It works on everyone who doesn't have underlying medical issues that keep it from working -- issues they might not even know about.

I mean, it works on them too, it's just the damage outweighs the benefit there.

Though lets be honest, you for all intents and purposes effectively don't see these conditions existing outside the west. Not may Koreans, Chinese, or Japanese afflicted. Must be their superior genes right.

Fat leg beard detected

What color did you choose to dye your hair to draw attention away from your three chins?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
What's a tedora? Is that like a fedora for teddy bears?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fat with leg hair, yes. Double chin, even. But I'm secure enough in my worth as a human being to not worry about "drawing attention away" from anything. My hair is it's natural color, sensibly cut.

How often are you a jerk on the internet to draw your own attention away from how sad you are in your own life?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Why are you trying to prove your worth as a human being to an obvious troll?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not trying to prove anything.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
You answered. Why?

Yeah those too, not many fat dalit.

The change to Mexican diet with requisite explosion in obesity is also a useful demonstration of this my historian friend.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
It works on everyone. No matter what your medical issues are, you will lose weight if you decrease your intake.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Lie. If you decrease it too much, you will maintain -- OR GAIN -- as your body tries to keep you safe on minimal food. It's irresponsible to say "If you cut intake you'll lose weight!" without at the very least adding the words "a sensible amount" to your comment.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Starvation mode is a myth. Of course crash diets aren't healthy and they shouldn't be tried by anyone, but they still make you lose weight.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
+1, but it is surprising how much the 'starvation mode' argument comes up, even on boards that work with healthy weightloss. But, on the one hand, it does seem to deter the people who will try to get away with eating only 600 cals.

However, the anon above who wants the "a sensible amount" appended to this advice - this seems like a thing that goes without saying, and yet we always seem to have to say to everyone "obviously, only do this to a sensible amount." Why isn't the "sensible amount" a given?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
> Starvation mode

That's why there all those fat people in the concentration camps, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Untrue. I got really sick for a few months and had trouble eating much of anything and keeping it down. I ended up losing nearly 30 pounds as a result.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Weight yes, fat no. Your body is going to eat something, but if medical conditions keep you from burning fat then there's lots of important tissues it can devour instead. Fun!

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
What medical conditions would these be and what tissues would they use instead of fat?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Muscle is the tissue your body "eats" for nutrients when its not getting what it needs.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
And what medical condition would make your body eat muscles instead of fat?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT, but the body always prefers to eat fat first. It will move on to muscle when there is very little body fat left.

This is not something I need to worry about at the moment - I have excess fat to fuel my workouts!

ffs we're talking about two separate things here, not some mythical illness that makes your body go "Pfft. I'll nosh on this muscle over here, forget that fat!"

Medical conditions that can make CICO not apply include chronic stress, Cushing's syndrome, PCOS and hypothyroidism. Not to mention a variety of medications -- often types of birth control and depression meds -- that also hurt the body's ability to lose weight by the Calories In, Calories Out mantra.

And breaking down muscle is just something the body does when it's undernourished for long periods, as often happens when people hear "calories in, calories out is all it takes!" and unknowingly take it to stupid levels.
