(Rick and Morty)

I don't think the conclusion you're reaching is valid here. I don't see any reason to think that people in this case are necessarily acting on the same impulses that fandom does generally. Or even that the two groups of people are essentially similar. I mean, I feel like it's probably the case that Rick and Morty has a very distinctive fanbase, you know?

I don't know, man, it just seems like a reach.

That's...not how shipping works.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom is shipping two main characters together, news at seven.

The two main characters of a TV show are white men, news at seven.

Correlation isn't causation all the time. I seriously doubt anybody is going "they're related... one's underage... I actually hate underage incest... but they're white men, so I must overcome my squick of underage incest and ship them."

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
More like old man dick and boy dick lol. Also, I don't watch this show but isn't the family Latino?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Rick's surname is Sanchez but Morty's surname is Smith. I figure white-hispanic if anything.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Rick (the scientist main character) has the last name Sanchez.

On the other hand, his ethnicity is extremely hard to track because he's an insane interdimensional scientific genius. And he - as well as his daughter and the rest of the family - are voiced by white actors, and... I mean, maybe this is unfair, but they come across as the most whitebread characters imaginable.

So, draw your own conclusions, but I don't think you would be wrong if you identified them as white.

There's a theory Sanchez is just a cover for his real last name.

Slightly OT

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-09-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
How does Big Hero 6 fit into the "white-cock" model? The underage incestuous pairing people are constantly shipping in that one is between Asian-Americans.

Re: Slightly OT

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It fits because they don't look Asian enough (in the opinions I recall from the wank over that movie).

Re: Slightly OT

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Asians are honorary whites according to Tumblr, they don't count as PoC.

Yeah, but if they had darker skin, I'm betting less people would get off to it. That's where colorism comes in.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I see fans bending backwards all the time to try to get white guys shipped, even if they have almost no dialogue or scenes together. So this doesn't surprise me.

I am fairly new to watching this show, so I must ask: who would you ship? Morty and his sister? Rick and Morty's sister? Morty's mom and Unity? Morty's teacher and a second PoC you scrounged up somewhere?

(I think people are too intimidated by the hilarious brilliance of the show to try to write gen, so they just fall back on on the some old fuck tropes.)

I can't even like Dan Harmon anymore because of this gross show.

It could not possibly be because they are the protagonists.

Before I read anything else (including the warning) or looked at the image, I briefly thought the green text said Rick Moranis. The crash from elated to disappointed has never hit harder.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't believe it took this to make you realize that.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I would never ship this, but the whole emotional core of the show is "does Rick truly care about Morty and his family"?

the show runners even call it a "will they won't they" dynamic.

fandom doesn't know how to replicate the tension without making it about sex, especially younger fans. that, if anything, is a bit disconcerning.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
While the ship is puke-worthy to me, I would say it has a whole lot to do with the fact that they're both main characters and they have a good repartee.

What other ships really are there, anyway?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-09-10 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
....I'm sorry, what?

I don't think this is about white dick so much as people being determined to find a way to slash everything.

No one is attractive in Rick & Morty. NO. ONE.

[personal profile] juliamon 2016-09-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone else has gone over the they're-the-main-characters point, but also have you considered that with how fucked-up the show and characters are, it makes twisted sense for the most popular ship to be the most fucked-up one? It feels perfectly in line with some of the other things the show has done (and would do if it weren't airing on TV, since incest/pedophilia is a bit too real compared to, say, group sex with a planet-wide hive mind).

It doesn't seem like a show where ANY of the ships would be 'ok' though since pretty much every main character is related, so I'm not sure what you were expecting from it. And if you're willing to dip into crossovers, there is PLENTY of non-incestuous, non-pedophilic stuff out there.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
um, I write Rick and Morty fic and there is no slashing between those two in anything I write. None.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-18 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Caveat that I don't ship it, but the whole show is based on a short which was a Back To The Future parody. Mharti had to lick Doc's balls to get to the future.

And the show has done blatant pedophile jokes that Rick/Morty over and over, and the creator said that it was likely that in one universe Rick/Morty is canon on twitter.

Not my thing at all, but the show feeds it to you constantly. I mean in ep two dream!Summer tries to get a "sexy intergenerational incestuous sandwich" going on.
