(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)I also remember one time we were watching a Letterman segment with one of those animal trainer people who bring various animals on. He brought some type of bird on and it was walking across the studio floor.
Our cat actually got up on the arm of the chair closest to the TV and tried to paw at the bird :D.
And there was a commercial for those Temptations cat treats that she was utterly FASCINATED by-the opening music alone was enough to get her attention, before it even showed the kitty or its food! And then she'd sit there and watch the whole thing. I don't know whether she was more interested in the cat or the food, but either way, that ad always got her attention.

If it happens constantly it is by definition not weird. Sure, you might think excretory supervision weird in a cultural context because it's a thing humans frown upon socially, but it's definitely not weird in a feline context. How else do you think kittens learn to use the litter box? They watched mum.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)And it's a moot point anyway because we're all coming from human culture and human mindsets and it is in no way incorrect, grammatically or otherwise, to call cat behavior weird, regardless of whether or not it's common. If it pings us as weird, it's weird.

She was a very weird animal.

Another liked to lick people faces and put his paws on my face to wake me up.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)The pup meanwhile...let's see...she has this little game of "LET'S STEAL THE HUMAN'S HAIR CLIPS." I have currently gone through about ten in various stages of chewed-up-ness.

Re: Pets watching TV
(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)When I'm watching kitten videos on YouTube, my cat will come running up as soon as she hears them meowing, and start frantically looking for them. (The odd thing is, she's never had kittens of her own, or been around kittens except her own littermates.)

Re: Pets watching TV
She also screams for attention if she wants it and nobody's giving it to her. Which, I'm guessing isn't actually that weird, but the older cat has never really done that, and the dog doesn't bark when she wants attention. (Actually, I'm convinced the older cat has started screaming to get attention because the younger one does & does it effectively. It's rare that the older one does it, but she is getting more vocal with age.)
