Japan Vs the rest of the world

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly want to know: What, if anything, can be done about the whole Japan vs the UN on gendered violence and aggression in media? I mean, if there anything that can get them to break from their current social patterns? Cause I honestly don't think there is.

Take a break for a week or so.

Is this an actual issue or are you just trolling and pretending that gendered violence in media is a specifically Japanese problem?

Or is the UN the one that's making it an issue by pretending that?

We (as in we, the rest of the world) should start creating stories where Japanese characters are abused, raped and tortured.

That will show them how it feels. Take that, Japan!

You're late, hentai and yaoi already exists

I'm reminded of the old and now thoroughly out of date phrase "You can't rape the willing"

Perhaps "Too kinky to torture" fits better?

Fact is there's nothing you can do to Japan worse than what iit does to itself.

Your samefag detector is broken, m8. That was my first and only post on this thread (this is my second!).

Short of literal war, no. Nothing will make Japan reconsider it's fucked up values. Japan is the Anti-sweden.

Gonna have to call North Korea the anti-Sweden.

Sweden is the Anti-Sweden. Sweden is a dystopia with good publicity that makes it even more dystopic.

This is probably a radfem post but it's surprisingly a good question worthy of discussion.

To be honest I'm not sure anything can be done by the west or the UN. It'd take Japan itself changing its culture, and let's be honest, it's got so many issues that gendered violence is just one part of a bigger problem.

This is only a valid point if you're willing to apply the same standard to Islam.

And any religion because they all have their conservative strains. And a whole lot of atheists too. Islam isn't unique any more than Japan is.

The thing is, I don't think it is Japan vs. the rest of the world. Because most countries have their own gender issues. Some are worse than others, and Japan is definitely one of the worst, but every country has its issues on gender and I don't think we should be focusing all our attention on just one country's problems.

But Japan isn't one of the worst. Not by a long shot.

You're right that every country has gender issues. Japan has a lot. But women are legally equal class citizens and have every right that men have. While women are underrepresented, definitely, they do absolutely exist in high level business positions and government. Japan has a fairly low crime rate, and while rape is certainly underreported, it's no worse than, say, America, and rape is still prosecuted as a crime. Abortion rights are accepted.

Japan has a lot of work to do, but they are also making great strides. There is a long list of countries where women "have it worse". Maybe women aren't doing that great compared to other highly developed, first-world economic super-power countries, but it really depends on the issue.

In a world where honor killing is still a thing, Japan is one of the worst? I don't even think Japan is the worst in our area of the world, unless you only mean gendered issues in media.

I thought the thread was talking about gender issues in media. Guess I was wrong. In that case, no, Japan is not one of the worst though it does have issues same as any country and maybe more than some others but also less than others.

I'm confused because I haven't heard about this.

When you say "current social patterns" are you talking about real-life gendered violence, or are you talking about entertainment media that does not involve actual humans? Or both?

Telling the Japanese what they should do never tends to work out that well.

Pretty sure the only reason they still eat whale is a fuck you to everyone telling them to stop doing it.

But in this case it's certainly for the better. The approach to someone advising banning of media should always be to tell them to piss off.

Except Elvis. If someone had stopped that guy, we wouldn't all be such moral degenerates.
