Not a fan of MRAs, they're basically the male version of the Tumblr feminists.

I don't support the Death Eaters either. You do remember that Snape regrets his affiliation with them and spent the rest of his life trying to atone for it, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
He wasn't trying to atone for being a racist. In fact he kept being a racist bully. He was only trying to atone for his role in Lily's death.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
When the portrait of Phineas Black referred to Hermione as a 'mudblood' Snape got angry at him and told him not to use that word. So clearly he didn't still hold onto those views as an adult.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Then why'd he keep bullying and abusing Muggle-borns?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Did he bully them because they were? Because he was an asshole to nearly everyone except for Slytherins.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Because the Slytherins were all pureblood racists, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
And you're dodging the question.

Show me an example of Snape showing prejudice to a half-blood as an adult because of their parentage.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
He certainly bullied them, and he was certainly unwilling to defend them from the racist depredations of his charges, so it's just really difficult for me to see his commitment to the principles of anti-racism.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
So again you don't have an answer.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I gave you an answer. He was a racist and there's no strong evidence that he ever stopped being a racist.

That seems like an answer to me. At one point Draco was openly hoping for the murder of every Muggleborn in school via Slytherin's monster, in CoS. He was speaking at the top of his lungs in Snape's class, Snape did nothing to stop him, even smirked at one point. I agree I didn't see much commitment to non-racism from Snape.

List of Muggle-borns he "bullied and abused" needed, please.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have my books with me but Hermione just for starters

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Because she was a know-it-all who would talk out of turn, not because of her parentage.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
She wasn't a 'know-it-all'. She was a smart, motivated student. Please don't frame it as though Snape's reaction was in any way justified - it was unjustified whether or not it was an outgrowth of his racism. That's kinda disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I guess Ron is being a bully here too.

Friendly ribbing from a peer and friend is categorically different from similar action taken by an adult teacher in a position of authority

Dude, come on. Anon is trying to explain why Snape didn't like her, not share their own opinion. >____>

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit... we have actually hit the point of a Snapefan saying not only that Snape's bullying of children was excusable or okay, but that IT DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN.

I feel like I should be collecting on a bet right now, but I didn't have the foresight to make one.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Could do a drinking game instead. Just don't die.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Do you lack reading comprehension?

I'm not denying he was an asshole, I'm denying that he was an asshole BECAUSE of any belief in full-blood superiority.

This is why everyone fucking hates Snapefen.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
And he happily let Draco have a go at her every chance he got, even when Lucius Malfoy himself obliquely pointed out Draco was only screwing himself over being so openly spiteful and racist.

"He stood to gain nothing personally but the triumph of the cause Lily had believed in. He was trying to do right."

-- J.K. Rowling

Yeah he died for Lily's cause but I'm sure he was still a racist you guys.

Tbf, it's entirely possible he only got angry because that's the word that finally cost him Lily.
