When virtually every single fic for a rare fandom is a crossover, and the characters from that fandom barely appear in it.

Tagging too much, of course.

Personally, I hate when I read a great summary then open the story to find out it is a first person fic. I can't stand reading first person fic.

Explicit rated fics with Teen rated sex scenes (or Explicit rated sex scenes in Teen rated fics).

People spelling soldier as solider. That is probably the most misspelled word I see in fics (then again, I read a lot of fics that would use that word).

Steve Rodgers.

Nicknames that are never used in canon yet somehow manage to replace characters' names.

Not tagging pairings.

God damn it, I don't want your incest pairing even if it is one of the three contenders for most popular fandom pairing. I do not enjoy it, ma'am.

Characters that are so different from the canon characters they are unrecognizable. AUs where the characters share nothing but a name with the canon characters. Romances where the author clearly stuck the characters into expected roles and stereotypes rather than actually thinking through how these particular characters would act together.

Multiple POVs for a single scene.
Making a character who was not one in the canon being a rapist/abusive/etc.
Soulmate AUs.
Repeatedly referring to characters by the color of their hair.

Additional to most of what's already been said: Not using the normal, common tags for a thing and making up new ways to tag the thing all the time. It's a pain to filter it (I have about 15 different versions of m-preg related tags blacklisted and I still find new ones).

Or not tagging for something just because you think the thing is so common and accepted, you don't need to tag for it anymore.

Giant multiparters where each part is set in a different fandom and is only loosely connected to the others and - AND every single fandom, pairing and character is tagged.

Major pet peeve: when these fics feature a mix of large and small fandoms, and so dominate the top of the kudos filter for the small fandoms.

OOC-ness ( a little is okay, but if I can't imagine the character even saying that sentence, it's not fine)

multitagging

changing canon characters to a minority for brownie points.

When an author writes a set of 500 tiny drabbly things and posts all of them as separate fics or a series and then you get two solid AO3 pages with nothing but their stuff. At least wait a few days between posting or something!

Random AUs.

Awkward typos that break the mood. I read an Avengers fic where the author somehow replace "lab" with "lap" throughout the whole thing. Several serious moments were interrupted by someone coming into Bruce or Tony's lap...

It bugs me SO much in non-canon pairing fic when characters who are, in canon, very professional and/or generally adhere strictly to the principle of of "don't let your personal life override your serious responsibilities to others," and have always acted thusly when it comes to their canon friendship and their canon other love interests, suddenly become tantrum-throwing unprofessional babies who care more about the state of their love life than the wellbeing of people who depend on them, or who do dangerous work for them and trust them, or who it is their job to protect and help.

This doesn't make the characters' love seem more important or special or amazing. It just makes the characters look like unlikable selfish shits until I have no interest in rooting for them to be happy.

Untagged Stucky.

...Okay, untagged any pairing is annoying, but Stucky is my NoTP, and it's goddamn everywhere, to the point where people assume they don't need to label it if it isn't the primary pairing.

- There's this one author, Anon sighed. - Who writes all their dialogue like this. Instead of using proper punctuation. And it's a small fandom, so it's extra frustrating.

Making usually stoic characters into weepy, cuddly, clingy messes. And writing the characters around them being totally cool with this strange behavior.

Like, I don't think Bucky, or Steve, or Tony, or Natasha, or really anyone in the MCU has regular cuddle sessions with people they aren't romantically involved with? People who are chill with curling up in bed/on the couch with platonic friends are few and far between.

So many fucking post-Winter Soldier fic where we get long, loving descriptions about the rape and torture Bucky went through. Fuck that. Back-button city.

American-centric shows (like Teen Wolf or Supernatural) having the characters 'take the piss', talk about their 'mum', get things from 'the boot', and wear 'jumpers'. Make an effort, people.

Kidfic wherein the parents either spout pages of parenting books/articles/wtf ever, or helicopter every second or sit around angsting about what a terrible parent they are 24/7. All the kids in *all* these fics. Have fanfiction writers *never* been around a live child? Ever?

And in what universe do best friends tease their other best friends so relentlessly about their love life (or lack thereof) so as to make them feel like shite? Or siblings, for that matter? Wow, is that lame.

Infantilization of adult characters.

Especially in the Hobbit fandom. Fili and Kili may be younger than most of the other dwarves, but they are still adult dwarves. Sadly, in a huge number of fics they are portrayed as if they were kids who are 8 to 12 years old, and not even realistic kids.

The two things I wish people would tag, so I could just filter them the fuck out:
Incest
RPF

Write what you like! Read what you like! But let me find something to read without having to refine my search terms like -"bandom" -"hockey" -"One Direction" -"K-pop"... on and on and on...

I hate reader fic. I like what reader fic represents, which is women finally being comfortable expressing their own interests, but personally, I hate reader fic, so much. In my current fandom, reader shipping is literally the most popular pairing, above all of the other cañon pairings, it suuuuuucks. I hate going for some cute hurt/comfort for my favorite characters and having to scroll past fic after fic of weepy OCs.
