One of my friends told me to watch that recently, but yeah, I don't really enjoy pot humour either.

I didn't enjoy Girls. Idk. I couldn't really identify with any of the 'girls'. It wasn't some enlightening feminist experience for me.

I struggle to enjoy anything without likeable or interesting characters. I've lost interest in Shameless completely because the writing is so terrible that all the characters are just horrible for no reason. I remember in the earlier seasons they would do a lot of shitty things, but everyone was trying to keep the bills paid and food on the table, and now they don't care about each other so I don't either.

Consistently interesting characters will keep me hooked. I've just watched five seasons of Justified and I'm still excited for season 6.

OMG GIRLS! A friend and I decided to start watching it together and we are basically just watching it now to see how much worse the characters can get. We've gotten through the first four episodes and hate all of them. We spend the whole time yelling at the TV.

I can take Broad City in small doses, basically when it's on in the background of me doing work/reading.

It gets too cringey for me to even enjoy hate-watching it.

I have a few shows like that. I'll watch it if I'm not just sitting there glued to the screen, but if I start paying attention I stop liking it.

Oh and we were fast forwarding the awkward sex scenes because they are incredibly painful to watch. So yeah, I get why you wouldn't watch it and I only find it amusing watching it with a friend so we're both throwing commentary at it.

No.

Again, only four episodes in. It's bad. And I'm not all about super romantic sex scenes or porn level sex, but this is just awkwardly bad.

And I live outside of NYC so I can relate to the struggle of being in NYC but not the way they go about it. Mostly we complain about how terrible they all are. Except Marnie and Hannah's friendship, but still 4 episodes in and Marnie just threw her drink at Hannah, so we'll see how this goes. We are going to continue hate-watching until it gets really bad.

Haha. I was confused. They're supposed to be a group of friends, but I don't know if these people actually like each other or they just hang out because nobody else puts up with their shit.

Ugh. The whiny one that just wants people to suddenly see how amazing she is and give her money. The main one. That is not how life works.

I couldn't really see what they were trying to make the audience feel about the sex scenes other than awkward/uncomfortable/a little bit bored.

Yeah and how in the beginning when her parents decide they aren't going to pay for her anymore and she freaks out about getting a real job? My friend and I both just looked at each like, what is she smoking?

I have a friend who has dreams of dancing/acting. So she found a job performing at kid's parties on weekends and because she's so good at it, she only works weekends and then spends the rest of her week auditioning. You can make it work! It just takes a lot of drive and ambition!

I feel bad for Charles, hate Ray, and don't get wtf Adam is doing. Why is Hannah with him? She gives him this whole speech about not wanting a boyfriend and then they awkwardly get together because he only wants sex.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha

wait. not done.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yep. Indeed. Reality check, your parents are nearing retirement age and you are a perfectly capable adult with an education and a pair of hands, why should they continue to let you take their money?
Just, when she gets so shocked and upset. Like please. Really?

The male characters were pretty unmemorable. I forgot who that guy was until I saw Star Wars promos and I was like ohh he looks familiar.

When do you feel that Shameless gets bad? I've watched the first three seasons and I found it really good (writing included), but I've been hesitating to start on S4 because I kind of got the feeling that it was about to hit that "cynical mess" phase some shows hit, where all the hopeful and beautiful things go out of the narrative and all that's left is this attitude like, "life is shitty and people are all shitty, there is just no end to the shittiness."

I don't want to spoil it if you still want to watch, I mean, I tried to stick with it. I really did. I was still invested in some characters. Things go to shit early on and get worse. My reactions were like

"what are you doing
WHAT ARE YOU DOING
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING"

but without the optimistic vibes from the earlier seasons.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head though. I feel like the writers were trying to spice things up and ended up just fucking everyone over. They're not the same characters to me. I was hoping things were going to turn around but from what I know about season 5 (haven't seen most of it) it just... doesn't. This is an opinion, and I'm sure lots of people still enjoy it.

I've watched most of the first season and a few episodes after that. I don't related to any of the girls specifically. It's too narrow of a perspective, even if she is just making fun of/sympathizing with a generation. I do relate to being on the go and not having established myself yet and being looked down on as some kind of incomplete adult. Though I work two paying jobs, pay for school and attend grad classes.

Painfully I can relate to having bad relationships with men, though not necessarily mirroring any of the relationships featured in the show. It's sad that I think Adam is really nice to her, isn't it? I don't even like the characters and even think some of the dialogue is borderline racist, but I do relate to the fractured relationships they have. I also think most people in their twenties are abhorrently selfish like they are.

Yeah, I feel like the show maybe highlighted too many negative aspects of relationships and the social pressures of being 20something. I watch TV to escape reality, not dwell in it.

Does that feeling of not being a proper adult ever go away?

I honestly don't remember much about Adam in the show. It took me some googling to work out where I knew him from when people were talking about him in Star Wars.
