I try not to be one about anything but I would say I probably fail most with fantasy books.

Food. I'm picky and judgmental about it in pretty much every way and it drives my family up the wall.

Re: elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-03-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Couples who share an email address, facebook account, etc. It just gives me major Stepford vibes. The hypocrisy is that I excuse elderly couples because I assume for them, it's that it's more that one of them uses it most of the time, and/or they don't really use the internet the way younger couples do.

The thing is, however, there's actually a LOT of people that applies to. There's still people my age who can just barely send one. Not many are that extreme, but they do exist.

Re: elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-03-14 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug* I have a joint e-mail address with my husband, but we maintain several separate ones as well. Having a joint one is good for stuff like booking hotel reservations, giving out to people you don't know well, signing up for stuff you both want alerts for, etc. It's just an e-mail address, dude. It's the even less commitment than say, sharing an umbrella.

Re: elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-03-14 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really raise an eyebrow at the joint email thing, because sometimes it's easier for family contacts/etc than trying to remember to email both in case the other forgets to remind them (especially for invitations to things).

The namesquish Facebooks kind of have me o_Oing only because Facebook was so RARR for a while about names (even wanting Drag Queens and stuff to use their 'real' name) that knowing SueandBob Smith can get away with it when SueandBob is clearly not a name bugs me a little.

People who talk about issues they clearly haven't researched. I'm less bothered by people who disagree with me than I am by people who are trying to argue something and insisting they are right when they haven't looked into all the sides and come to a reasoned decision.

I'm a snobby prick about most things, tbh. I'll instinctively hate entire fandoms even when I'm a part of them too.

Pokemon. I try not to be, but other snobby Pokemon fans get under my skin and I want to turn my nose up and pretend I'm better than them too!

Crafts, when somebody is selling the things they craft. I know a girl who does cross-stitch and all she does is write phrases from films and put them in a pre-made frame. Literally anyone could do that and I find it pretty galling that she's actually charging money for them.

I go on a forum with a lot of people maybe in their late 30s-early 40s, either way, you can tell they didn't grow up engaged with internet sentence vernacular.

So it's a lot of "WOW......I was going to buy this toy but not anymore!!! you lost a sale !! " kind of like those screenshots you see of middle aged people on Facebook with "LOL say hi to aunt debra for us!!!!!!!"

I don't expect absolute perfection, and I know standards vary from place to place, but that honestly irritates me to death.

Dinosaurs. Quit skin wrapping them, quit giving them pronated hands, and give them the proper skin coverings (feathers, quills, whatever). Also, birds ARE dinosaurs.

Booze in general and wine in particular. I'm not the type who thinks that high price = quality, but I get so annoyed when people assume that anything sparkling is fancy champagne and I immediately assume they're an idiot.

I realize that this is a Mary in Season 1 of Downton thing to get mad about, but whatever

Music. I know, I know, people should listen to whatever makes them happy. Most of the time I subscribe to this, but occasionally I have a dark moment and wonder why the fuck people don't listen to genuine musicians and stop giving their money to samey generic bullshit.

I've gotten over feeling elitist about vidya (though I do feel vaguely disappointed when someone introduces themselves as an "avid gamer" and all they play are mobile games, but that's because I thought we might have something in common and we don't).

So I guess all that's left is pullups. Kipping pullups aren't pullups. Chinups aren't pullups. Pullups should be done from a dead hang, or they don't count, either.

I have very few fucked up/squicky kinks. Like, bordering on none. So I do judge a lot of the squicky/fucked up shit some fans are into. Though I tend to keep my judgement to myself for the most part, with a couple exceptions.

Re: elitism

(Anonymous) 2016-03-15 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Major network TV shows. I mean the stuff on ABC, CBS, NBC. And to a lesser degree, FOX and The CW.

I only judge people if they only watch shows on these networks. Because man, there is a lot of good television out there right now, and IMO very little of it is on these networks. IMO most (though not all) of the stuff on the "big three" networks is like the intellectual equivalent of eating a twinkie. I can understand why sometimes a twinkie is what you want. But if that's all a person watches, that just makes me think they are categorically unable to appreciate more complex and substantial stories.

Table manners. I hate it when people use a knife and fork like shovels or hold them like gorillas or something. It's *not that hard* to use a knife and fork properly, jeez.

Chatspeak. Just spell out the damn word. You're hitting a button, it's not that hard to hit a few more and actually type out "you" or "Be right back."

Sure, I love me a couple acronyms, but when you're typing entire paragraphs, or worse stories, in Chatspeak, I'm going to snob you, and snob you hard.
