Headcanons/Ideas/Pairings you have nothing against…but wouldn't want to be canon

So yesterday's Sharon Carter secret got me thinking: I have nothing against Sharon, she seems like a nice person, and I don't have anything against people shipping her with Steve. But at the same time, I really don't want Sharon/Steve to be canon because of how it alters my perception of the characters.

Similarly, I remember in Avatar: The Last Airbender, some people had headcanons that Iroh was Zuko's real father and that's why Ozai hated him so much. And while I think the idea could be cool to explore in fanfic, I REALLY REALLY wouldn't want it to be canon because it feels almost like an excuse for Ozai to be shitty to Zuko; instead of facing the reality that some parents are just abusive assholes.

So what are yours? Just any idea or twist or pairing that you don't mind (or even might enjoy in fanfic) but would HATE to see become canon?

Sherlock/Joan from Elementary. It's absolutely great in fic but I am loving their platonic relationship in canon. The writers have said they intend to keep it that way and I hope they do.

Brienne/Jaime in GOT. I kind of ship it but I don't canon ship it because I think Brienne deserves better.

A lot of popular fandom ships I have nothing against but don't want in canon. But I rarely like romances in canon, they often ruin the relationship in the process due to writing it horribly.

I think most people hate/hated the idea of Ozai not being Zuko's father for your above reasons. Sometimes parents are just shitty; there's no "real" father/mother to make it all better. I mean, when The Search came out and Ursa's letter implied that as much... well, to quote the immortal words of Alec Guiness:

Okay, so, canon is already set and there isn't much actual canon personality for this character.

But anyway, one of my favorite fanfic authors has a very different headcanon personality for Celebrimbor. She headcanons him as being similar to Feanor in a lot of ways and kind of arrogant. Whereas I headcanon him as being really unsure of himself and wanting to escape his family legacy as much as possible and yet at the same time feeling like he can't life up to the greatness of Feanor. Which is why I think he was taken in by Sauron without actually turning evil. He wanted so badly to do great things and to protect his people and when he's given this offer by a Maia, he's kind of amazed that a Maia would be interested in his work and totally on board for getting all the help he can.

Yes, I have a very big headcanon for a character who barely has any canon personality. Don't care, I love him.

Anyway, she makes it work in her fic, but I still like my headcanon for him better.

Hmmm.

Well, I headcanon that Sirius was in love with James. And that maybe they experimented a bit in school. Probably mostly fantasy, but I don't think it is contradicted by canon.

That Firefly and The Hunger Games are in the same universe, though I'm torn on whether Firefly was a result of the Games or if Panem is all that's left of Earth That Was.

Always complete fantasy. I only make head-canons, when I think that the actual canon is complete bullshit and I'm going to ignore it ever happening (I reject your reality and substitute it with my own).

I've been trying to create an elaborate headcanon that connects all of Karl Urban's movie characters.

So far, it starts with Bournce Supremecy/RED. Then on to John Grimm (Doom) then Star Trek. Then Almost Human (TV show, I know). Then Dredd. Then Chronicles of Riddick.

The Liv Tyler secret was making me think about how some people look a lot like their parents or their kids, but one looks better than the other.

Steven Tyler is just plain weird-looking and ugly IMO, but Liv is quite pretty. And yet I can see a resemblance between them.

(And though there is no actual family relationship, she also got an ugly dad in Lord of the Rings. I don't think she and Hugo Weaving look anything alike, though. Despite the books saying Arwen looked like the female version of Elrond).

Occasionally, I've seen celebrities' kids basically called ugly in the news (when they're usually fairly normal looking, just not gorgeous) because people expect them to look like their parents. Rumer Willis comes to mind.

Today I found out that someone had made a fan soundtrack for the classic (yet aggressively inaccessible) 1988 RPG Wasteland, and it got included in the updated version of the game.

That's kind of cool!

By that same token, here's the soundtrack for Fallout 1 and 2 (they share a lot of tracks, so the two often get mixed together.)

Stupid Thoughts You Always Have

Whenever I hear a loud, deep rumbling noise outside my house (usually an 18 wheeler or something exploding), my first thought is "Oh god, today is the day. The alien tripods have come." Apparently, World of Wars made a big impact on my brain.

Also, whenever I look at an empty field (which in Oklahoma are numerous) I always think there will be a zombie shambling through. And then I have a brief moment where I think, "If I see a zombie, I'm gonna have to deal with that. I'm not ready to kill a zombie."

What are some weird thoughts that you are struck with every now and again?

Help me pick a martial art/fighting style to get into?

I'll probably ask this question again on an afternoon in the weekend when more people will be around, but in the interest of trying to keep conversations around here going for longer periods of time...

As far as strengths go, I'm very small, flexible, and very agile. I have fairly decent aim when it comes to punches and kicks, but not excellent or anything. I am, unfortunately, rather weak and slow (working to improve in physical strength and speed, but it's not something I'm counting on). I've got a bit of experience with kung fu and taekwondo, but I do want to expand (i.e. focus on a martial art that might fit my body type/capabilities better, and not just eastern styles - krav maga sounds fun...)

I've also gotten into a lot of fights as a kid and young teenager, and based on comments from some tae kwon do teachers, that "shows" in my fighting style. Still not sure what that means, but apparently experience helped me a lot in taekwondo - as early as a yellow belt (two grades after white in this system), I was going up against red and black belts in sparring sessions. (I got up to about a two-thirds of the way through their belt progression before I had to leave tae kwon do behind).

My biggest priority with a martial art would be self defense and being able to takedown or incapacitate an opponent (or even multiple opponents - I spend a lot of time in unsafe environments), but it's also not my only priority.

I am researching and comparing on my own, but I thought I'd hear from you guys. What are some martial arts, fighting styles, and self-defense systems you guys have had luck with? What do you think might fit someone like me?
