4. Well, even if people don't comment, most times they are still reading the entries. It depends on what kind of entries you're making and if they have anything to say in response to them. And just because some people click with others and not with you doesn't make them unfriendly people. I can understand some of what you mean, but a person can't be close with everybody. Maybe the people you're going after have little in common with you besides fandom? Some people don't view their f-list as a way to make close friends. And maybe some of the people you see being bff all over the place know each other in RL or have known each other online for a long time? You seem to be painting people as shunning you almost on purpose when a lot of people don't take their lists as seriously as you seem to.

Part of the problem seems to be that you're looking for true friends from fandom when not everyone is. I think more and more that it should be called a 'watch list' so that people don't get the idea that everyone on their f-list has to be a do-or-die friend. yeah, tl;dr comment

I can still see where the op is coming from. no, it's not realistic to think that you will click with everyone but you do have to start wondering why you're clicking with NO ONE.

It's hard to sit on the sidelines and see everyone acting all bff and wondering what you've done wrong and why no one seems to even want to talk to you. I think you're being a bit unfair to the op by implying their being neurotic about it.

How can someone on the outside watch as people talk about what good friends they are in fandom and keep in mind that all of that may really mean nothing to them because they don't view online friendships seriously. No one knows how others perceive friendships online and yet all we have to go on is how WE feel.

You've just completely told the op that she's wrong for feeling the way she does and that it's her fault for not being able to connect with anyone.

Orson Scott Card is draining my bank account with all the goddamn sequels but I think it's oh so worth it. I try to opt for fandom outside of livejournal as they tend to be the older fans who have probably read the book before I was born.

It probably doesn't help that I am too nervous to participate in comms. Ever since I started reading F!S it kind of scared me away from a lot of things- but that's my fault. I don't participate in anything off LJ, though.
But I think what I am going to do is keep trying. And...if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, I should move on and make other friends. :)

I'm a bit scared to reveal myself...but already I am meeting such nice people. I might just do that. :)

Oh there's somewhat of a fandom alright XDDD I was looking for fics on fanfiction.net about Ender's adopted children from Lusitania, and there was plenty enough fic about it, but I don't think people discuss it as much anymore, I guess it all depends. I think it'd be an excellent book for a literature class that would be on science fiction <3 I liked all the sequels alot better than the original actually XDDD especially Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide. I still need to read the Shadow series XD

IAWTS so fucking much, HP fandom should chill, what's with the canon obsession? I ship Neville/Luna, I love that pairing, it isn't canon, and I don't care.

Actually I feel kind of relieved J.K didn't mess with them, what with the way she writes romance, killing characters' personalities, Hermione and Ron suffered from that on HBP, my poor babies. :(

4. I don't know. I try to respond to my friends posts as much as I can, and I'm always scared that I'm making someone feel ignored. But sometimes the things people write just kind of... I don't know, they just don't interest me? =X Maybe your comments are too generic and you should try to be a little more personal in them?

12. HOLY SHIT ENDER'S GAME SECRET! I've never read Twilight (no time!) but Ender's Game is the most amazing book ever. I can't say that I really like Peter, but I haven't had time to get through all the books yet.

I don't want a huge fandom for it, and I'll probably ignore any fandom that does exist. The books are so amazing by themselves, I don't want to read fanfic that doesn't get them perfectly right. =/

I always interject something personal into my comments to them- especially if I have shared a similar experience. But I will just...keep trying. I think I will just have to accept that not everything can work out as I would like. :)

42. Sucks for you, I guess. But I don't think people should have to "contribute" to fandom to be in the fandom. Sometimes their energies are devoted elsewhere, but that doesn't mean they don't like the series/movie/book/whatever. (And uh, I count icons as "contributing.") I'd also agree with a poster before me and say that a contest might inspire some action.
