gaming circles for being too derivative and not living up to the hype, plus it came out at a time when several other games were in the limelight. I remember being a member of a few prominent RPG forums at the time, and it was the butt of many jokes, sadly.

Which is not to say you shouldn't enjoy it or anything. :) I guess it just never really found its feet. And since new gamers today don't seem too keen on playing older PSOne games (I mean, look at FFVII fandom)...well, I can't see a fandom suddenly blossoming into being any time soon.

That said, judging by the replies here, there does seem to be some interest. Why not try organizing stuff, like a comm or something? Or you could just contact some of the repliers here and squee about the game, if you want. I know it can be no fun to work on building a fandom when you feel like no one's listening, but you might as well give it a shot, right?

[identity profile] sinnersplight.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
This is true! Good advice, it'd be nice to squee at least. And yeah by most game standards it was pretty sub-par as far as graphics, translation, and awesome battle systems go. But it was fun and I rather liked the story line even if it was a tad cliche.

Sometimes cheesy is fun!

12. But everyone who enjoys cartoon animals is a furry! Just like how everyone who says anything slightly positive about Japan is a weeaboo.

21. But paper and ink are way hotter than real people! :(

A) That's creepy;
B) Get over it. They broke up for a reason and frankly, the popular opinion is that Shahni is a bitch and Lizzie is an idiot.
C) I doubt that either of them want to be well-known for being "that girl's girlfriend."

In summary: crai moar.

13.Yeah, Hair lengh at one point was just SOOO HOT.But now I can't stand it. I now only draw males with short hair. It makes me feel better that I don't like 'bishies' anymore.

17.haha! You are a very freakin awesome person! I'm sure at one point everyone googled that! haha, again. Darn you hipsters are your crazy music!! *1 voice counts for 1000!

37. Yeah, it's a sad truth. You just have to kind of deal with it. All I can to to support your cause (which I've been doing on the DA for many years now) is just browse the catagories and find the real talent amoung the BNF's. So you're right, but once again I must state the sad truth: it's not going to change. But still you should do your part and fight the good fight FOR UNKNOWN ARTISTS EVERYWHERE!!! ROOOAAAR!!!

45.Yeah, I'm freaked about that too. (not the fanart part, but the concept art flamers)But at the same time I really want to put it up there. I'm improving on my own at home (i've got a sketchbook full of anatomy and face designs in there) and one day I hope I have the courage to post it. (it'll take convincing but I'm sure you can do it!)

In some ways I agree, but... well, for one thing, Keysha-chan's art isn't BAD, and she herself often wonders about her own popularity. Furthermore, I'm sorry, I may not know the characters but the art you gave as an example is, I feel, inferior. I know several devartists who I feel deserve more press, but honestly, they don't update very often, which means they won't get as much exposure.

In the end, faves honestly don't matter. I like the moments of favehopping when I find something unique and new and DIFFERENT which never get DTF'd.

Finally... due to the poor quality of the example work, I gotta say that this looks like an example of a butthurt artist posting a "secret" 'cause she's wondering why she isn't as popular as X. Sorry, had to say it (at least I'm not doing it as Anonymous.)

Re: 37

[identity profile] luna-kitsu-blu.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
yeesh, yeah, I can see how it came off that way, but no, I (artist on the right) didn't post that. If I had, I one, would have picked a better picture (cuz I'm not that proud of that one considering, and I was experimenting with a new coloring technique that went WRONG) and two, would have pointed out it WAS my art.

As for the rest of your opinion--more power to you.

13. Whenever someone posts a secret describing Ed as "girly" I break my brain trying to figure out just how exactly the term applies to him. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone mistake Kouga for a girl. Envy is supposed to be androgynous. And also I can't quite see the picture of Hotohori, but if that's Nuriko with him . . . well someone just fails at reading comprehension, don't they?

Hint: Long hair =/= girly

Also, some people like it. Wow imagine that, people have different tastes.

#37. Well, not knowing anything about the fandom or even what it is, I'd say that the one on the left is actually drawn better than the one on the left. That would probably explain it to some extent.

Re: #13

(Anonymous) 2008-01-04 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome, I totally respect what you say. It's just my opinion. I did fail to mention that it was just long hair in general that bothered me, and the girly ones especially did. I guess I have a totally different taste then, huh? =)

[identity profile] jesscheaux.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
14. I have been waiting for this for the DBZ live action movie for A LONG TIME! Is it really true? I can't find any good UP TO DATE sites about it! DBZ was my first big fandom and I sometimes wish I was as into it now as I was back then XD oh the memories and the nostalgia it brings! I loved Vegeta too (and Piccolo ;D)

15. Weird Al's Alternative Polka is AWESOME!!!

18. Should've watched the Japanese version with subtitles! You can totally tell he's a man with his Japanese voice XD

4. Gilda! My cousin looks just like her. And acts a lot like her, too. She hates when you point it out, but YES. GILDA. LOVE.

9. The more I see that complaint, the more I'm glad I didn't get the books from the library until this week. 'Cause, seriously? Now all I can see is who they cast and it works just fine in my head. (Of course, I agree with the movie's chances of sucking because I'm not even that far in and it's delightfully lame.)

46. I'm really starting to think all the good fic writers in every fandom fried out creatively at exactly the same time. *sigh*
