And the way the show victim blamed both Kara and Ward after the abuse they both suffered is vile and I won't shut up about it. And Ward's actions aren't excused but his abuse at all but the show chose to ignore said abuse and kidnapping by John Garrett.
And Kara deserved so much better than what she got. She (and Ward) should have been able to heal and overcome their pasts but the show chose to vilify both abuse victims they portrayed.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)Ward was absolutely abused by his family, but with Garret he had plenty of opportunities to choose for himself, and he chose wrong.
Kara, on the other hand, was totally fucked over. She deserved better.

And while he wasn't put through the MCU version of brainwashing, Grant was still brainwashed because that's what John Garrett - his abuser for fifteen years - did to him through said abuse. There's plenty of evidence of the fact that it was both physical (and that went above and beyond simply to be for "the cover". Garrett took pleasure in it and that was definitely not the first time) and emotional abuse.
Now, it doesn't excuse any of his actions but it's very much canon and relevant.
Both Kara and Grant deserved better than this.

And it definitely doesn't excuse his actions at all but it's still extremely important.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 10:42 am (UTC)(link)Accept that he is a villain. The "good" version of him NEVER EXISTED. He lit a house on fire with his brother inside it because mommy didn't treat the brother like shit. HE IS AN ABUSER TOO and his past does not excuse that.
