This is how I feel with the Leia metal bikini cosplay: it seems to be the go-to costume, mainly to send horny fanboys into overdrive. The Leia bikini cosplayers and the fanboys really missed the point of the costume: it was a form of sexual slavery by Jabba and that in itself is gross.

I don't give a damn what grown women wear. Go in two bandaids and a string for all I care. But it does bother me to see little girls in "sexy" costumes. I am not talking about teens either. 5 or 6 year olds in fishnet stockings and fake boobs. WTF is wrong with people who think that is OK? And don't you dare blame the costume makers because if there wasn't a demand then they wouldn't produce them.

I genuinely like this costume though I've seen it so many times by now that I'm a bit bored of it. If you can pull it off and are comfortable wearing it then I say go for it, but a bit more variety is always appreciated. *shrugs*
