Kind of offtopic, but I am just in awe of the mental gymnastics Reylo/Stormpilot/OmgReyisACE/Lesbian people do to ignore the painfully obvious romantic subtext between Rey and Finn. I mean, god damn, he asked if she had a boyfriend, chased after her all movie, CAME BACK to the ONE PLACE HE NEVER WANTED TO BE and was RUNNING AWAY FROM just to SAVE HER. Plus her kiss at the end...If Poe didn't exist, and Finn was white, I don't think people would be this obtuse about it.

Also, I don't understand where the "Rey is Ace omg" stuff comes from. I'm Aseuxal, and I saw nothing that implied she was Ace.

Finn -> Rey, yes. Rey -> Finn, hell no. She friendzoned him hard.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
She didn't, though? When she wouldn't stop hugging him until Han said knock it off? When she went after Kylo just to protect him? When she cried over his body? Read the script, it has a line in it that says 'the boy she already adores'. Plus, you know, the kiss at the end.

I mean, he cared more about Rey/Spent more time with Rey than Poe. What was his reaction to Poe dying? Chasing after the cute girl and asking if she had a boyfriend. What was his reaction to thinking Rey might die? He went to the place he swore he'd never go back to, after screaming her name/chasing after a flying ship, lied to the resistance...It's going to happen. Hell, John Boyega already shotdown Stormpilot, and Rey is most likely a Skywalker.

There's this obscure thing called friendship.

the kiss
It was a goodbye. A farewell. Symbolism of longing in stories.

The point you're supposed to take from this, is that Rey is going far far away from Finn. TFA was the first movie of the trilogy but they rushed their friendship at the first part, because they won't see each others for sometime. There will be no Rey romance. Jedi are chaste.

JJ fucked up if he intended the forehead kissto show love and affections, most people understood friendship and brotherly love.

She friendzoned him hard.

n....no? what?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Friendzoned? What the fuck? They just met and of course they are friends right now. Whose to say it won't grow into something more when they meet again?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Canonly, sure, Finn/Rey looks likely. But fandom isn't tied down to what canon claims and if people want to ship Reylo/Stormpilot/headcanon Rey as ace/gay, they should go for it. Without being accused of omg racism.

(and if people ship Poe/Finn, why are they still being accused of racism lmao what is going on here)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying they can't, I'm talking about the people who say x/y/z are totes canon, and if you don't ship Finn/Rey you're an omghomophobe or omgracist because Rey is an evil white woman and Finn/Poe are interracial gay bb5eva

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I mean Finn/Poe*

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
OH okay. Yeah, that's dumb.

I'd like to think Finn's race isn't the reason people don't like that ship/don't want to see canon subtext. I mean...we're beyond that...right??

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ha ha. Ha ha! Ha HA HA HA HA HAAAH HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAaaaaauCK-

:(

come on, folks...

Is it outright racism? Or just the subtle "not two pretty white people" thing? I mean, Finn/Poe is pretty common, right? So I'd think it wasn't that...

One thing I love about Rey/Finn is the racial difference. Racial issues have never in the past been super personal to me, since I'm white, but I'm currently dating a black man so interracial relationships as an ~issue~ are definitely more personal to me than they were before, and I would hope they'd be more-or-less normalized by now...right? Well to all the people I interact with IRL it's not a big deal at all, but it seems there are people who aren't over this yet. Ugh.

I'm not sure I have convincingly yet seen Rey return Finn's romantic interest, though I wouldn't say she "friendzoned" him - at least, there's a lot of room for that romance to happen, I just don't think it happened yet.

I also don't think it necessarily will happen. Luke/Leia was "supposed" to happen in the original film. Though Finn/Rey seems like a cute pairing, I kind of like obvious pairings not actually turning out.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Luke/Leia was "supposed" to happen in the original film.

Wait what? Were they also not supposed to be siblings originally, or...

NAYRT

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC there was some leaked info that Han/Leia was so popular they made Luke and Leia siblings to sink the ship. But the same person who told me this added "it might have been the other way around" which, to this day, I'm still really confused about.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, whether or not Lucas had decided they'd be siblings or not, it wasn't revealed in the first movie. And Luke clearly had a crush on Leia, and he was the protagonist, and usually the male heroes get the girl.

If you're implying the very dark Finn is going to turn out to be the brother of the very light skinned Rey....

Yeah I watched some commentary or documentary with George Lucas narrating a long time ago and he said something changed in the script. Probably for dramatic purposes. I wish I could remember where exactly I heard that from.

haha, that scene was awesome.

(And it's great because nobody comments on Percy/Pierre, whoever those guys are, being slash)

Yeaaah. I hadn't seen the movie until awhile after it released and and I was only exposed to what I saw from fandom. I was surprised how strong the Finn/Rey was in the movie. Thanks to fandom I thought Rey and Finn never even met each other.

When I watched the movie it was pretty obvious Finn has some attraction towards her. Maybe not on the level of romance yet, but definitely some foundations laid out.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe because they pay more attention to the girl's feelings on the matter than the guy's and don't expect that just because he likes her that she'll automatically develop feelings for him too?

Plus, it's blindingly obvious that Finn's Han Solo and Poe is Leia and Rey is Luke. We all know what the OT endgame was there, and it wasn't Han and Luke.

So do you think it's going to be Finn and Poe? Is a gay romance in a Star Wars movie really realistic at this point? And why should it follow the same pattern anyway?

(I kind of disagree btw about that alignment - I'd say it's more like Poe is Han, though of course I don't think Rey and Finn are going to end up being long-lost twins)

Yeah Rey and Finn are the most romantic of anyone so far.
