It [probably] didn't vindicate your views

I don't even care what she said, or what the play is going to reveal about him, I just loved that it pissed off all the DemonSnape fans. Their outrage is eternal. And Neville deserved all he got too, except happiness.

And Neville deserved all he got too,

Obviously.

Okay so a child deserves to be bullied by a teacher because he's accident prone and lacking in confidence because he grew up with a relative who always expected him to be his father.

Okay sure. You sound like a fantastic person.

But what ARE your thoughts on yaoi views on Snape, then? You forgot to go validated and condescending ALL the way here.

Snape Did Nothing Wrong

(presumably)

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Snape was a screwed up dude who needed therapy like a fish needs water, but he did manage to do the right thing at the very end and if he hadn't, then Harry might not have won through.

Op

That he was a deeply flawed man who did the right thing at the end and died out of love

Re: Op

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
But you agree that he was deeply flawed and did things that were profoundly morally wrong, yes?

I don't think many people disagree with this? It is just that for some people, the flaws outweigh the positives. He did do the right thing in the end. And he died out of love for Lily (a love that was a bit creepy and stalker-like, but still). But that doesn't change the fact that he was an adult who bullied children, and for me that flaw outweighs the positives.

JKR wasn't entirely defending him anyway. She was talking about both sides of him, and it was more about Harry's forgiveness than actually being about Snape.

I don't think we ever met Severus Snape. We saw a series of masks he'd created to get through life, hiding his true self underneath them all until the "real" Snape vanished beneath a conflicting pile of masks and careful practised responses and rehearsed behaviours. I don't think we even saw him in the flashbacks, just the masks he wore as a child.

Severus Snape? We never knew him at all.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I thing this might be a joke or a quote or something I'm not recognizing? But I just wanted to say that I really don't agree with this point of view. Our true selves are the accumulation of everything we are and everything we do. What's beneath the surface is not necessarily more real than what's on the surface. Because it's all part of a whole.

It probably didn't.

All she basically said was that Snape was a shitty person, but his last action was brave.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lol she wrote a small essay on Snape and that's all you got from it?

Yes? That and she said Harry named his kid after Snape partly because he had no remaining family.

I don't see why her 'defending' Snape holds any water or changes anything.

We all read the books. We know she decided to name one of Harry's kids after him and count Snape as 'one of the bravest men he'd ever known'. It was always clear where here stance was on Snape.

But that doesn't change that a lot of people disagree with it and did not find Snape sympathetic or heroic at all.

Personally, I don't like to vilify Snape, I just think his life was pathetic. He liked a girl who only viewed him as a friend and he got bitter and ruined that friendship and let that crushed relationship ruin the whole rest of his life. He was bullied and took it out on an innocent kid whose only crime was being related to his father.

He might not have been as terrible as he could have been, but he was still pretty pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what you read given that Snape is the hero of the series.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
lmao "hero of the series" I'd like to know what you read. Surely it wasn't that thing with the actual hero's name printed in giant bold letters on every cover?
