While Zachary Quinto just came across as too dickish to be a truly good Spock, Chris Pine was just badly cast. Nothing about him reminded me of the original Kirk at all.
Like comment above said, nuTrek is just Star Trek fanfic written by Michael Bay.

They got the wrong Chris as Kirk. Of course the other one had a contract for some sort of technosword and sorcery movie series. I forget what that role was.

That said, I don't blame the actors for this weird take on Trek. I blame the producers and writers.

Chris Hemsworth did more in his couple of minutes as George Kirk in Trek2009 than Chris Pine has done in two entire movies.

The worst casting of those movies has to go to Resting Bitch Face as Uhura. Not a single iota of Nichelle's wit, warmth or charisma in her entire body, and certainly none in her performance. I like to think there must be two Nyota Uhuras in Starfleet, and Spock put the wrong one on his class rota just because he wanted to hit that (once every seven years). Best thing Pegg's soft-reboot could do was redshirt the one we've got and bring on real Uhura with a better actress to fill the bridge.

I agree. Zoe Saldana made such an awful Uhura. She was like Uhura with all the warmth, sweetness, and charisma drained out of her soul. She was just the personality-less action chick.

I remember ConfusedMatthew called her "generic as fuck" and while I wouldn't go that far it really bothers me that, personality-wise, she's nothing like Nichelle's Uhura.

But then that's true of a lot of the other characters. Makes you wonder why they bothered to do a reboot in the first place.

Even though she's might be a bit too young for the role (although she's 32 to Saldana's 36), I can't help but imagine Lupita Nyong'o as Uhura.

She just exudes warmth, fun, and reminds me so much of Nichelle. I'd really love it if she could play Uhura.

I don't even think the age thing is that big a deal. She's only a year younger than Alice Eve.

Plus she looks more like Nichelle to me so that helps.

I disagree but it's a pretty subjective thing so...eh...no biggie.

Body type wise, though, I think Lupita's a lot more like Nichelle.

Saldana's comparatively too slim, IMO.

Also, it's more that I think Lupita exudes the same type of warmth that Nichelle did. It's how they carry themselves which I don't think Saldana matches.

But whatever...my opinion doesn't count for shit anyway since I'm not doing the casting.

I actually like the new Storm (she looks a lot like Halle).

But I do think she'd make a better Uhura.

Then again, I don't think Saldana had anything great in terms of writing to work with so I can't blame her for that.

Not a Lupita stan, but come on - replacing Halle Berry as Storm is hardly a new idea. Halle makes a pretty Storm, but that's it. Lupita would HAVE to be an improvement.

Personally, I always wanted Angela Bassett for the role.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which featured Nichelle as Uhura, was released in December of 1991.

Some people don't like Saldana's Uhura. Get over it.

In that movie she used a dictionary to put together some klingon words because the director thought it was funny, no matter the actress saying that the scene made her character ooc and look incompetent as a communication officer.

I'm sure some star trek fans think Zoe's Uhura speaking perfect klingon in the new movies is insulting to her character and not canon. SMDH, some of you and your preaching about the absolute perfection that was the original series remind me the followers of a religious cult.
