Agreed.

I hated Inquisition, and yet stuff like this still makes me roll my eyes so hard.

Old-school gamers, particularly PC gamers, are the worst for this.

I still wish that the next Mass Effect was centered on The First Contact War. Haven't been following ME4 closely (do we even know anything other than 'set after ME3, is going to be more difficult?'), but after hearing it was set after ME3 I went, "Arrrrrg". I loved the games, but I wasn't satisfied with the conclusion of the series (yes, even after the extended endings; though ME3 wasn't a perfect game outside of that, it had lots of great moments too so I could mostly forgive the other faults).

Inquisition is a bit of a hot mess, but I still like it and think it has some charm. Hopefully BioWare will learn from Inquisition's reception and their next games will be better for it. (NGL, I'm excited for the future of Dragon Age. I expect big things story wise after some of the revelations in DAI.)

Now, I'm not sure I like DAI enough to replay eight times (I have that many playthroughs, I just doubt I'll ever finish them all), but I wish Origin wasn't such a fucking dick so I could play the DLC soonish.

As for your opinion about "their best games being behind them", you hear that a lot in this fandom, lol. I don't fault you for feeling it, but right now I feel like it could go either way.

Inquisition's reception? You mean game of the year?

Fair point, but a large chunk of their fanbase had an entirely different reaction than the gaming sites. (And I would assume they want to keep those people happy, as they spend a lot of money on their products.)

Now I have a feeling a lot of the people who have issues with the game will still end up buying the next one because this fanbase has a hard time letting go, but I still think it would be in BioWare's best interest to tweak some things based on feedback. (Not everything, but, you know, some things.)

Will they do it or not? Who knows. Have to wait and see.

You aren't going to please everyone all the time unfortunately . There were a few things that needed work but honestly inquisition is my favorite bioware game hands down.

I hope future bioware games emulate inquisition.

You aren't going to please everyone all the time unfortunately.

You won't ever please everyone tbh, but I feel like people have valid complaints. Some of them go overboard with their hate or dissatisfaction, but I honestly don't think most people are bitching just because they can. (...I do feel like some would do that, but not because we're talking about BioWare here. Every fandom has those people.)

Was it the characters you liked so much? (I've said it before: This is one of my favorite BioWare casts.) Or the story? I thought the story was (mostly) good, but the main quest-line was so damn short it felt over in no time. The main quests were great, but there weren't enough other quests that I enjoyed playing to make up for them.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to lie that the characters are a big part of it but I loved the quest system. Open ended but I always felt like my actions were helping the world somehow. The main quest line was king of short but with all the side quests you end up massive over leveled so I don't feel the game lacked for content.

Really my chief complaint is the end sequence with coypheus. Or lack thereof.

I would love that too, or the Rachni War and/or Krogan Rebellion. <3

Yes!

Even though Mass Effect 4 is already locked in, I would be down with BioWare coming back and making these games later. (I doubt it will happen as I'm pretty sure they've explored them in other venues now, but maybe if they run out of ideas...)

We will forever be disappointed. (But come on, they would make great games!)

I know why people hated ME3, but what was the problem with Inquisition?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thin and disjointed plot, weak villain/waste of a once-good villain, meaningless choices, repetitive side quests, unsatisfying cameos for DAO/DA2 characters, clumsily snipped away loose ends, too much focus on empty quest zones and not enough focus on the characters.

Honestly, that still sounds better than ME3. (Then again, I played Two Worlds, so I have a certain tolerance for bullshit.)

I preferred ME3 to Inquisition.

What makes ME3 so much worse overall than ME2? The ending was awful, but honestly that's the only thing that really set it back imo. It was a very enjoyable game.

I was nervous about ME4 at first but I think they're smart in the direction they're taking with it - not trying to tie it in to Shepard's story, and making it more exploration-based. It's the right move and I'm cautiously optimistic right now.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
The ending is exactly what made it worse than ME2. Not just the shitty skittles choice at the very end, either; the entire ending seemed lackluster after you hit the beam. The game kind of came to a screaming halt so you could watch what amounted to a half-hour-long cutscene with a couple of quicktime events thrown in, and then it was over. It felt a little bit like the video game equivalent of someone getting sick of their WIP 100k words in, and just throwing their plot notes up as the last chapter.

haha, that's actually a pretty good description of the ending.

That said, it's kind of hard for me to say it ruined the entire game because it was very good up until that point; it wasn't a pervasive problem with characters/mechanics/storytelling/etc. that was noticeable through the entire game. I think it was more of a single major misstep than a sign of bad/declining quality in a company.

(Haven't played the DA games, so I can't speak for that.)

BioWare's best game was Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn *obligatory smug old schooler*

Origins was alright (and infinitely preferable to the half-developed mess that was DA II), though the seams showed a little because for the first time they were playing in a world of their own creation.

Well, I've never played those games, but after the strong start to SWTOR and then finding out that there'll be no more class storylines, well..yeah. Bioware dropped the ball.

I can't agree, since I think ME3 is the best Mass Effect game (yes, the ending has some MAJOR problems, but everything up to that was so damn good!) and Inquisition is also awesome.

Of course, I also love Dragon Age 2 =P
