Childhood habits you (thankfully?) grew out of?
When I was younger I used to chew on my hair and shirt collar. No idea why, but in retrospect it was really gross. The tips of my hair would get all wet and slobbery (ad did my shirt collar). Thankfully I just chewed and didn't eat my hair. Eventually my parents got me a short haircut so I grew out of it.
And only in the past 2-3 years have I been able to stop my habit of chewing my nails off. That was a hard won battle!
Re: Childhood habits you (thankfully?) grew out of?
ETA: I also still bite my nails....but fortunately not my shirt anymore.

I used to cough without covering my mouth unless I was sick or standing right in front of someone. I had a constant asthma cough when I was younger so I would cough pretty much all the time while I was playing sports or walking or in class or trying to sleep, so it just seemed disruptive to raise my arm that much. I realised people don't know I'm not horribly contagious so it wasn't really socially acceptable.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)I also used to sit on the edge of my bed, put on music, and rock back and forth. It helped me to focus on the music and daydream. It looked really weird and screwed up my mattresses.
I didn't grow out of that until I moved out of the house after high school. Moved into a dorm, didn't want to do that where people could see (and ruin beds!), so I went out for walks instead. It is far healthier all around and I still get to jam out and daydream. 8)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 02:46 am (UTC)(link)I usually wouldn't even notice I'd started doing it until she said something, either. XD

I also did this thing where I'd hold my favorite stuffed animal really close and rub the soft, fuzzy part of the tag on that spot of skin between my upper lip and nose. I don't even know why I did that, but I did it for years. I didn't actually lose that habit until we were in Croatia and I accidentally left my teddy bear in a dorm room somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I didn't have any other stuffed animals that gave me the same effect, so at that point I just stopped.
