I'm not sure why, but all of the "I would like assertive female character if only she just had a penis, but I hate her just because she's a girl" secrets are depressing me.

GitS: The Franchise is brilliant any way you look at it. I found myself writing for this series last year and dealing with the same emotions.

The original movie was one of the first bits of anime I can clearly remember watching, and I've been crazy about it ever since. And when I picked up my pen and started thinking, really thinking, about Ishikawa and Batou, the rest of section 9 and the Major....

Especially the Major! She's a figure I've loved and cherished for so long. How do you write about someone who's been your hero for over a decade?

I was finally able to settle down and focus, but you were totally right, the finished product wasn't even a sliver as good as the canon.

I know the feeling. My maths teacher looks exactly like the Doctor. It's distracting, to say the least.

2: No, it really won't be better than canon. I've read in this fandom, you know. Sure KH isn't great art or anything (though I do think it's a good story), but the fandom is in a sorry state. Half of it hates the Disney characters with a frightening fervour, while the other half love them with an equally terrible zeal. None of the extemes really invites discussion, and the fanfic suffers as a result. The OOC is all-encompassing.

4: Of course, if they had been reversed, the story would have been a rather transgressive piece about the strong, taciturn heroine who slowly learns to care for the sheltered and spoilt, but still loving and idealistic (though slightly incompetent) young man she has to take care of and protect. When was the last time you saw a story like that?

Unfortunately, certain roles still really are different depending on who plays it. Not that it makes it all right to hate the next female character in the clichéd role, of course. I can understand how people will be tired of it, and still delight in the same role filled by a man, though. In an equal society this wouldn't be the case, but that sort of society is still a distant dream.

47: Are you serious? I love that about him; it's like watching a certain type of melodramatic anime, only he's the only larger-than-life character. I actually think it works for him too, as long as you don't take it too seriously. XD

20. Oh, okay. But team Hebi is there for back-up and tracking purposes and god knows what (or Sasuke), they will die sometime, because I think they are as characters quite.. unimportant. I think so. But I like Suigetsu, he's funny .. :(

03. Funny story, I was 'saved' before I even learned about Gurren Lagann. And it was other people who did it. Maybe I was just lucky enough to find the right crowd, but my advice to you would be to seek salvation in other people, not fandoms. Unless it's the friends you make via fandom, of course.

Of course, now that I've written THAT I am now struck by the fact that whatever comm that seems to be about 'boobjections' may not be as serious as the OP makes it sounds, and maybe this is all just some big, elaborate prank. But in any case, I stand by my word: finding a place to hang with people to hang out with is awesome.

I would say your secret is silly and add "oh what difference does it make when characters are of another gender", but, honestly: there are a fair amount of characters out there I maybe would find more interesting if they possessed a different set of chromosomes. So, I'll just leave your personal preferences alone today. Come to think of it, that sounds like a good thing to do in general.

18. Maybe you're biased because of the glut of poorly written porn out there, and have come to associate smut with works of worse quality than what you're aiming for? Maybe you're just not interested in exploring sexual themes in your work? Maybe you're a prude? Could be a lot of reasons. May even be several!

I've seen so many that any new ones just prompt me silently going "YES I GET IT YOU WANT TO SEX/HAVE A RELATIONSHIP THAT TRASCENDS TRADITIONAL NORMS WITH OPTIMUS PRIME, I GET IT, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE". But then it strikes me that perhaps I am in the minority, and the reason people post them is because OTHERS care,and care too much. So the only outlet these people have becomes F!S... which is kinda sad, actually. And not really a reason to love them anymore. They're not, in my mind, a display of open minds and tolerance, but of people who are too afraid to tell the truth.

Is it a bad thing that when I think of those two, instead of reveling in the tragedy and tension and romance, the image my mind instead conjures is Akio using his Stupid Sexy Seduction powers to hypnotize Mitsuru into marriage for Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain-reasons, and when her friends arrive to bust down the ceremony Junpei holds everyone back until the priest comes to the whole "Speak now or forever hold your peace" part because that's what you're supposed to do in those situations?

Yes. Yes I do believe that is bad. Pardon to all you seriousminded roleplayers out there, who work hard to fashion touching and heartrending relationshps between your characters, but I can't help but corrupt these things until they have reached maximum stupidity. I am sorry.

Also, Minato would totally fail at delivering a dramatic "THAT GROOM IS NOT A GENTLEMAN"-speech. He'd just... stand there and go "We'd like Mitsuru-sempai back now. Please stop your evil plot." in that deadpan way and everyone would facepalm.

2) I feel the exact same way (with that fandom even!) Though I do put Babylon-5 above Ghost in the Shell, they both are fandoms I will not read, write, have anything to do with because they are too perfect on their own, I'm completely content with canon.

38) Sometimes I think our brains get horror and disgust and attraction and hottness confused. Well at least mine does. The stronger the turn-off, the more likely it will suddenly switch into a turn-on. At least as far as fiction is concerned.
