I can't stand when people are hit in the head and they pass out but are perfectly okay when they wake up. That is not what concussions do! Being knocked unconscious is super bad for you. D:

That one bothers me too. I know it's done for convenience but I can never stop thinking about all the brain damage these people who were knocked out for hours should have.

Whenever I see that in TV/movies this always pops in my head:

Or punched in the face and just having a nosebleed. Being punched in the face is a good way to lose teeth, even from light punches.

Really though, there is a reason that in a lot of jurisdictions any blow to the head usually ups the level of an assault charge to the next level. If someone dies from a blow to the head then in a lot it is a top line attempted murder charge (usually allowed to plea down though, but...). Never hit someone in the head, even a punch to the kisser or slap across the chops, unless you are happy with them dying as a result. It is super easy for a head blow to become a fatal blow.

Any time there's a ~makeover~ it's always a girl with curly hair and they straighten it.

Agreed. Curly hair is awesome. I sometimes straighten mine, but mine is only slightly wavy, so it can actually look better straightened. I'd curl it if it wasn't so thick.

Subverted in St. Trinian's! Though you have to go through every version they do to her to get to it.

also, i hate makeovers where the glasses are gotten rid of. Which means most of them. Those scenes are probably paid for by contact lens companies.

this is a small one, but when a gay person is the only gay person they know. we band together irl.

D: I'm gay and have like no gay friends. I'm also a femme-type lesbian, so no one knows I'm gay. I need to cut my hair and wear more plaid or something..

Sometimes it's not even intentional. I laugh when people talk about how unrealistic it is for a group of friends to all be gay because my group of friends has less straight people than anything else and it's not even by design. We all came out at different times.

Unattractive and/or schlubby man gets the good-looking/hot woman.

Re: What are some common movie tropes that are completely unrealistic?

This pisses me off, too. Not because I'm inherently opposed to people of different beauty levels being couples (though studies show people tend to date within their "beauty" level). But it's NEVER THE OPPOSITE (ugly fat woman with fit, attractive dude) And it feels like the vast majority of media - sitcoms, movies, etc. - have the ugly/plain guy, hot woman thing. We need more plain/average looking woman in media in general.

Man, fuck you.

Re: What are some common movie tropes that are completely unrealistic?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-03 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
this is because most TV and movie producers are unattractive schlubby men.

Re: What are some common movie tropes that are completely unrealistic?

Fighting = hot = the one you are meant to be with.

I am all for a hate fuck but there are a lot of movies (and tv shows) that have couples that are downright cruel to each other as end game. I have trouble rooting for couples that I don't believe could make it IRL.

This also relates to opposites attract and any other romance tropes where the couple is actually really incompatible.

Any time movies & tv shows tackle school plays. The hard work put into it and the long rehearsal periods and the clique-y nature of drama club members never reflects my experience.

Most irritatingly, I always took issue with the episode of Castle where Alexis' b-plot is that her school is doing Grease, and she doesn't have the time with all of her other extra curriculars to star as Sandy, but apparently she has time to STAGE MANAGE the entire show? Bitch, get real.

The one where a single untrained civilian is perfectly able to safely land a passenger plane with just a few vague instructions over the radio. Even better if the plane is already damaged in some way.
