Dude...I'm super critical about doctors and medicine (especially in terms of mental health), but go ask your grandparents what it was like to have the threat of polio or dying of measels. Vaccines are a good thing.

This. I had an elderly relative who had polio in his youth. I wouldn't wish that lifetime handicap on anyone - not even an anti-vaxxer.

I mean, there isn't actually another side in this case. It's been completely proven that vaccines work and have lowered drastically the number of people dead from those diseases. I'm not sure what the flip side to "all these not-dead people" is, or why people are supposed to be skeptical.

People might get AUTISM which will ruin their lives and more importantly the lives of everyone around them. What? Of COURSE you can develop autism in the middle of your life? What the hell is 'developmental disorder supposed to mean anyway?? /s

I'm skeptical simply due to my family history.

My brother is one of the few living survivors who had a major allergic reaction to the live pertussis vaccine. Kids like him are why the vaccine uses dead material now. He's in his thirties but has the mind of a 3-5 year old, is non-verbal, has no fine motor skills, and can't even wipe his own butt.

Me, personally, guess what happened after my first MMR? I got measles. That was a trip and a half. Thank God I was a healthy teenager at the time so I could handle it. I even still have the scars to prove it.

If I ever had children (since no one will take my reproductive organs), I would advise the adoptive parents to be very cautious simply due to history.

I'm sorry to hear that, anon. That's horrible, and I'm sorry it happened to you.

However, I hope you understand that this has nothing to do with vaccines' ability to prevent a host of horrible diseases.

I generally believe vaccines are a good thing, but I do agree people need to be careful, preferably getting an allergy test beforehand, if possible.

For instance: Fluvax is based on eggs. It is also not a once-off, because flu has thousands of strains. Someone with an allergy to eggs has to find out if there's a non-egg version or just spend the flu season being wary of getting close to potentially sick people.

I don't judge you for your opinions, but if you have children and those opinions lead you to not vaccinate your kids, you'd be a child murdered.

I'll judge them for their "opinions" because every time someone condones this bullshit they could be validating rather than shaming some shitty parent and I want them to shut the fuck up about it for fear of being shunned. There is no need for respect here, this movement has killed people.

I think of it like the folks who drink unpasteurized milk because they think it will make their immune systems stronger. When they get sick and die, at least they made their choice. When their five-year-olds get sick and die, that changes the issue completely.

It's cool if you wanna permanently kill your own kid, or cause them brain damage or make them permanently disabled, but you're putting other people's kids at risk too. You could be the cause of 50 kids' deaths and not even know it.

No, it's not. It's really, really not. Kids are people, not property, and deserve medical care. Kids deserve to be vaccinated even if their parents are morons.

Given the odds of having a bad reaction of any type to a vaccination, and the odds of dying from a preventable disease, I'll have the shots, thank you. Too many stories in my family of the horrors of polio, smallpox, diphtheria, and pertussis.

Really, that's a part of the problem. Knowing how to evaluate the odds is a life skill that's rarely taught any more.

I'd vaccinate my children, of course it'd be cat vaccines, or possibly dog ones, because the only children I ever see myself having are small, furry and four-legged. The dog would be Mum's though.

Oh, shut UP. Then do some actual science [most of which in the UK at least is funded by the taxpayer, not to mention the fact that the principles of vaccination/innoculation have been known for 200 years] and come back when you've learned some facts.
