Which movie trends and cliches need to be retired?

I'm sick of superhero films. I wouldn't mind half as much if there were lots of other movies to see, but everything is the same few types and going to the cinema is boring these days. I miss the days of looking forward to a few films every month, not a few a year. The giant budget special effects spectacles just aren't my thing.

Do you ONLY go and see big budget movies? Sounds like you are the one causing your own problem.

as someone who's big into Marvel movies, I honestly agree. It's time to be done, folks.

Wilhelm scream. Takes me right out of the movie when I hear it.

I love it. It's strangely reassuring.

Haaaaaaaaahahahahaha. God yes. Get a new sound effect already, action/fantasy/sci-fi/animated movies!

It is pretty funny to hear it in the middle of a battle sequence though.

Superheroes, big budget action flicks that are all about the special effects, rom coms, computer-animated cartoons, and eye-rolling obvious Oscar bait.

Not sure what that would leave us with, though...

Torture porn. Saw, Hostel, etc. type movies. Seriously, society, we're better than this.

Every guy in the movie wearing fifty layers and the (single) woman in a tank and shorts.

Most every romance plot, 99 out of 100 are boring as hell.

Pregnant women ALWAYS HAVING THE BABY and/or abortion ALWAYS BEING TRAUMATIZING. So tired of it.

Stalking is romantic. Ugh. No. Just die already, you tired, terrible cliche.

Dudebro comedies. Seen one, seen 'em all. Boring. Please let everyone get sick of Franco, Rogen, and their lot so something better can take their place.

On that note: every comedy starring women has to be about romance/weddings or other stereotypical "girly" things. I'm hoping the new Ghostbusters film will help put an end to this, but only time will tell.

I hate the "stalking equals romantic" trope. It's really not romantic at all in real life, just creepy and a little scary.

I hate this one so much. Its cousin, "possessiveness and jealousy mean True Love" can go away with it.

Female character that is introduced in a movie = instant love interest.

Of course it's never going to happen but I can dream.

I'm generally kind of done with the big-budget action/thriller stuff -- and that includes everything from superhero films to, like, Sully. It's like the whole world's been taken over by Michael Bay.

Give me more low-key films like Drive.

White dude who's the protagonist solely because he's a white dude (or because his personality is White Dude and not much else).
Just makes things so boring.

Ugly/old/fat dudes getting hot chicks. like there's nothing wrong with it inherently, but there's way not enough of the reverse going on.

No means 'try harder'

"I'm a *LESBIAN* but Generic McWhitedude is sooooo manly I just can't stop myself from falling for him. This causes me only mild surprise and no time is spent on me coming to terms with my newfound fluid sexuality."

"My ex-wife and the legal system said I shouldn't be allowed access to my children. This is because they're just all catty bitches and when I comedically get around the restraining orders it'll prove what a devoted father I really am and end happily."

Accents = character type. (Southern = religious and dumb. AAVE = thug or uneducated. Louisiana = hillbilly, etc. )
