I know he's ~super problematic~ or whatever, but I'm absolutely disgusted by some of the things people were sending him on twitter in the guise of of ~calling him out~
And yes, I know that's not why he says he left twitter, but I still think it was gross.

Honestly, at this point I'm starting to feel sorry for him out of pity.
Secret includes one of the tweets sent to him, which says "@josswhedon turn on your location so I can beat your ugly ass!" Obviously this one isn't wishing death, but it's just one of them that I saw. -OP

I keep wondering how many of those comments came from his anti-SJ haters who just joined in when they saw he was being attacked. He's got plenty of people who don't like him on both sides, some who know how to explain why and some who just send death threats and think they're doing something worthwhile for reasons I will never understand.

I like Whedon. He's not perfect, but he's surprisingly cool for a horror guy.

I so tired of "internet" death threats. I can't wait until someone invents an app that shows exactly the location of people who post death threats and it is considered a crime. Just like sending actual pen and paper death threats.

Then finally this garbage will die down. Because 99% of these "death threats" are just from internet brats who think the only way to be heard is to tell someone to "go kill yourself." What a bunch of fucking losers.

I think the hate for Joss is just getting over the top at this point, yes he has his problems as a writer but he's done some good too.

And the whole reaction to the twitter fiasco was stupid, for one Joss always flounces here and there. He's been involved in fandom for forever and he always comes around online at random times and then leaves for months again. He was only on twitter for promotion purposes so if he wants to spend time writing it makes sense to get rid of the distraction.

And people who say he never addresses his issues actually need to start reading more interviews with him, because he will address things when asked and he's actually very self aware and self deprecating. You may not get the answer you WANT from him but you will get an answer.

Like no celeb is going to spend all day responding to fans on twitter, for good or bad that's just not possible. Joss knows what fandom is like, the critiques he was getting was not anything new.

The over the top hate though and threats, that just needs to stop all around. I am tired of fandom turning into a mob over everything.

Honestly most of the backlash towards Natasha I find kinda hypocritical and stupid.
It all just seems to be: "Oh my gawd!!! how dare Natasha be sad about being forcibly steralized at a young age and forced to kill people and and try to grow as a character!!! Don't you know all female characters must always forever be stoic and tough and never show any emotion?!?? also Natasha shouldn't relay on a man and shoudont hook up with anyone ever!! unless it's with Bucky/Clint/Steve. Then it's suddenly okay for some reason!"

Like lol I guess Natasha is never allowed to have an off day. She should always be invincible and nothing should ever be out of her reach. She is allowed to constantly help others in her team, who are allowed to be human and fallible, but should never need their help, strong women aren’t fallible or human. And if, on the off chance, any of these happens, it completely erases everything she is, was, and has ever been or accomplished. Her previous development and achievements vanish completely. She becomes nothing but a damsel in distress. Her characterization has been killed. Let us all mourn forever.

Death threats just seem to be how the Internet tells you it noticed you. I remember death threats to the Counterstrike devs because they changed how fast some of the weapons fire. Now when they threaten to kill your children, that's when you call the cops.
