After giving my money to Kickstarters of internet creators who turned out to be dickheads, I'm reluctant to trust internet creators at all. And specially to giving them my money or support.
Ugly paint secret is ugly.

Also, while Hussie didn't want to go into specifics, they had disagreements with the studio that was making the game, so they had to make their own game development studio and start over from scratch. They're going pretty fast, all things considered.

Doug has done some behind the scenes dick stuff, but its more in letting a dick run things and being a dick to others that is the issue.

I always loathed NC's style to begin with. It's just rude to bend the facts of a movie to your liking so it's easier to make fun of. Can't call yourself a "reviewer" while doing that.

I wish he 'd stick with things he can do. It doesn't have to be his nostalgia, but it's awkward when he talks about things he doesn't care about or get, especially when he brings up that he doesn't know about/is not into whatever the topic is.

I don't give money to Kickstarters as a rule. I've seen enough people get screwed by them that I don't trust them. This goes for pretty much any sort of internet funding, crowd or otherwise.

Well, I don't know anything about the NC one, but the Homestuck one's been pretty legit? Imean, game's takign a long time but there's clear progress and all the other rewards came in. I trust the game will be made.

I've had really good luck with kickstarters, or maybe just good judgement? The people I've invested in have had a history of not flaking/delivering on rewards.

I have not ever had any problems with kickstarter. Granted I don't donate to a lot of things because I don't have the money, but everything I've donated to I got what I ordered and the project finished, even if it took a while.

I think you just need to be picky about what you fund and I think most people don't realize some of these projects are going to take A LONG TIME. Making a game, movie, show, whatever tends to take time. Heck even sending just the rewards is really time consuming, if you have a lot of backers that means a lot of time getting together packages and shipping, and a lot of people putting together these kickstarters are not a pro shipping company like Amazon so they have to do all these things themselves. It takes time.

I honestly don't really understand this, since god knows I've given money to PLENTY of assholes, mainstream or otherwise. (I mean, I went and saw Twilight IV: Spawn of Twilight Part One IN THE THEATRE. Ditto Birdemic! I HAVE NO SHAME.)

I mean, I wouldn't want to give my money to say, Roman Polanski or something, but there's a level of dickery that I take as endemic to the human race.

Yeah I don't get why creators need to be beacons of perfection in order for other people to support them. Assholes can make a good product and they can do their job well, if you're not actually working with them directly it shouldn't matter what they're like on a personal level.

And ditto on the second sentiment, I don't like supporting people that I know have done real harm, but there's a difference between like Roman Polanski and someone who made a joke that was in poor taste and then apologized for it.

Well, I donated to the Unsounded Book 2 kickstarter and everything came out great. But Ashley Cope is good people. I think it depends on what level your favorite internet creators are on.

I also donated to the Homestuck KS and was pretty disappointed. I sold my poster, may or may not play the demo. I'll stick with small-time comic creators from now on.

donating to things like book reprints/prints and other tangible things you can get right away seems to be the way to go with kickstarter, rather than donating to promises

Why is Hussie a dickhead? I'm really curious why you think this OP. I mean I've seen backlash for stuff but he always seems apologetic when anything happens.

And regardless of how you feel the money to the kickstarter is still going to exactly what it's supposed to be going to, the game is being made. I'm excited for the game to come out.
