Is the "too afraid to turn into bronies" thing. That's the excuse I see brandished about ALL THE TIME. It makes me sure the people saying that never saw the brony fandom at their height of creepiness.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was about fear of turning into the FiM fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is a completely reasonable fear IMO

Brony-hate, yeah. A way of saying "We're not like them! We're different 'cause... uh... crap, gimme a minute here..."

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OUR PEOPLE ARE NOT MAGICAL HORSES! THEY ARE JUST OTHER CARTOON THINGS THAT ARE NOT REAL AND AN UNDERAGE CHILD~

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's absolutely the Brony thing. It's an overreaction, though, there isn't high enough of a fur factor to attract the absolute worst kind of fans.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as they tag it properly, I couldn't care less if someone makes SU porn tbh.
And from what I can tell, it's usually pretty tame compared to other fandoms I've been in.
The brony factor is probably a big reason why. I mean have you seen some of that clopping shit. Don't go looking it up, you'll be grossed out for life.

Honestly though, I think the "this character/pairing is now super abusive and evil and you have to acknowledge all their faults otherwise you're a bad person and you can't like them anymore!!" mindset is a way bigger promblem then the porn.

I agree I honestly find this ridiculous. Like it's one thing if one person sees a character or pairing as that, but they've not right to demand that other people accept and admit they are right.

"You have to admit this character is abusive and-" No. No I do not. You are free to think this. but the rest of us are under no moral obligation to agree with you.

I assume that most of the people who say this kind of thing are just teenagers or immature.

It's the worst. But not unique to the Steven Universe fandom. It's a tumblr thing.

There's no DON'T DRAW PORN, IT'S A KID'S SHOW rule. There's a TAG YOUR PORN CORRECTLY AND DON'T DRAW UNDER AGE PORN rule. There's a difference.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with putting porn in the right tags and aging up characters.

TBH I'd be worried if any of my fandoms went the way of bronies. Also, surprised. Then I'd bail, not sure why my mlp!loving friends are so involved in the mlp!fandom although I'm given to understand the bronies have dialed back or moved onto the shadows or the next shiniest thing or something, idk.

TBH i don't care if ppl draw explicit porn, as long as they fucking tag it as adult, nsfw or mark their blog as a mature one. HATE stumbling across porn with the safesearches on *hits report* >:[

Yeah like everyone else said the Steven Universe fandom is scared of turning into the new bronies. The fact that there are mostly girls in fandom is actually a big factor in why it could be the new mlp.

But there's still a shitload of porn in the fandom. Probably even porn with all the gems as ponies.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never dealt with bronies so idk about that, but sometimes I feel it might be a generational shift? It feels like a couple years ago we were all knee-deep in our filhty NC-17 HP (or whatever) fic and whatnot, and now I see a lot of those "But think of the children!"-postings going around, for various fandoms. You know, all that "Shipping [X] is problematic"-stuff.

I'm not really deeply immersed in this fandom though (although I like SU), so the people above me might know better.

I don't care if people draw porn of cartoons tbh, so long as it's tagged properly so that those who don't want to see it(or shouldn't be seeing it) don't casually stumble across it then it's all good.

There are some weird assumptions to it

[personal profile] feotakahari 2015-07-18 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
The anti-porn brigade seems to think porn is a thing only men make and consume. Therefore, any existence of porn in the SU fandom means existence of men in the fandom, and existence of men in the fandom means they're taking over a show for girls. (Of course a show where the title character is a boy is a show exclusively for girls!) Men must be chased off so they won't dominate the fandom, so that means chasing off anyone who creates porn.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
The creators aren't even against porn.

I was under the impression that it was because most of fandom in general is straight women and almost all the characters are female. Though being afraid of turning into the next bronies sounds like a reasonable fear.

I haven't seen past around....what, 12 episodes? But all of the gifs I see, especially of Ruby and Sapphire and the fusion dances? They skirt so damn close to sexual intimacy it's not even funny.

I mean, I have nothing against that honestly, cause making sexuality seem normal and ok is, imo, what we should be doing for children instead of that dumbass "shield them from all the sex." But honestly, picking THIS SHOW of them all to start screaming "no porn!!" over?

Yeah, no. When the adult characters are pretty damn intimate and that's how the creators are making them come across (not to mention they seem to be fine with fans making porn so long as they are tagged and posted properly), it's fucking stupid.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom creating porn about characters in series directed at kids is definitely not a new thing, however the era of tumblr SJW is fairly recent and they are responsible for the porn aversion mentality. These people think it's their responsibility to police or shelter others when all they actually do is create a tense environment and they only end up upsetting more people than they help.

It's especially obnoxious since most people are sure to tag or put up warnings for nsfw and if that kind of stuff makes you uncomfortable you should be able to avoid it yourself. As far as kids stumbling on porn then it is their parents responsibility to deal with it, not some stranger on the internet trying to order (actually 'shame' is probably more fitting) people. I have seen these people reblog nsfw content onto their own blog just to whine about how uncomfortable it makes them. Or they post their sob story to try and guilt the OP. I get the suspicion it's less about protecting people and more about shaming people for liking stuff that they don't.

Though I have to wonder why it's just about sex or romantic shipping. They don't seem to have anything against depictions of violence, bullying, or art of teenagers beaten up and bleeding. I mean, seeing art of two people beating each other up makes me feel uncomfortable but that doesn't get a special tag or placement under the cut. I see the same people against porn reblogging art of a 15 year old character beaten up and makes jokes like 'get rekt' about it but shipping something romantic instead of platonic.... no that is crossing a line! After all real life teenagers don't go on dates, hold hands, and kiss! That is so triggering!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I hope people realize this has nothing to do with what happened with MLP fandom, and more to do with the crowd tumblr attracts. This isn't something exclusive to SU fandom it is happening in pretty much every active fandom that resides on tumblr. Blaming the brony's boogie-man is just an excuse.

The anti-porn brigade are the same people calling everything problematic and abusive and making sure everyone feels guilty about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
The creators have gone on the record saying they don't mind porn being drawn for it, and Rebecca Sugar even drew porn in her fandoms years. I remember hearing fandom actually attempting to call her out for that.

it's because tumblr is the source of 99% of the SU fandom, and tumblr has a habit of frantically rushing to find the Next Big Thing™ to rail against. it doesn't matter that you don't actually care about (issue in question) just as long as everyone on tumblr sees that you were the FIRST to write an obnoxious post to the effect of: Friendly reminder that porn of Steven Universe is WRONG and BAD b/c it's a children's show! because then everyone can see that YOU were smart and ahead of the curve and self-righteous and special. it's become stunningly obvious that tumblr cares more about appearing righteous than actually doing something worthwhile.
