Me too! Like 100 times me too! I don't like his mouth all that much but I can forgive that because of how awesome the character and performance and uniforms were (also I see little Fassbender in the background)!

He has awful lines around his mouth, though. If they get any bigger, he'll look like Homer Simpson.

Damnit. Now I can't unsee.

Also, what is that the result of? Just how his face formed or from something like too much frowning?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're laugh lines.

I agree.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
But he always kinds of looks the same, doesn't he? I mean, he's not one of those actors that really transforms his physical appearance for roles.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP
Probably a combo of the uniform, hair, and svelte-ness.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-02-18 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, considering he's practically the only character who gets any characterization in BoB I'm not sure I blame you. I think my SO had a mild crush on him in that too lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You don't think Lipton, Nixon, Eugene, Malarky or Buck had any characterization?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-02-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Considering I was still getting their names confused (well, actually maybe not Malarky, he might be a slight exception) by the end of the series, which we binge watched... yes.

Yes, if they're not distinct enough for me to tell them apart by the end, the writers didn't do a good enough job with characterization. I didn't have this problem with The Pacific or Generation Kill.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Or you weren't paying enough attention, maybe? All of those characters are recognizable and name-checked a lot.

Really? I don't find that at all. I think they did rather well with giving the characters distinct personalities -- especially Nixon, Harry Welsh, Speirs, and Lipton (although I admit it took several rewatches for me to be able to distinguish between all of them).

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-02-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe if I had watched it more than once I would have been able to tell the characters apart. As it stood with one watching... Winters was/is the only one I can pick out.

If that's what the writers were going for, I can appreciate the kind of storytelling that evokes a sense of chaos and depersonalization of fellow man... but I didn't really get the sense that that's what they meant to do, you know?

Like I said, in TP and GK this was not a problem. The characters were highly distinct.

Not saying I didn't like BoB. It was great. Well produced, incredible cinematography, engaging storyline, good atmosphere... it just sort of failed to make me notice or remember anyone but Winters.

I ate so much fruit while I was watching Life. I don't really have anything else to contribute here, other than that was a good show, and he did look pretty good in it.

Yeah. I mean, I do find him really attractive as Winters. But Charlie...woof. He was really magnetic in that show and he and his partner were just so good together.

Love him on that show. I tried rewatching it on Netflix, but they've replaced all the music and the music on that show was so, so good.

Oh, yes! Yassen/Alex UNF

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember him from The Forsyte Saga where he was so damn unlikable.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, Soames was a total piece of shit. It was a real shift of gears to see him as Dick Winters after that, who is almost saintly. I guess that's down to Damian Lewis being an excellent actor.
