YES! I especially hate it because I do ship Johnlock and some of the (saner) things some of the (saner) people say aren't completely ridiculous, it's just regular shipping stuff. But most of it is sooooooo far-fetched. The intensity and seriousness of it all completely freaks me out as well.

The Supernatural fandom is scary. Nothing has yet been as scary as the Wincest tin hatters, but this is pretty bad. Destial is my SPN OTP, but anyone thinking it is anything but fanon is just ridiculous.

That's classic. Shipper tinhattery mixed with Lostie-style fixation on tiny details that totally must mean something never gets old. I've been through this whole series about ten times now and still have no idea what they mean about signage "very frequently" being meaningful. Sometimes they drive past signs because there are signs on the streets and they drive a lot?

What do you define as well written? Because I define her as well written.

What makes her any worse written than any of the other Marvel characters? Because unless you have a beef with how all the Marvel characters are written, I can't see any actual, rational reason for singling out BW that doesn't have something to do with "She's FEEEEEEMALE." Bonus points if it's "She's FEEEEEMALE and I refuse to acknowledge ANY FEEEEMALE as being well written unless they conform to my 400 page essay on how ALL female characters MUST be written or else they are evil anti-feminist conspiracies."

Some actor gave his newborn son a name with two J's in it, and "J2" happened to be the fandom shorthand for RPF involving him and his co-star. Fans took this as a sign that he was in love with his co-star instead of his wife. (I think the show was Supernatural?)

My fandom has the standard "They've been such good friends for so long, they HAVE to be in love!" one, couple with a little "He gave one of his kids his buddy's middle name, so obvs a sign of their love!"

...My mom gave me my aunt's middle name. Preeeetty sure they weren't doing it.

I'm still amazed that some guy on the radio saying Teletubbies was trying to turn kids gay because Tinky-Winky is purple and has an upside-down triangle antenna became a national talking point that people had serious debates about in the 90s.

There was also someone who wrote an essay that delved into the numerous reasons why Blaise Zabini was definitely not black, after Order of the Phoenix came out and said right in the book that he was black. I don't remember what any of the reasons were, but the author even went into other canons like Shakespeare and Tolkien for his proof.

I remember a fandom_wank about some bitter Snape fan who insisted that Lupin (in wolf form) tried to rape Snape that time that Sirius tricked him into almost getting killed. F_W is dead, or I'd look it up, but there was a line that said something along the lines of "he was nearly raped, feeling Lupin's hot breath on his face." Yeah, I ain't even know.
