... okay.

I kind of get what you mean. I love Steve Rogers (in the movies, never read the comics), but don't really care for Chris Evans himself.

It's not really about his intelligence though (although I sort of agree on that point as well), but more like his... personality in general? Ngl, I find it kind of off-putting. He seems very fake and over the top in interviews and public appearances (the way he reacts to other people, the way he laughs, etc). I've heard it's a side effect of the anxiety meds he takes, but I don't know enough about him to know if that's true.

1) He's an actor. For 99% of celebs what you see if a front for interviews and public appearances 2) He does have anxiety so he is likely uncomfortable

Tbf, Chris Evans is kind of a shitty person in general. And I say this as a shameless fangirl.

He's a walking definition of mediocre, only he spent his formative years being told by his overbearing stage mother he was talented because he could yell his lines, and therefore, be understood. Add to that connections and being a white male, and he's been thrown acting roles and even directorial jobs that he's really not skilled enough for. Then you've got the weird, possessive way his hometown protects his playboy ways and Mommy Evans still directing his life...so he's got to maintain, to a point, that Adorable Dudebro image if he wants the fame/women/et all, only he's not actually that bright. Cue the stupid shit he's been saying for years. But, again, white male + connections + an intelligent stage mother = no real downfall. Ever.

Well, he's not paid to look intelligent. He's paid to look good and play his roles.

I completely forgot he was in Snowpiercer unless he was on the screen tbh.

Really? i mean...he was on screen all the time so you must have a really short memory. Are you a goldfish?

To be fair, his character is the grim, stoic guy hanging with a bunch of rather wacky, colorful characters (the villains even more so) so that's a given. I trashed his performance in my initial review of Snowpiercer way back in 2012 (his Big Scene at the end just didn't have the gravitas it needed, he couldn't bring it) but I've come to appreciate it more since. It's... fine. Evans is... fine. Perfectly adequate action star.

I thought I was the only one, lol. I find him dull and bland looking, and my impression is he's not very bright (granted, I have never bothered to watch his interviews or anything, because, dull as dirt, so I admit I could be wrong about this)

I love Chris Evans but...I kind of see where you're coming from OP.

He's very "frat boy" in his demeanor which, I'll admit, IS a little off-putting because it seems like he'll never grow up.

I know that his mother said of all his roles, the one that matched him most in personality was Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four, so there is that.

I like him as Steve as well, and I do tend to find him way, WAY more attractive as Steve because Steve has a much more serious, stoic demeanor.

That being said, I do think he's rather underrated as an actor. People tend to dismiss him as a pretty face but I think he IS good at projecting a lot of the qualities that he himself doesn't possess.

I..don't like some of his other stuff cause it's not my genre. But I really don't see how he somehow would look less intelligent than your average male moviestar?

When I first saw that picture I thought I was looking at Generic Male Model #3439A. Then I looked twice.

So...agree. He's hot, but bland.

I've liked him in other roles too but Cap is certainly my fave, MCU Steve doesn't come off as particularly dumb to me though, but I don't really see Evans-as-Steve when I watch the films. I just see Steve.

I legit do not care about his personal life (as long as he hasn't done anything too awful). As long as he puts up a good front, continues being hilarious in interviews, and continues acting in movies that I care about, that's all I ask for.

However, he looks a lot better either as cap or with the beard. Not a huge fan of this pictures and others like it. XD

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, same. He's so hot as Cap, but in anything else he does nothing for me.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I.....have just realized. Just now. That Chris Evans looks a LOT like my cousin?

does that
uh
make my crush weird?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too, OP. Sometimes Cap seems dumb as a brick and I blame Evans. He was better in Winter Soldier though.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
His stylings have been awful except in Marvel movies up until recent years. Now that he's got that philosopher lumberjack thing going on, I don't even care what comes out of his mouth.

Well, if that's your opinion, then that's your opinion.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
But he doesn't strike me as dull or unintelligent and I like him in many of his roles. He was really funny in Not Another Teen Movie. The Perfect Score was pretty forgettable and I have no real opinion of anyone's performance in it. He was really good in Cellular. Fantastic Four was not very good, but he was actually okay in it (better than Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, and Michael Chiklis, none of whom seem hit the right balance between comedic and dramatic that the movie seemed to be going for). The Fantastic Four sequel was worse, nobody showed up well in that one. Push was not a very cohesive movie and the performances were mostly just there. He was good in The Losers. And he's good as Captain America.

huh. he does kind of have a frat boy face.

I don't get that impression with Cap, though...

Channing Tatum looks and sounds dumber. I'm dreading him as Gambit.

Never heard anything really good or bad about him either way, but he CAN act...

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I have a LOT of friends who say they find him attractive only as Steve Rogers :D

Hmm, I can't think of anything particularly wonderful or terrible I've heard about Chris Evans IRL. Honestly, unless I hear something extremely disturbing about a celebrity, (like evidence of inflicting assault or abuse or someone, and major racism/sexism w/ no apology) I don't really care much about their personal lives. Let's see, I think I've seen Evans in...Nanny Diaries and maybe one other film, and thought they were OK but forgettable. Love the job he's done as Captain America though.

Not about to say they should be lobbing an academy award at him, but I think his acting in the role of Steve Rogers/Capt. America is underrated. The same can be said for a lot of the other MCU cast. Especially given the often forgettable, generic nature of action films, or previous superhero movies. I'll be sad to see him go, if Avengers:Infinity Wars I is really going to be his last film as Captain America.
