I'm sick of superhero films. I wouldn't mind half as much if there were lots of other movies to see, but everything is the same few types and going to the cinema is boring these days. I miss the days of looking forward to a few films every month, not a few a year. The giant budget special effects spectacles just aren't my thing.

Do you ONLY go and see big budget movies? Sounds like you are the one causing your own problem.

There are rarely any other options where I live. We only have one chain of cinemas within a 20 mile radius and so we're limited to what they have. It's mostly big budget Hollywood films and sometimes we get a single showing in a month of a small budget drama, usually from the 90s.

Same in my area....so I honestly just download them, stream them, torrent them. Hate to be illegal, but it's either that or paying 20$ for a digital copy.

as someone who's big into Marvel movies, I honestly agree. It's time to be done, folks.

Why? Honest question.

The movies are still doing well critically and financially. Audiences are still going to them in droves. In the case of Marvel, Disney tries different things every time (while still keeping them in tune with the rest of the universe).

The existence of superhero movies does nothing to stop other movies from being created. Smaller ("indie") movies still exist and actually seem to be increasing. If anything, the huge box offices of superhero movies (plus other "blockbusters") allows companies to invest more money in smaller movies.

Obviously it makes financial sense! I think it's all just beginning to feel cookie-cutter and formulaic--and, frankly, I'd like a change in the "big" thing. I know indie movies etc. exist, and I watch my fair share! I'm just eager for a new trend.

tl;dr: there's no particular Reason, and there's certainly nothing wrong with superheroes being a trend, I'd just like something new to get big!

Ah, well perhaps video games will be the new trend...when hell freezes over. :(

Formulas work for a reason, though. The superhero formula, at least, works. It makes for fun, entertaining movies. Some of them have some depth (Cap 2 for example), but mostly they are just fun. And that is okay. Then again, I think the DCEU dark superhero movies have run their course. What do those movies have? Still no depth, and not even fun.

Audiences aren't going to them in droves. Less people go to the movies now than ever before. The increased profits are due to wider distribution, tie-in merchandising now counting directly towards profits, and increased ticket prices (up an average of 100-150% in last 15 years in America and EU). But ticket sales are down, most indie films aren't widely distributed, and superhero films have been the most profitable of the last decade. It's ridiculous to say the studios aren't focusing on them since that's exactly what they're doing and plan to do just that for several years to come.

Yeah, there is some focus on them but it isn't like Disney only makes Marvel movies and not anything else.

I was referring to audiences going to superhero at roughly the same amount throughout the years of the superhero bubble.

Attendance to movies overall may be less than in the past but that is unrelated to superhero movies.
