Are we talking fanfic? Because in fanfic annoying childish brat is the default for young girls for the same reason overly macho and amazingly "badass" is the default for young males. That is what the fanfic authors have as their idealized self, that is what they have purveyed to them in mass media as the ideal for the gender, and that is what they generally get praised for writing by their peers (because you are not allowed to tell people when they are writing crap anymore). Thankfully it is what they eventually grow out of writing. If we are talking pro-publication, then they write what sells so it becomes a self perpetuating cycle.

Not sure if annoying childish brat is the ideal. Isn't it an amazingly badass girl who's also jaw dropping beautiful?

That is a childish brat right there. Pretty, perfect, entitled and everyone caters to her. God, I hate Clarke in the 100.

huh, didn't watch it)

(because you are not allowed to tell people when they are writing crap anymore)

Well if you want them to listen to you, that's a pretty bad idea. Of course they're not going to take advice from someone who comes by to lecture them on how awful their story is. They're going to listen to you if you tell them what can be done o make their story better without making them feel like shit. Because most people don't like to listen to people who just try to make us feel bad.

I mean of course you're 'allowed' to. You just won't get the reaction you want and people listening will point out when you're being a dick about it. You won't get arrested for it or anything. So you're allowed. You're just not owed the response you want to hear. Consequences of your speech are still a thing, like gravity.

Eh? There's never been a time when all writers gracefully accepted criticism, so acting like this is a new development sound a bit... well, "old man yelling at clouds". There'll always be writers who do not want concrit or are sensitive to conrit. There'll always be writers who are fine with it.

Of course, if you're just telling people their writing is crap, that's not constructive, it's just an insult. It could be it's not that people are unaccepting of critiques, but that you're alienating people by being unnecessarily rude.

Kinda off topic, but in my experience, whenever somone critiques or gives valid criticism to an author, (especially if they're famous) their stans always jump out of the woodwork and bash them endlessly.

For example, a few weeks ago one of my friends made a calm rational post about how she wishes JK Rowling could of done better with the lgbt representation in her Potter books.
Que a crapton of JK stans appearing out of nowhere and spitting venom about how my friend needs to stop, "forcing her ideas on Rowling" and needs to, "stop bullying JK and leave her alone" and my favorite, "you have no right to criticize a famous author because you're probably a shitty one yourself!"
Lmao seriously. And this hasn't even been the first time I've seen something like this.

When people complain about "not being able to tell someone their writing crap." They're probably not just referring to the author. Hardcore book fans can be pretty nasty if someone questions or critiques one of their faves imo.

I don't doubt that famous authors have their stans, but the original comment was talking specifically about fanfic writers. I know BNFs have their stans as well, but in general you're not going to see a whole lot of public concrit for fanfic writers, so you're not going to see anywhere near as much backlash.
