Don't worry, in 5-10 years people will look back on this show and talk about how -ist and terrible and cliche it was.

That's true of, like, EVERY show though

~fistbump~

I've never liked Jessica. Not in the comics, and not now. There are way better characters who should've got their own series, IDK why Marvel picked her.

Because she doesn't really get in the way of storylines they want to use in the movies, I'd wager.

I like Kristen Ritter, but then I think she's super cute so there's that.

Whether the show is the best thing on TV is entirely subjective, though. It is for me because it stars one of my favorite Marvel heroes + manages to hit all my buttons. But for everyone who's saying it's the best there's another person thinking it's the worst TV show ever produced. JJ probably just managed to hit on things that a lot of people want to see right now.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, agreed. I'm also not even particularly liking David Tennant in the Kilgrave role, though granted I'm not that far into the series yet.

What I don't like about it is they seem to belabor every. single. plot point. to death. Like, give the viewers a little bit of credit.

Does she really look the part? I agree about the acting, sadly, and her "witty lines" are just not that witty or well-delivered. I've only watched the pilot though.

Eh...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
KR was a professional model, I think. She's very striking.

In the comics, the artist seemed to be trying to make a point of JJ being ordinary-looking. So the TV version is definitely a Hollywood interpretation of the character.

I was honestly never under the impression that Jessica is supposed to be witty in the series. It isn't really her character. Is she like that in the comics?

I really enjoyed it, but to each their own.

I don't actually think Kristen Ritter looks all that much like Jessica from the comics but I liked her in the show so it didn't bother me.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
She looks NOTHING like Jessica in the comics, but that's fine. The show's doing a totally different story, one that I actually like better. She doesn't look like the same Jessica, but she's NOT the same.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree with you a bunch, but whatever

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
This is kind of how I felt when everyone was creaming themselves over Daredevil, which I found boring.

Jessica Jones I liked a bit better but it definitely had a tendency to drag and took itself too seriously sometimes. I like Krysten Ritter but I will admit that she tended to struggle with the cheesy comic dialogue at times (someone just bring back Don't trust the B.)

Both this show and Daredevil had the problem of the dialogue and story being SUPER OBVIOUS. Everyone said what you'd expect them to say, the plot went exactly where you'd expect it to go. I hope both improve in the second season.

Yet again, another boring, idiotic "hero" who assumes their superstrength or whatever is a good substitute for a firearm. Looking down at the bad guy with mind control powers through a skylight? Just shoot the fucker. Problem and season-long plot line solved.

David Tennant is a terrible actor himself so he's on the right show.

Could be worse. They could have cast Eliza Dushku as JJ.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I have to say I really loved the show and burned through the episodes very quickly (whereas Daredevil dragged a bit in the middle for me).

I hadn't seen Krysten Ritter in anything since Veronica Mars, so I didn't know what to expect, but she was really great. I think the peripheral characters needed a bit more development, such as her neighbours, and I thought Carrie Anne Moss was a bit terrible. But Jessica Jones and Luke Cage had a LOT of chemistry together, and so did Jessica and Kilgrave except super creepily. I also think Kilgrave's power was just SO terrifying, and put to good use story-wise. The casual way he orders people to do things really showed how he'd never had anyone say 'no' to him before, and even though I found him disgusting, he was also charming and amusing. David Tennant really sold it. And why wouldn't he want to attach himself to a Marvel property? Lucrative and extremely popular, it's a good choice for any actor at the moment.

Well, I don't watch a ton of television (I TRY to, then fall behind on most of it) so there's plenty of shows I haven't seen and probably won't see. I've (mostly) enjoyed the MCU so far though, I like superheroes, and the idea of a female one starring in a show that I could binge watch was appealing to me. (Even more so since this show was supposed to have the same vibe to it that Daredevil did, and I adored Daredevil. It got me excited for JJ.)

I'm not going to say JJ is the best show on tv, but it suited my tastes perfectly and it didn't take much to get me hooked.

But I also thought Krysten was a very believable, flawed character and that appealed to me; I liked her in the role. As for David, he was a spectacular Kilgrave; I can't imagine anyone else playing that character now. (By far the most terrifying villain in the MCU for me, as well as...pretty much anywhere. I can't 'like' him, but David deserves props.)

Man, people seem really upset about other people liking a show they don't like.

I liked it a lot. Since I've never had much interest in villains who want to take over the world I liked that this was more small scale. I'm also not a huge fan of David Tennant, some roles I think he's good in and others he just manages to be annoying, but I thought he mostly worked as Kilgrave although unlike others I never found the character all that charming (apparently I'm immune to DT's charms), but I liked a lot of the other characters and while there were some flaws and things that could have been handled much better I thought it was pretty well-done overall. I would have watched it just for the relationship between Jessica and Trish alone.

It is kind of slow in the beginning but about halfway through it really picks up. Plus it's the only show I've ever, EVER seen that dealt with rape realistically.

I don't disagree with anything, but the thing is I just don't care. it's the most feminist show on TV and people are accepting of that. It could be 50 shade levels of terrible, but it's gotten a female super hero front and centre, it's promoting an anti-violence against women / anti-sexual-violence against women message, it's a show showing what horrors can come from white male entitlement and how hard it is for real women to deal with that, and people are watching it. Would I like it if it was also good? sure, but if I can't have everything I'm happy I have this.
