So Charlie Sheen has HIV.

I realize HIV/AIDS is not some big punishment, but I'd be lying if I didn't say this diagnosis was some sort of karma for his drug and sex lifestyle.

Karma, no. No one "deserves" HIV. But having lots of sex with lots of people and doing lots of drugs does put you at higher risk, yes, so it's not shocking.

I happened to see a bit about this last night before he announced it officially.

The way they were talking about it was actually pretty disgusting.

Also, it's not fucking karma. HIV does not go after bad people. It doesn't only happen to people who do drugs or have lots of unprotected sex. Those things put you at a higher risk, and that is why people recommend you don't do them.

It doesn't matter how you contract it. Everyone deserves good treatment and support. Perpetuating the negative stigma attached to HIV is harmful to people who have to live with it.

True. I work with AIDS patients. They are people like everyone else and suffer greatly from this.

Eh. He apparently slept with a bunch of women (they are suing him) without telling them he had HIV. So no sympathy from me.

I don't believe in Karma, but I don't see a problem with putting it that way.

a) good people die, too. when someone says "bad person is dead, kinda had it coming" they do not devalue the good people who die, either. Nor does it really perpetuate the stigma of HIV. If he got crabs or lice people would say the same thing - probably more loudly, even.

b) it's not even like this is a death sentence anymore. It's not like his life expectancy is so very great, anyway, what with the drugs and stuff. And of course he deserves treatment and support, but having HIV doesn't suddenly make him less of a jerk, either.
I guess I wouldn't say it to his face, but yeah, he kinda had it coming.

I agree. It does sound like Charlie Sheen (who, like most celebs, I knew very little about) is a major douche, but that doesn't make this karma - it's still just a thing that happened.

I wish he had come out with this sooner rather than paying people off. He would have received more sympathy in general. Treatments are much more proactive nowadays.

I don't care about his drug use, but the abuse of women? Oh yeah he deserves this. I can't wait to see this piece of shit crumble. I on;y have three hopes: 1. that it's painful 2. That it's public and 3.That he hasn't ruined any woman's life with this.

I don't think he deserves HIV ("deserve" just doesn't come into it), but I could not be much less sympathetic to him.
