[MCU, Dr. Helen Cho]

I agree. While AOU was probably my least favorite non-Hulk MCU movie, the best part for me was the new characters. Wanda is amazing, I love Pietro and Vision, and Dr. Cho and Ultron were pretty interesting too. I wish there were more fics at all of them, but especially Wanda.

Waaaanda and Visiiiion. (。♥‿♥。)
And man, I'm as gay as it gets, but I somehow found Pietro really really hot in aou. (it may of had to do with the accent.)
Like, damn son.

And even though a lot of fans seemed to hate/ignore Cho and Ultron, I still found them pretty interesting.

I just find the sibling relationship between the Maximovs interesting. And I'd love more fics exploring how Wanda deals with losing him. And yes, I started shipping Wanda/Vision just from that one scene. And also started shipping Pietro/Clint, and I usually can't ship Clint with anyone but Natasha.

So little is known about Cho tho. She likes Thor, she's smart and she's self sacrificing, that's all.
I didn't know there was a 'no AOU' crowd, seems strange as it has the same creator as Avengers which everybody likes.

Why is that strange? Just because people like one movie in a series doesn't mean they'll like them all.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't see any anto AOU sentiments in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's cool, but you said it seems strange because it has the same creator as Avengers which everyone likes? That's what I was responding to.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-22 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest it still seems strange to me for the same reason. The two movies are similar, the characters are the same, the plotline is also samm'ish. The pacing or the mood in AOU may be different but it doesn't contradict Avengers so if someone likes the first movie I don't see why they would hate the second one to the point of 'nope, didn't happen'.

UPD no, wait, I forgot about Bruce/Natasha and Clint's secret family (possibly secret agents in disguise). I can see it now.

Genuine question: what part of fandom are you hanging out in to have seen *no* anti-AOU sentiment?

lentils: I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel (Default)

[personal profile] lentils 2015-07-22 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but this is the same fandom that wrote mountains of fic about Coulson, Clint, and Clint/Coulson back when we had like 3 character traits for each to go off of. Clint had even less character after Avengers 1 than Helen does now, IMO.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-23 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
ia about Clint. I think it's just because slash is more popular than het.)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand the hate for AoU. I thought it was just fine, except for the Bruce/Natasha stuff. Take that out and it's solid.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-07-22 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'd also add the Clint/Laura stuff. But yes, other than that it was really good.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
For me, it just felt exceedingly POINTLESS. I watched it and it felt like nothing had really happened, weirdly enough, even though the Avenger's lineup had completely changed.

I think a lot happened in terms of characterization, though. Especially for Tony and Steve. And I really liked the new characters a lot. And I liked the general plot and themes. I thought Ultron was a good villain. And I enjoyed the various battle scenes.

That's very strange. It seemed to me like quite a bit happened. I actually thought more happened than in the first movie, because they didn't have to spend so much dicking around with exposition.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. The whole movie felt like a means to an end to shake things up, rather than a solid stand-alone film. None of the character development really went anywhere, other than Clint, imo. I enjoyed more insight into Nathasha's character, although I think everything that happened with her can unfortunately very easily be ignored or washed away by the ending of the film. It has the value of making my sympathize with her struggles, but felt empty.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I felt the same way about the first Avengers movie, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it too. But then I'm the most casual of casual fans so I wasn't exactly cross-examining every detail. (Not that people can't do that if they want, but it's a much more relaxing viewing experience if you don't).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah same here. Though I know grown men that adored the Natasha/Bruce stuff.

I can give or take a large chunk of AoU tbh but the one thing I did like were the new characters, Dr. Cho, Wanda, Pietro and Vision were all cool and I want to see more of them down the line(well excluding Pietro since that's not really an option, but on my second viewing I liked him more since I wasn't just waiting for him to die the entire movie).

I haven't seen much for just Dr. Cho yet in the fandom but I'm hoping that when the movie comes out on DvD someone will put together some nice gif-sets of her. (there's a few floating about atm but the quality is pretty awful since it's camrip footage).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea she even existed, as I haven't seen the movie yet. Hmmmm...

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2015-07-22 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I admit I don't find her that interesting as a character, but I like her because she's Korean. I get mad excited to see my ethnicity represented in the media, especially a big one like The Avengers.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
There were a lot of great things about that movie, not just a fabulous lady scientist.
