Anyone who claims to be fictionkin isn't worth being friends with, so you're not missing out.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
This.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that kind of thing makes me want to run in the opposite direction.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably not worth their drama to be friends with them. I mean, I'm sure there are some healthy, mature fictionkin out there, but I'm also the kind who's still sorta waiting for a unicorn to show up and spirit me away on a fantastic adventure, so getting me to believe in impossible things isn't a hard thing.

I think "fictionkin" are even more insane than their precursors, soulbonders, because soulbonders only said they shared their head with fictional characters, fictionkin say they're reincarnations of them.

I can believe in healthy mature soulbonders because I have, in the past, known two. I am a lot more cynical about fictionkin.

You're not missing out on fandom friends. You're keeping a safe distance from people who will jump down your throat the second you have an opinion they don't agree with. Trust me, it wouldn't make your fandom experience any better to befriend them.

better to keep your distance from people who's worldview is so fragile that the slightest whiff of reality will send it into nuclear meltdown mode.

Don't worry about avoiding the fandom crazies. It's a good thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. The whole 'kin' phenomena is fucking annoying. It's just people trying to claim ownership over a character so they feel their opinions hold more weight or some shit.

I've seen so many instances of people saying others can't ship certain ships because they have no memory of it so it never happened. Also they get triggered if someone else has an icon of their kin character to the point they don't even wanna speak to them.

Kin people can kindly fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hate it. It's been a thing for a long time, but it's just creepy to me. You are not a fictional character, period. You can't identify as a fucking Homestuck troll. I'd say it's not harming anyone, but there are definitely people who go around saying you can't do whatever with a character because "it's literally me!" and thus they make the rules. No, fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I read this as "fietionkin" and sat here in bzuh? Thanks, others.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-09 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not missing anything, anon.

"-kin" are people looking to get their boundary-blurring of themselves and fictional people/beings validated ( http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Otherkin ), and crazy has a way of sucking you in even if you don't want it to.

Never heard of one single good, healthy "kin" story. From Victoria Bitters saga, to that Final Fantasy House, just nope.

Back away, Anon. Back away.

Fictionkin stuff always makes me worry some. When I'm showing 'myself' online I usually use a fat little fictional cartoon animal. Lets say it's a Gronkle from httyd (it's not) Because it's cute and it's more fun to draw a gronkle sitting on the couch watching TV than a human-avatar. Now I get all worried people will think I'm a gronkle-kin. I just think they're cute!

Yeah, fictionkin kinda weird me out too. I don't have anything against them (and I dislike the people who do and feel the need to be assholes about it) but I don't really want to interact with people saying they're characters from shows I've watched. I usually just politely avoid them and hang out with other people instead.

Lemme guess, Undertale? Homestuck? Overwatch? What are the Fictionkins' flavor of the week lately?

So, true story...

One time, I was posting a bio for an OC I was creating for a fic for a well-known fandom to get some feedback. This one person became angry that my OC wasn't disabled, specifically wheelchair-bound. They kept insisting that my OC that I literally made up out of my head was, in fact, wheelchair-bound and that I was erasing their disability.

It took me twenty responses of "Why do you think that?" (because I was genuinely / morbidly curious) for them to finally admit that, according to them, I was writing about them--my OC was actually them and that I had to include their disability because that was a part of who they were. ...and this was my first exposure to fictionkin. This person had co-oped an OC and I'm not even sure why. :b

I never wrote the story but I still have this OCs template. I thought about making them an Olympic runner. Too mean?

You must be new to fandom. The majority of fans aren't "fiction-kin." In fact, most rightfully ignore and hate them, because they tend to be destructive weirdos.
Unless your fandom is really tiny, it can't be that hard to find normal fandom friends.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's best to just block them.

Sometimes I get creeped out-- like, I mean... I don't know, some people are 'kin and creepy and other people are just doing their thing and it doesn't matter, and it's just a shame that the creeps tend to ruin it for everybody.

(although while there are non-creepy otherkin out there, and I assume there are quiet, non-creepy fictionkin out there as well, I have never run across a factkin who didn't hardcore set off my creep alarm)

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
RUN ANON RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

You are worth more than a fictionkin 'friend'.

I'm probably missing out on fandom friends.

Jesus, no. Run far away from them as you can. They are not worth the drama.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-10 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear, every time I block a new Hamilton-kin blog that shows up in the main tag, a new one springs up. Look, these characters were actual people, and some of the shit that they've been posting is pretty distasteful, even if not entirely disrespectful.

I'm all for live and let live, but is it so hard to keep to kin tags on Tumblr, and not invade the general character/actor/musical tags?
