Shoe help

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-09-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
My work shoes smell? And they're making my socks and feet smell. They're nice shoes otherwise, how to fix?

Leather shoes.

Foot spray. I use OdorX. You spray it on your feet in the morning.

What type of work? DO you get damp feet a lot? If you do then you need better shoes that are more watertight. Smelly shoes are usually a consequence of smelly feet than the other way around so I'd suggest some sort of anti-fungal foot powder and changing your socks often to prevent bacteria building up in them. And give the insides of your shoes a good scrub and let them dry totally before putting them back on.

If bacteria-related: wrap them in a bag and put them in the freezer for the weekend. I'm not kidding.

Odor Eaters inserts, baking soda. The problem is probably the insole, they tend to get warm and moist and grow bacteria. You can sometimes remove the old insoles and have new ones put in.

To eliminate odor:
Mix vodka (or distilled white vinegar) with water, spray into your shoes and let air dry from 30min to a few hours.
I prefer vodka because it's odorless but vinegar loses its smell after a while as long as you don't use too much.

To keep them from becoming smelly, keep them dry. Use foot powder if you have to.

forgot to mention! since it's leather, don't spray the outside of the shoes, concentrate on the soles

Idk but it's lunch in an hour and I'm near a local store that sells a bit of everything! I'll go buy it! I have a meeting right now 😰😰

You got a body spray, spray that in your shoes.

Did you get your feet wet? Are your socks wet? Info needed, you'll probably have to smell today though. Try washing your feet in the restroom, to get the smell off them, then use paper towels to try and dry out your shoes as much as possible, and bin your socks.

Body spray just means the shoes will smell like gross shoe stink and cheap perfume. Do not recommend.

Unless they're really rank, as long as you keep them on your feet the smell wil stay mostly inside the shoe. If you've got access to unscented air freshener or febreze or something, that'll freshen them up a bit temporarily -- do your socks, too. Just avoid the temptation to douse them in perfume or something heavily scented. That will just make them smell like stinky feet and perfume, and call attention to them.

Baking Soda in the shoes works for me. I just dump a bunch in the shoe, let it sit for as long as I can (Overnight usually) and dump the excess out in the morning. A less messy alternative would be inserts with baking Soda/Charcoal in them.

If you need new work shoes, there's a website called "Shoes for Crews" where you can get water resistant work shoes/overshoes at. They're a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

Quick context from bathroom break

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-09-15 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's been really wet a humid lately

I don't think I got the insides wet

It's definitely the shoes not my socks or feet (I was checking and other shoes are ok except garden shows which are disgusting and covered in mud and worse)

I think the smell is wafting after me 😰😰😰

Maybe you need some scented inserts? I know they are available at supermarkets, and the ones I'm thinking of are purple - lavender scent I believe. I forget what brand though, but just look for the section where shoe polish is (it's often in the same aisle as laundry).

Fill some old socks with some bicarb soda (maybe 1/2 cup each), tie the ends and stick them in the shoes when you're not wearing them. The bicarb should work as a natural odour eater without adding any new fragrances.

It's an amazing smell soaker-upper.if you have some little pouches, or something, you can use so you don't line your socks and shoes with powder do that.

Deies out any moisture that might have seeped in thru seams, too. Good luck!
