Shit, calm your tits.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-25 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the things that you are saying.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't noticed this other than the radfem troll that pops up every now and then, but in the hypothetical IA.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Uh... I can't say I have ever see the thing you're describing here (especially not as a regular occurence) but sure, whatever.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen it happening occasionally in conversations / arguments about men in fandom spaces / do men ship / etc.

But it's also possible that I'm avoiding the kinds of arguments OP is talking about so IDK

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Tbf the person insisting that no men ship ever was probably a troll to begin wtih.

I was surprised the first time it happened, where a guy confessed to something that seems unusual for a guy and comments said he was probably trans, and then it happened again and again.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen it happen so serious question, was it anons that sounded the same and could theoretically have been our resident radfem troll? Or genuine responses

I wish some trans men wouldn't try to have it both ways, i.e. claiming not to have male privilege, trying to participate in women only/lesbian circles. Either you're a man or you're not, and if you are, accept you're going to be held to the same standard as every other men. Anything other than that would be misgendering you.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
>Either you're a man or you're not
How about you go fuck yourself. There are plenty of non binary gender identities:

Agender: Someone who has no gender. They are genderless.

Aliagender: Someone who defines their gender as ‘other’ or apart from existing genders.

Androgyne: Someone who identifies as androgynous, gender-wise.

Androgynous: A style of clothing or appearance, androgyny is also a type of genderqueer, the state of being inbetween man and woman, or both man and woman.

Bigender: Someone who has two genders, typically man and woman (but not necessarily). They either identify as both, or they move between the two.

Boi: From the Butch and Femme Lesbian communities, the Black/POC Lesbian and Trans* communities, queer Kink communities, and probably many others, boi is a variation on boy and can mean butch lesbians, young gay men, tomboy-like identity, DFAB trans people, sub/bottom, etc.

Demiboy: Someone partly a boy, and partly something else, without defining that other part.

Demigirl: Someone partly a girl, and partly something else, without defining that other part.

Enby (or NB): Short for Non-Binary, someone whose gender is simply non-binary.

Genderfluid (or fluid): Someone who is genderfluid moves between genders; their gender is not something that they or anyone can pin down and define.

Genderfuck (or genderf*ck): Someone who is a genderfuck purposefully messes with people concepts of gender, literally, they fuck gender.

Genderqueer: An umbrella term for all genders other than man and woman, or someone who simply identifies as another gender, a queer gender.

Gender Variant: Someone whose gender is varied, either in a fluid or static way.

Intergender: Someone whose gender is in between two other, ‘full’ genders, such as an androgyne feeling that theit gender falls between man and woman. Often used by intersex people.

Neutrois: Similar to agender, but often including transition, someone whose gender is null or neutral.

Non-Binary: An umbrella term for all genders completely outside of the man/woman binary, or someone who simply identifies as outside of the gender binary.

Pangender: Someone who is all genders. This, by literal definition, includes culturally specific genders and is problematic and probably appropriative.

Polygender: Someone who has more than one gender, either identifying as more than one gender at once, or moving between genders.

Situational Genderfluid (or situational fluid): Someone who is situationally genderfluid moves between genders based on their enviroment. As a sub-section of genderfluid, it implies a pattern.

Third gender: Unlike androgynous and agender, some people consider themselves to be a third gender, one outside the concepts of masculine and feminine, although this is hard to pinpoint, as different people experience this feeling differently.

Trigender: Someone who has three genders, either at once or moving between them.

Don't erase their identities.

You're a troll, so you don't deserve this response, but I honestly can't help myself. Listen, as someone who switched sexualities recently, it becomes hard to remember that year, you aren't that anymore. Especially if you've identified as lesbian for over a decade.

And it can hurt a lot when a crowd you once hung out with (like lesbians) are now hostile to you. Everyone is acting like these "evil sneaky trans men" are trying to get in, and then there's the "evil sneaky trans women" and "evil bisexuals" all trying to ~oppress lesbians~ somehow by existing.

When it's much more likely that the trans men are just trying to figure themselves out and having a hard time saying goodbye to the communities they had before they started transitioning.

Haha. I remember once I made a comment expressing a sentiment along the lines of your secret. In response, some anon simply said "This isn't your safe space."

No shit it's not a safe space; I never claimed it was. But F!S not being a safe space isn't an adequate excuse to be an asshole for no fucking reason. And 9 times out of 10 the sort of bigoted (transphobic, racist, anti-Semitic, etc.) comments that tend to show up here are totally unwarranted lazy attempts at trolling.

I swear, we used to have quality trolls here, not just this bullshit. What happened? :(

I agree with you in principle, but in all honesty, often when I see a guy doing something you wouldn't normally expect of a guy in fandom (like drawing slash, going on about SJ stuff, or even just typing in a particular way or holding a particular view) I can't help but wonder if he's a trans guy. I don't think there has been a single time yet when I've had that hunch that it didn't turn out to be true (at least on the occasions I was able to find out).

Trans guys are guys, I get that, but sometimes it seems really obvious online when a guy was raised as a girl.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be honest here, I think you're using a hell of a lot of confirmation bias. Cis men enjoy slash, plenty of cis men are into social justice stuff, and typing a certain way/holding a certain view....holy shit is that starting to reach like hell.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're getting pretty much 100% of your confirmation bias from tumblr. Tumblr is overwhelmingly AFAB, so yeah, you're going to get plenty of trans men on there.

Go to Reddit, 4chan, Voat, or any other internet hub, and you'll find all the same exact shit, except it's overwhelmingly cis men. Over on /r/Feminists 99% of the guys there are cis dudes (which you can figure out pretty easily when the guy posts something about his penis or prostate in another one of the subreddit and doesn't interact with the trans subreddits at all.) I remember one time on /y/ (the yaoi board) they had a poll and it was like 75% cis men swapping yaoi pics.

I'm kind of the same as you, tbh, even though I know it's not always fair. And while I am perfectly willing to assert that trans men are absolutely men, the DO have the experience of being raised as and treated as a woman. There's nothing wrong or shameful about that, it just is what it is. Trans people have experiences that are unique from cisgender people, and that's okay, so I don't think it's wrong to suggest those experiences may have shaped them as people. But as the other anon commented, I think it probably helps that LJ/Tumblr has been extremely female-dominated fandom, so a lot of trans people here, as non-trans men, have to be more comfortable with that if they are going to stick around, and I'd imagine trans guys would generally feel more comfortable on average with that than non-trans guys.

Yeah, because it's not like men are involved in social justice movements.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-26 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeez, check your privilege dude. Just cause you transitioned to the character class that gets listened to in the game of life doesn't mean you have to start preaching. Remember where you came from and that you too were a woman once and ought to know how to be quiet.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-27 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Feminists engaging in gender stereotyping? You must be joking!
