And for the record, I don't really agree, either. Sure, there are some guys that definitely look very feminine, but the length of their hair has little to do with that, if anything. I've seen plenty of anime/manga guys with longer hair that were quite obviously very male, even in plain appearance. And likewise, plenty with shorter hair who still looked very feminine.

Aha, sorry about my secret. You see, when I made this, I intended on saying about how long hair on guys in general bothered me. But the way it worded out, it says that all anime guys with long hair are girly. That's actually not what I mean...

Like I just said, it's just long hair on anime guys that bothers me. It's just a weird thing that I noticed. And I put this Fakir guy in there because I think he has long hair. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

13. rofl, my Axel's questioning why he made it on there and not Riku. *snerk* Aside, I pretty much agree with what others are saying -- I understand where you're coming from, but a) guys with long hair in RL can be really hot b) they need to come up with different hairstyles in anime even to just separate the characters, since there's only so many unique facial traits they can draw in. I know when I'm starting a new anime that I usually tend to remember who characters are based on the colour and style of their hair, since it takes a while longer for their faces and voices to become clearly distinguished.

16. A-motherfucking-men. Though I love FFVII too, I'm completely boggled at how and why FFIX fandom is virtually nonexistent, especially looking at the popular response your secret's gotten so far. The cynical side of me wants to point out that it's probably because it's lacking in hot characters, which makes me facepalm. There's Zidane, who I still have a raging crush on, there's Garnet, who's pretty but looks about 10, there's Beatrix who is incredibly hot ~~especially in that doujin >>;~~, there's Kuja who's all of pretty, witty, and gay, but then... the rest are either children or not human/Genome. But then there are the supporting chara-- okay, I don't even know. :C

For the fucking win. ♥ I still remember waaaay back in the day when I used to hang out on the Gamewinners.com LoD forum and I didn't even know what fandom was at that age, but we did skits and crack and it was awesome. God, I miss that. I love Albert, so I wasn't so sad that he was the replacement, but I definitely cried with Lavitz as well. ;;

14. I still am. It's what I grew up on, and it's still one of my favorites. If I hadn't grown up on Dragonball and Dragonball Z I'd probably hate all the cliches and power creep in it, but since they did it first, I can forgive them, and accept it for how outrageous it truly is. I kinda wish they were making a Dragonball Movie and not a Dragonball Z Movie, though. Mercenary Tao is awesome.

35. I can't really wrap my head around you crazy kids and your writing fics about real people. I mean, Stephen on the show is obviously a character he plays, but John is more or less the same on and off the show.

37. Although I can't say I'm familiar with the fandom, I am with the sort of problem this is, and there are a few more factors that could be part of it outside of your own personal taste. The first artist might just have been there longer, know more people, or has just gotten involved more to get him/herself a dedicated fanbase (read: flunkies). You can share with your friends about the other person, but other than that, getting popular is up to the artist.

45. If you're intimidated by Concept Art, you've got a fairly good reason to be. People there treat art like serious business, because in that case, it really IS serious business. It's a place for serious artists who want to make a living doing what they do, as opposed to just drawing fanart on the side, which is what I'm assuming is what you want to do (I'm also assuming you use DeviantArt and/or SheezyArt, but that's beside the point). It's good you want to improve, though; I know plenty of fanartists who see themselves as the height of quality. Although you definitely shouldn't post fanart on Concept Art, you could try asking for critique in the description of the art (again, assuming you're on dA or SA). But if you do this, you have to make sure you LISTEN to people, even if they seem to be mean, although you can ignore things like 'stop drawing fanart'.

More than that, though, just keep drawing. I just doodle crap to make my friends laugh, and even I can admit to myself I've improved in the past year or so. Work on your anatomy, color palletes, faces, anything you think you have trouble with.

The Conceptart forum does seem like a daunting place, but if you really want to post art, why not try the Sketchbooks (http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=f5dccca053e8e3ed5d330be276f23a83&f=41) section first? You'll be surprised at how many people just starting out in art are posting their work there every day and get positive comments and critique too! There's also a Mentoring (http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=f5dccca053e8e3ed5d330be276f23a83&f=137) section now too, where you can look for a mentor to guide you and help you improve with your work. That's what you're looking for, right?

My personal experience with posting at the forum: I've only posted a few times. The first time, the art I showed clearly had Japanese-anime-manga influences but it didn't discourage people from replying to my post. I remember the comments being very positive and encouraging. However, the art was definitely not fan art and original concepts, which is what they want in the first place.

Some anime-style original art that was posted before have received lots of replies. The forum has had artists from Korea, Japan and China posting, and yeah, some of their stuff was fawned over like crazy. I'll have to add that the posts that got the most comments displayed female characters with, uhm, gigantic boobs, so I'll let ya wonder about that. *lol*

Here's the thing though; it seems only certain anime-influenced styles are received positively there. If your style goes something along the lines of Snapesnogger's (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62767&highlight=Snapesnogger) ... yeah, I wouldn't count on a lot of good responses. (In fact, if you follow the link, you'll see exactly why she's made it even more difficult for artists with obvious anime styles to post at Conceptart forums now. :P)

I know better than to post a chibi naga or a super anime/cartoon stylized piece of crap on conceptart :D;; (How are people even suppose to critique those types of things anyway?)

My problem is that I have a lot of fanart that I want help on. (with characters in action poses to practice perspective/foreshortening, and a few fanarts that were used as color studies) but it'd be like suicide to post fanart on conceptart D: If I had more life drawings, or even some original art, then it wouldn't be so embarassed about my art. I'm just so ashamed of my fanart.
