[Captain America: Civil War]

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The Captain America films would be more boring than they already are without other Avengers making it interesting.

I'm just annoyed that they keep throwing Natasha into every Marvel film as if it's a decent tradeoff for not getting her own film.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like that cardboard cutout could carry her own film.

Pretty sure they just confirmed Mark Ruffalo joining as well.

Am I the only one getting the vibe of this being a 'fix-it movie' for AoU?

I would be pretty okay if it was.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Mark Ruffalo didn't join the cast. He just posted a link to the Cap: CW production announcement from last week on tumblr and facebook, welcomed the new additions to the cast and said he's looking forward to seeing it. However he isn't in the cast.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Considering what Civil War is in the comics, I sure as he'll hope it's not a fix it for AoU. That would be so far off the mark it'd just as well be on another planet.
But there hasn't been nearly enough buildup to do the Civil War thing properly, so...

I am 79.4% sure that other than Cap, Iron Man, Sam, Black Widow, and Bucky; all the others will be cameos/short scenes. Like, Hawkeye is going to help Black Widow secure a car to get from NYC to LA and then go back home.

I am a bit wary of Iron Man being there because Marvel seems to enjoy letting him overpower everyone else in the movie (in regards to screen time) but I trust the Russo Brothers.

edit: Also, I really don't want the focus away from Steve. But, this is going to be a fight between two heroes. There is going to have to be an ensemble to support this. And frankly, I would find it weird if other heroes didn't show up to put in their two cents about the conflict. At least Thor has an excuse by being in another realm.

To be fair, anything from Marvel that's called Civil War is bound to have Iron Man in it and anyone who's surprised by that should go read some comics...

Also, I think that AoU did some nice set up regarding Tony and his best intentions paving the road to hell which fit in perfectly with that storyline...

Eh, if get to see Wanda, Vision, and Natasha again, I'm good.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I am so happy about it. Thor 2 and Cap 2 were so weird because I kept thinking "where are the other Avengers? do they just not give a shit that this stuff is happening? am I supposed to believe that they have better things to do than deal with any of this seriously important stuff going on?" Like, seriously, SHIELD collapses and Tony Stark ... what, went on a vacation?

Once you had an Avengers movie, it became all but nonsensical to make single movies because there is no good reason why these guys would suddenly stop helping each other. I'm glad that Cap 3 will hopefully avoid that.

For what it's worth, I too have my doubts about so many characters being packed in. The Captain America part of the MCU is my favorite, and I was not happy that a bunch of other characters were being shoehorned in.

I'm hoping for the best though, and that the focus will be on the Captain America comics family characters like Steve, Bucky, Natasha, Sharon, and Sam.

Plus, Marvel movies have been consistently at least entertaining, and I'm looking forward to the ones still to come, including Civil War. I'm not looking forward to the bloodbath in the fandom.

I'm not sure how close the film is going to follow the comics storyline, but considering this is Civil War it's not surprising that Marvel is shoving everyone and their mother into this movie. That said, if they wanted to do Civil War I wish they would've done it separately; Marvel could've given us a Cap 3 (focused on Steve and Bucky and Nat and Sam) then progressed with Civil War. I don't have much hope for this film not being hogged by Tony, or each character getting so little screentime that the appearances feel meaningless.

Idk, but the Cap films are my favorite (Well, along with the Thor ones; I have a hard time choosing) and I want the focus to remain on Steve. A tighter storyline/cast is more appealing to me than one with 86 characters and little character development.

The Avengers movies are way more entertaining than the solo movies anyway. Ensembles are always more entertaining to watch than 'main charactacter' things. Trust me, I'm a scientist.

Sometimes I think that's it's a shame I drifted out of MCU fandom and I should catch up on the Phase II movies and see AOU.

Then I think, why bother? I can just see it later when everyone's hurr durr has blown over.

Fans upon seeing previous Marvel films: Where were all the rest of the Avengers when this was happening?!

Fans upon seeing the cast for Civil War: Why are all the Avengers in this one?!

I couldn't agree with you more, OP.

I feel like this might actually be storyline dictated.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Once they decided to go with the Civil War thing, they kind of had to involve a lot of people from MCU in order to get the right scale. If it was just CA:TWS characters + Tony, I'm not sure you could really illustrate the stakes they seem to want to. That said, I wish they had picked a different storyline.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I see where you're coming from but at the same time it makes sense to have the characters mix together for certain situations. If this wasn't Civil War, then I'd probably agree with you.

When the stakes get too high and no Avengers are around it's like what was the purpose of starting the group then?

It's like Iron Man 3 when the Mandarin was broadcasting threats and the president was about to be assassinated and yet only Tony and Rhodey were doing something about it. Not to mention Tony threatening a terrorist and getting his home blown up.

Text: I am abso-fucking-lutely furious at this lineup

call the movie "Avengers" and be done!! cant' Cap have a fucking movie of his own without everybody else shoving their nose in???

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
But it's the logical development you'd expect to come after the end of AoU. At the end of Avengers, everyone went off their separate ways so you can understand why in their solo movies they're all in different places, but Cap at least has accepted his responsibility to be the leader of the Avengers at the end of AoU. So in his solo film he's just... gonna go off and do his own thing? That might make sense as an immediate followup to Winter Soldier, but not now. Plus, it's Civil War. When they announced it, I was worried we wouldn't have enough characters to pull off the storyline.

Also, I've been reading a lot of headcanons for what people would like to see in Cap 3, and honestly they just sound like fanfiction to me. Sounds to me like you just want your fanfiction to happen, and I like fanfic but no thanks.

OP, the problem with your complaint is, Civil War IS an Avengers storyline. (And X-men, and freakin' everyone else in Marvel). Everyone else HAS to be in it for the story to work. What Marvel should've done was make Civil War the third Avengers movie and held off on Infinity War until Phase 4.

Well, the whole point of the Civil War arc is that everyone's included in it basically in one way or the other. I'm mad that Spider-Man isn't in it, since he was one of the most important characters of it. I'm just waiting for the amazing shit storm when Captain America dies. Oh and Iron Man being a total dickweed. I love Civil War <3
