OP

I want to state that I personally am not into shota/loli. I guess the closest would be finding Sebastian/Ciel interesting as a dynamic? I'm not burning up AO3 reading sex fics or anything about them though.

Oddly enough the reason I decided to write this secret is because of shota. It surprised the hell out of me how many women are into it. Four of my anime loving friends are totally into it, and a couple of them like loli too. They're all in their mid twenties, upwardly mobile, two are single, one is married, and the other has a girlfriend. I know them all personally too, and they're very much of the "kids in real life are gross" stance, which I find a lot of people into this genre seem to feel. I started looking into it all more and I realized just how grey this whole issue is.

I just feel the whole "shaming" of people who like this, or who shout "PEDO!!"...it's kind of bullshit. One of the creators of Stephen Universe was caught when someone realized she used to draw explicit Ed, Edd and Eddy artwork in her early twenties. I think there needs to be a discussion on why shota/loli or underage cartoon depictions appeal to some people without shaming them immediately as pedophiles. Do I really think the girl who helped create Stephen universe is a secret pedophile? Not at all.

If I had to take a guess, combined with what my friends and people who have kindly taken the time to speak with me have told me, it's kind of an offshoot of "moe" culture. They enjoy the overt cuteness of the characters, many people also have a "pureness" kink going on where they enjoy seeing someone being "taught the ropes" or "shown pleasure for the first time"...I don't know, I actually find all this to be an interesting conversation, and I think I do in part because I don't find the people who enjoy underage characters to be monsters.

Just because your pedophile friends are women doesn't make it okay to be a pedophile. Women are very often bad people.

They're not pedophiles though, unless you're insinuating that they're abusing pixels or pieces of paper.

Men who are int this aren't pedophiles either, but you have to admit when someone says "a person who likes shota/loli" the immediate picture that comes to mind is a fat, mouthbreathing weeaboo who lives in his mom's basement. That's kind of what our culture has stereotyped them as. Seeing the fact that a bunch of preppy, attractive ladies are into it goes directly against the stereotype.

It's a shame that pedophiles are stereotyped that way. Lots of successful, attractive people are child predators. People need to realize that just because someone seems cool, it doesn't make their desire to rape children are okay.

Same with serial rapists in general. The attractive, charismatic, professional ones tend to get away with it a lot longer because they don't fit the popular stereotype of a rapist as a creepy, unattractive, aggressive loser.

But any of that still doesn't have anything to do with the actual point in question here, about whether porn involving fictional cartoon characters has anything to do with one's real life sexual predilections.

so its about how a person appreciate a trope without being eager realistically or is just liking the way these media presenting itself?

I totally agree. It's the same way I don't think people who are into loli are pedos. I think there's a different dynamic to it with make otaku fanning lolis - like it's absolutely about having a non-threatening sexual fantasy for the stereotypical NEET or whatever, I think. It's not about actual little girls, it's about wanting women but not having the self esteem to engage an adult woman, with some sexist snarf about fetishizing submission and childlike qualities in women.

With women who are into shota... I feel like it's more complicated. I think it plays into power dynamics. "Mainstream" shota ships like in Black Butler or Loveless feature very precocious boys in toxic relationships with some older guy who is fucking him over in some way. I don't think you could have that same sort of power dynamic if the ages were different. It's playing on vulnerability and naivete in a way that's acceptable at a certain age but would make you think of the character as a retard if he were 25.

Women who are into loli I think are almost exclusively into picturing themselves as the loli and are into older men, from what I've seen.

I'm not sure if this made sense, but tl;dr I agree.

OP

Oddly enough my friends are pretty non-stereotypical of the examples you gave. My one friend who is into loli is a bisexual girl who almost exclusively enjoys girl/girl loli wither either both girls being younger or one being an 'older sister' type.

With shota, one friend tends towards the Loveless/Kuroshitsuji type dynamic (and I think it's very fascinating that you bring up power dynamics, I never really thought of it that way before), but the other is very fond of both of the characters being shotas. That is the one I mentioned who is into the overly "cute" stuff.

As for guys who like loli, I agree, I think a lot of it has to do with not feeling comfortable interacting with real women. And lolis in animes, at least the more mainstream ones I've seen, all tend towards that "whatever onii-chan (aka audience insert character) likes, I'll always love onii-chan" types, all welcoming and sweet and submissive, which I imagine makes them very popular with the socially repressed.

In the case of Kuroshitsuji though, it's very clearly stated that Sebastian is a demon that Ciel made a deal with to get out of the bad situation he was in and t help him get revenge on the people who killed his parents. Ciel knows what's going to happen once he enacts his revenge and for all we know, he seems perfectly okay with it if it means avenging his parents. Plus as a demon, Sebastian has different morals than humans.

the problem is that loli porn etc is frequently used by pedophiles to get children to "reenact" scenes in a "playful" way because it's animated. you could say that they would be violated anyway once they're in the position, but seeing it made "okay" in anime might keep them from reaching out for help.

I can agree you with the other points, but please look into this argument.
