38. HOLY SHIT YESYESYES

9. Anti-yaoi communities often go beyond just anti-yaoi fangirls and cross over into homophobic. When JK Rowling outed Dumbledore, there were one or two posts and a bunch of comments crying about what would happen to the "poor chill'uns??" IIRC, they also equated any question of why it didn't happen in the books to wanting explicit gay sex written into the books, because, as we all know, being gay is all about sex while being straight is fluffy kittens and sunshine and holding hands and nothing more.

13. Mac/PC is so cute.

18. Well, I can't speak for Ryan/Gabriella because I think Ryan is totally, fabulously gay, but if the issue is that it's HSM, quite a few people know I love it (and that I'm all about the Chad/Ryan, which isn't canon either, although "I Don't Dance" is suuuuch a blessing). I think you'd be surprised at the number of people who love the movie and would either agree or could really care less about the fact that you like Ryanella. :)

22. I haven't read This Side of Paradise (that's where Amory Blaine is from, right?) but a couple of months ago I did wonder about Gatsby/Nick.

33. I think it's really cool that although you didn't intend it that way, you're fine (and pleased) with slash fans interpreting their relationship in another way. Kudos. ♥

35. I agree that Harry/Ginny didn't get any real feeling on Harry's part until suddenly in HBP. But, wow. Go re-read the series, because, seriously, I knew Ron and Hermione would end up together since like book two. I completely respect anyone's shipping choices, Harry/Hermione included. But to say that JK Rowling was just "pandering" to "crazy" Ron fans? Makes you sound like the crazy one.

33. Thank you! I was afraid people would think I'm just doing it to get more fans.

3. I know how you feel. I've just accepted the fact that if my life was fiction, I'd be the one trying to destroy the world and such. All my friends agree.

30. OMG, it's the technicolour dream coat! Sorry, every time there is mention of him I start joking about that coat.

39. The second season is gay? The first season had strap-ons, diamond encrusted codpieces, "blowjobs"/nosebleeds, banana stickers, hand holding, surprising people in costume, charity work for wayward kitties, hot tubbing, one guy getting choked up at the thought of another one dying, dramatic declaration of having always hated someone, hugging, and a male clown in spandex cut low enough to show his asscrack. The fashion episode was especially gay, but other than that, I think the second season's been pretty par for the course.

44. I love Peach, especially from the comics. <3

47. Mystery Men rocks. I was always touched by how genuinely nice The Shoveler was.

And 7!

[identity profile] rinnia.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
7. That's the first gay pairing I can remember encountering online. I wasn't into it, but I was struck by how likely it seemed. At that point, I think doujinshi like that would've scarred me as well. Man, that's a long time ago. I never would've guessed then that a year later I'd be seeking out yaoi for a different fandom online.

Using a Peach userpic because I had to use the Metalocalypse one for my other comment.

38; I agree with your views, good sir, and would gladly subscribe to your newsletter. Oh, so gladly. ♥♥♥
47; WHAT MOVIE IS THAT FROM? I was trying to remember what it was just two or three nights ago and I couldn't remember a THING about it. That picture's just reminded me.

24 - I can guarantee you that you're not the only one who had that cross their mind. Hell, I was wondering that too from my first readthrough years upon years ago. It says in one of the books that they're not (one of the ones where Nita's freaking out about her and Kit in the future, I don't remember specifically), but it's still a pairing that could definitely make sense to me. And whether they are or not, their banter is still highly, highly amusing.

35 - ...You sound like my ex-roommate and that's... not exactly a compliment. I didn't dislike Harmonians until she started trying to stuff it down my throat - and then all the reasons they aren't perfect for each other come into view. The biggest and most important to me is, they aren't equals and they don't treat each other as such. One is always, always above the other. They're wonderful, amazing, great for each other friends, but they just don't have the dynamic, especially from Harry's end, to make it as a couple.

I blame this partially on the movies. They got rid of quite a few of the key scenes for Ron (and a few for Hermione), meaning some things that happened had to be switched around and assigned to other characters. Case in point, in Philosopher's Stone: in the book, they fall into the Devil's Snare, Hermione jumps away before she gets caught and panics. She gets better at it, but at that point in time she isn't able to cope very well with short-term thinking in the face of danger. Ron yells "Are you a witch or aren't you?!" and she remembers what she can do, produces flame, and burns the plants back to free the boys. Later, after the chess match, she gets her time to shine as her logic and reason is brought up in the potions puzzle Snape leaves. Ron couldn't have done that. But he got the "chess scene" and the potions would make a really boring movie segment, so their reactions to the plant got entirely reversed and therefore part of their character in the view of the public. Obviously, the kids grow up and their weaknesses get levied somewhat by experience and knowledge, until in DH Hermione's doing quite a fair bit of the short-term thinking (though still mostly the result of her long-range planning, interestingly). But the movies still change both Hermione and Ron, especially Ron, to something they weren't quite in the books. They make movie!Hermione more accessible to shipping with Harry because they also take away a lot of the things that show that Harry just does not have as much fun with her as with Ron - such as in GoF when he thinks about how having Hermione as a best friend is a lot more boring.

Whatever floats your boat and all, but I was seeing the R/Hr hints from PoA, and I didn't "ship" them until OotP. They're there. If you don't like it, that's fine, but it sure makes sense to me.

47 - You just made my day a little brighter ♥

3. I was thinking about that the other day and it pained me to realize that if there ever was a book about me I'd probably be considered the female version of Holden Caufield, a self-righteous, conceited pretentious asshole.
12. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Regardless what popular culture tells you, guys are not always ready to go.
35. There was a lot of hints, big ones, it's one thing to say you just didn't see it, another is to deny it completely.
As for H/G, I completely agree, it was all so contrived and pretty painful to read.

... Sorry for the harsh tone, that wasn't really fair. But the point stands - isn't it more fun to play the game first? >:?

Though I'm much more worried about the original cast right now than anything the new chaps have to offer, so maybe I don't really have a say. :O
