People always react with more disgust to cross-generational incest than to sibling incest.

Well, almost always, but Supernatural fandom is a terrifying place.

Are there a lot of people in the Supernatural fandom who ship Sam or Dean with John or Mary, though?

That sucks, nonny. I've definitely had ships like that before (like Elizabeth/Booker from Bioshock) and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's just fiction

IDK the fandom but father/daughter anything makes me feel physically ill. I'm not shocked that people aren't happy with you. I know "it's just fiction" but abuse is too gross for me and I can't seperate it from real life shit that actually does happen and screws people up.

Intensely disliking father/daughter incest or other abusive dynamics is absolutely fine! Shitting on people who do for whatever reason like them, and decide to write them and properly label them is not fine. This is one of those cases where "don't like, don't read" wholly applies.

In this case, where they apparently don't know each other (?), I find it less icky than brothers that know each other and were raised as such.

I obviously don't know the characters involved, and I'd read neither, as I don't care for incest; however, I'd find the father/daughter incest where they never knew each other and had no familial relationship developed way less creepy than incest between two brothers who grew up together.

I understand why the OP didn't put the fandom (tiny fandom obviously) but... I just... I want to know so badly...

Cross-generational incest never fails to read squicky as fuck in a way that sibling incest doesn't. Sorry, OP, but the fandom's right on this one.

Honestly, parent/child is way more of a squick to me than sibling/sibling, and I don't think I'm alone. I don't care for either of them though.

People have already touched on the difference in squick factor between agemate incest and parent/child incest, but in my experience, dudeslash incest is received a lot better than het incest in fandom. Because...idk, think of the hypothetical fictional incest babies that authors aren't going to write unless they have a very specific kink? If it was father/son, you'd still get some flak, but not nearly as much.

if you really don't get the difference between two brothers of fairly equal social footing, and a parent-child relationship which inherently has a major inequity in power, I dunno what to tell you

Sibling relationships, even between brothers, usually have a power inequality, too.
