There are different kinds?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it all just dark wiry bristles? Like someone forgot that different races have different types of hair, and made everyone black down there?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
IDK I haven't been introduced to a whole lot of people's pubic hair.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's pretty much been my experience. Even blond people tend to have darker hair down there.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
it's pretty much always curly i think but some people have it blonder/redder, or more sparse, and some people you can't see the skin through and it really is a bush, some people only have it around the lips/around the base of the dick and some it roots even up to the bottom of the shaft or to the inner thighs, the "hairline" along the belly is differently placed or shaped, some have a happy trail and some don't even across gender lines, etc etc.

There are different colors of pubic hair, as well as super curly and not so curly. There are difference!

No, it's all gross and ought to be shaved off.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Shaving is nice, but pubic hair can be very silky and alluring, besides a good treasure trail on guys always gets my imagination going.

But ass-pubes forming a manly triangle on top of the ass crack... That's another thing entirely. EXTERMINATE!

Besides color, the amount of hair and the area is covers can be different. Most people draw characters with no hair ever. It's understandable since society tends to maintain that at the perfect standard of beauty. I suspect the artists don't even really think about it much when they're drawing.

However, for some characters I'm honestly wondering why they don't have hair when I see them because for me it doesn't match either their personality of the world they're from.

Then again, I block porn from my dash so it's not like I see them that often anyway unless I end up scrolling through the tags. So I'd put it down as something that is nice to do but it's really, really not a top priority for me.

Ah, I rambled a bit. Sorry about that.

you may like "Loxie and Zoot" but only if you also like pure sitcom ploting.

maybe it's not that they're avoiding drawing hair, maybe it's because they have a preference for hairless

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
TBH, good fanart (or fic) should be about the character's preferences, not the artist's.

Yeah, that would be nice. Variety and all that.

I remember finding a thread in /m/ that was entirely dedicated to speculation about Char's pubes. I'm forever sad no one ever showed up to illustrate.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
body hair is such a detail feature, it's really easy to make it look weird and mess the picture up so i can understand why a lot of artists wouldn't bother
raspberryrain: "Waiting for the train" cropped and colour-shifted (rain)

[personal profile] raspberryrain 2015-09-24 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what you mean! Of course, lots of artists are formulaic about a lot more than that. So generic pubes are OK in that context. Having no pubes just looks weird for a lot of characters though.

. . .

I don't do fanart as a rule, but I do think about this kind of stuff in character design. Not pubes as much as some other things, but I try to design characters with different body parts. It's probably a bigger deal to me because I work in a 3D medium, so I'll have reference files saved of the "official" version of a character, and sometimes I'll have little details like that saved that might never be seen. It can be part of sculpting a unique character. (Not as much for certain unsexy background characters!)

. . .

In fanart, I think it would have to depend on how much I want to presume about the character. I might just keep them in pants. But yeah, when it comes up, you have to just make a judgement call.

Generic Pubes is my band name now.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like society has a weird judgmental freak out about body hair on woman (at all) and on men (sometimes). Not happy about that, but not surprised many artists either don't think about it or don't want to draw it because some people will be grossed out by...the existence of something everyone has?

:/ I mean, growing body hair is literally part of maturing. But have you ever looked at a Playboy magazine? I think people would probably fall down foaming at the mouth if any of the women had a single hair anywhere but eyebrows/head.

I find it extremely distasteful and creepy but that's society right? It's probably somethign to do with that.

Sorry if that got too tangenty.

I think people would probably fall down foaming at the mouth if any of the women had not a single hair on their eyebrows/head. Though fetishy magazines like that for the freakshow vulnerable look. Still no body hair there either, that'd be too weird.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
only if they're actually drawing hair and not a random color patch with jagged line edges that makes it look like the character has a pube toupee. fucking hate that shit. I'd rather see the character shaved than covered in a hair-patch as thick as a forest, a la bad 90s hentai.

I also have an eternal seething hatred for artists who make the carpet match the drapes with anime characters. I'm willing to believe a guy has green hair on his head but not that his dick is nestled in a lush green lawn. I'm willing to accept the girl with the luxurious blue ponytail but I don't think it means she also has a giant blue toupee between her legs.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Are you making the argument that anime characters dye their hair, and aren't naturally green/pink/blue/what have you? Why is it so hard to believe that's their natural color?

Anyone else remember the bit in Fruits Basket where the black-and-white-haired boy drags another boy into the bathroom to prove it's natural?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-24 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
wacky anime hair colors are supposed to be "natural" in the sense that they represent normal boring hair colors without all the characters sharing the same hair colors. i think cartoon artists have a limited number/range of colors they can use (to save time and money) so they decided to use the colors they DO have in their pallet to make characters stand out more from one another. (notice how only the important characters have the brightest most colorful hair. they're meant to stand out to the viewer.)

pink hair isn't ACTUALLY pink, it more likely represents a light red-blonde. purple or blue hair represents black without giving too many characters the same black hair. green represents a medium brown. so going by this theory, the pube color should also match the hair color.

What's going on with the legs in that picture? You normally don't see those bones this pronounced even when someone is stick thin...
