And is the reason for their popularity something that would normally get you to ship them or is that the reason you don't like them?

Beaten to the punch nonny.

Puppyshipping (Jounouchi Katsuya and Seto Kaiba) from Yugioh. I mean, yes all that aggression and animosity between the two could be read as sexual tension, but that's not something I'm into.

(the same goes for all the other ships where the main selling point is that they appear to loathe each other, that was just first that came to mind)

Shizaya.

I get why it's popular, but I can't stand it. Shizuo's been through enough shit as it is, putting him in a relationship with Izaya would put him through the ringer and that's just not my jam.

Shinra/Celty
Because Shinra is a fucking creep who got off on experimenting on Celty and the whole thing was played for laughs. Fuck that shit.

Agreed on both. Particularly Shinra/Celty; the bit where he outright lied to her so she wouldn't leave creeped me out too much.

Steve/Natasha. I totally get shipping them. Not sure if they are actually popular. But they are totally a ship I would normally ship because I love friendship romances. But I don't ship them for reasons I haven't entirely figured out yet.

Peter/Gamora. I totally get shipping them, but I found them kind of boring in the movie and ended up shipping other things.

Doctor/Rose. Totally get shipping them since they were canon and all, but totally not my cup of tea at all.

Doctor/Clara. Totally get any Doctor/companion ship, I just don't really like it.

Celebrimbor/Narvi. Totally get shipping them (unlike Celebrimbor/Maeglin whose popularity I don't get at all) and even vaguely like the idea of them. But I'm totally and completely hooked on Celebrimbor/Annatar, and I prefer that pairing with Annatar being Tyelpe's first romantic experience other than that random, unrequited crush on Galadriel.

Dany/Jon Snow. I totally get why people would ship for the symbolism, I'm just not a fan of the idea. I don't want Dany to end up with anyone. She's awesome on her own.

Jaime/Brienne. Totally get it just don't like it. I'm pretty sure they will end up officially together in canon, but I still don't like.

In regards to this, I wonder if you're like me and see Natasha as wanting Steve's approval. For me, that's a HUGE roadblock in shipping them because it creates this power imbalance that I just really don't like. Beyond seeing them as siblings.

On Celebrimbor/Narvi, I find that a bit amusing because RP has made me fond of a different dwarf with him - namely Durin III.

But I do agree on the implied crush on Galadriel, but I have developed a bit of an aversion to her in general.

I think if I'd been born earlier I might ship Kirk/Spock, but watching TOS re-runs was such a big part of my early childhood that now those characters are like my extended family and I donot want to know about their sex lives.

I get Kirk/Spock, but I just don't ship them. There's no drama, and they're kind of boring as a ship to me. And as friends they're so much sweeter.

This is why I shipped them harder in the new Star Trek because I'm all over that enemies-friends-lovers thing. But, TOS Kirk and Spock obviously love each other and if they are already friends I'm not as interested.

Fingon/Maedhros; Turin/Beleg - I hate these pairings with a burning passion. I can't stand Turin at all. Fingon/Maedhros I've been turned off more by the fandom but I also don't care for the pairing (and it's not the incest thing).

Gimli/Legolas - I just really like their friendship so I don't care to see them shipped.

Kili/Thranduil - I sort of understand it (if it's just that they're two hot characters - other than that, I don't get it). The Tauriel/Kili romance destroyed Kili's character for me and I can't stand him now. Plus, all the stories are so OOC and terrible.

Turin/Beleg doesn't work for me either. Because while I do like Turin as a character, he's horrible for everyone around him and Beleg's fate sucks enough without adding romance to it.

I do love Fingon/Maedhros, though. I don't like all the fandom versions of the pairing, but it does hit a lot of buttons for me.

Thranduil/any dwarf doesn't work for me. Thranduil/Thorin art is hot, but I don't really like hate sex that much. There is too much between Thranduil and anyone from the House of Durin for there to ever be romance.

I do like Gimli/Legolas mostly because I love friendships. I don't want to read about their sex lives.

I mostly agree with you on those, though I have different reasons.

I like Fingon/Maedhros in theory but end up apathetic about it in practice.

I dislike Turin and think he's a total ass, but I barely recall anything about him and Beleg (I haven't read Children of Hurin and it's been a while since I read The Silmarillion).

Gimli and Legolas failed to ever grab me. Their friendship failed to grab me too. I didn't even develop a liking for dwarves until The Hobbit, and the ones I like were not the ones who veered towards the type Gimli is.

I also can't see any logic in the Thranduil pairings, I really think he would never let himself feel anything for a dwarf. Like you said, two hot characters.

But my personal mental image of Kíli was influenced by fanfic before I even saw DoS, so the mess with Tauriel didn't put me off him, but I do think both characters were twisted out of all shape by it.

McShep. I get it, I just hate John Sheppard.

MCU Steve/Tony. I just think they're both way more interesting when paired with other people.

Duncan/Methos. I'm not even completely sure why I don't like it, but I don't. In friendship terms I can see what they give each other, but in romance I really don't.

TOS Kirk/Spock. I get it so very much, and I adore them as friends, but my first love will always be Spock/McCoy and I have to confess to a certain amount of dislike towards KS for eclipsing SMc so very very thoroughly.

Jack/Bunny. Jack/Pitch I can roll with, though it's not my favourite, but Jack/Bunny just seems to attract all my least favourite tropes.

Pretty much every major OUAT ship by this stage. They've all just gone pear-shaped (with the possible exception of Snow/Charming). Special mention to Hook/Emma, but I loathed that from its conception and the point probably doesn't need any more belaboring.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate John? I'm not criticizing you or anything; I just don't normally see that opinion in fandom and I'm interested (I think I've seen a ton of hate for just about every character that's NOT John, haha)

I'm read a lot of McShep but I never really shipped it just because I couldn't see it. It was such a huge pairing and I'm looking for the shippy moments and just not seeing them at all.

Count me in for McShep. I get it, but Sheppard was just such a douche to McCay.

Dean/Castiel. I fully understand why it's popular and I can't really begrudge anyone for shipping them (as long as they do it in a non-insane manner) but I just find the pairing a bit...off putting for some reason even though I like both of the characters. I might just be a bitter Castiel/Sam shipper though, haha.

Thor/Loki - I get the animosity leading to attraction thing, and by all means I should like this ship, but I don't.

Legolas/Gimli - it's the platonic super sweet friendship thing for me

Most big ships in Free! (except mayyybe Sousuke/Rin?) Actually, just Free in general. I'm a slash fan, I should like that anime on principle. But yeah, not so much.

KuroFai. I understand it completely, I just personally don't ship it and would very much appreciate it if the fandom would talk about other things :/

In the Haikyuu!! fandom: Kuroo/Tsukishima. I get why it's popular, but I really don't like it (especially since it break up my two other OTPs, namely Kuroo/Kenma and Yamaguchi/Tsukishima). Also, Kenma/Hinata. I see it's adorable, but I'm pretty meh about it (also the same reason as above - I may not actively ship KageHina but it's a passive OTP and all else seems just... wrong.).

The Evil Within fandom has a few instances of Ruvik/Leslie. I get where they are coming from but I am not fond of it at all.

And then there are all optional canon pairings/LI combinations in Dragon Age Inquisition. Sure, if people like them, that's great for them. My Inquisitor stayed single, though.

So late, but VERY much in agreement over Kuroo/Tsukishima, for much of the same reasons as yours.

Also, Daichi/Kuroo. Whyyyy. Suga is right there? And he's super cute with Daichi? Ugh.
