Getting bitchy over people talking about how sweet Sandy is is kind of dumb Yeah, she can't act (or sing, or dance), but that doesn't really matter-- she was in one SPN episode, for all five minutes and then got shot.

What's more important is that according to the people who have met her, she's gracious and sweet to fans and apparently makes Jared happy. What other reason do you have to have?

5. It's not suffering, Juri/Utena has major subtext. They are the OTP in Utena fandom for me.

Eh, I think the title suffixes should be left at the door when the manga is in a place different where the language assumed isn't "Japanese", but sometimes you need footnotes to demonstrate an accurate relationship. Especially when certain canons are about the history and social structure like feudal Japan.

03 - Sounds similar to my problem. I didn't realize I shipped the out-there pairings until I got into anime. Mostly because as bizarre as they may have been in the real world... they were canon.

12 - I'm sure you don't care, but I rather enjoyed the presentation of this secret. "Nothing to see here... Move along."

16 - Most definitely not the same thing... but I know exactly what you mean. I have the same 'betrayal' issues with old dead things, and it makes me sad. Like, by some miracle maybe they'll come back.

17 - Yeah... That sucks. I spend my entire 'relationship' with people trying not to be you. which... Probably just makes me selfish, because in the end one or the other (usually both) of us does get hurt. but I like my friends....

Yes, the story is in Japanese, but when it's translated to English -especially- if it's an English-speaking origin (i.e. FMA) it drives me insane. Maybe it's just because I don't like the way they sound thrown into English... If you want to use honorifics go the Fruits Basket anime route and translate them Honda-san = Miss Honda.

I also hate when manga are just translated in a lazy fashion period. I don't understand how you can publish something like that.

51- But Zack's concept art had that scar; Zack's always had the scar. That was a part of his original design, along with the slightly longer, spikier hair than he started with.

I can understand not being as into FF7/Crisis Core as Kenshin if that's a fandom or show you prefer, but it's really not that unusual to have a cross-shaped scar on the cheek in manga, anime or video games. I can think of at least three other examples off of the top of my head; namely, Geo AND Ferio, in Magic Knight Rayearth and Glenn in Chrono Cross. There are probably others, but I can't think of them and I don't want to be a big wanker. Just wanted to point out that Zack had the scar before, too!

26. I completely agree. Buttercup and Wesley had me had me at "I love you more now than I had loved you an hour ago" conversation. It's not "true love" in the traditional sense, that's for sure. I think William Goldman probably meant for it to be a satire on the fairy tale love, since it's unrealistic and downright absurd sometimes, and yet, I still want a Wesley of my own :-P

#58: I don't know who you are, but I have to say that you are ABSOLUTELY right. I've played every KH game, several Final Fantasies and countless other RPGs and DK2 is STILL one of my favorite games. (And one of the hardest games I've ever played! HOLY SHIT!)

Dude... i'm so feeling you right now. I'm so mad at Tokyopop's Fruits basket translation right now because they are leaving things like "tou-san" and "ji-san" in the 'translation'. I pay good money for the "official English translation" and expect it to be in ENGLISH. Is that really so much to ask for? I mean, it IS my money here.

If i wanted to read it in fantard, i'd download the scanslations, not buy it from the legit guys. I'm guessing they're not aware that most fanfic that uses random Japanese for no reason is kinda looked down upon.

I think perhaps we should all look at the messages our culture is giving us about the value of women, and examine what sexist ideas we may have internalized. I don't believe that sex/gender determines personality, yet I prefer my male characters. That's a signal of some shifty subconscious hang-ups, I think.

Honorifics are hard to translate because "san" is not equivalent to Mr/Miss all the time.

Translations are not easy to make, and it is the translator's choice - either way, some people will be happy, and some people won't.

I actually don't mind the honorifics disappearing, but if you don't want the honorifics, you have to chose between Mr. and nothing. And when some random student is going out with someone older, and call them "Lover-san", I don't think Mr. Lover works. At all. Cut the honorifics, please. More choices to make for the translators...

However, it annoys me when translators decide everyone will now use everyone else's first name instead of last name - although it is more common in English to call each other by our first names. It just... doesn't fit.
