Thirty seconds closer to doomsday.

So the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists have moved the Doomsday Clock thirty seconds closer to midnight, first time they've ever used less than a whole minute interval. What does everyone think, other than they had to move it closer because of Trump simply being president? I think it means they expect Trump to be so unremittingly horrible going forward they expect to move it closer again a couple of times and they need to leave room to do so without bumping up against missiles flying territory.

Also, I totally respect them factoring in climate change, the defacto suspension of free speech, and the cavalier attitude to diplomacy, but I feel that Trump's close ties to Putin means global nuclear war actually is likely to occur. Hillary would have been more of a nuclear risk because she would keep pushing and eventually cross a line that Putin couldn't back down from and she'd have been likely to follow the old rules about how Russia always backs down. Trump's relationship to Putin means they are less likely to get into that situation to start with. Trump is still objectively a nightmare though, just more of an American (and possibly UK since they'll be more of a client state than ever since the Brexit) one than a global one; in the short term at least.

Seeing as how there is nothing an average citizen can do about this, I find no reason for me to worry. It's completely out of my hands, so why care?

Trump has said though that he doesn't get why we don't use nuclear weapons if we have them. Hillary wouldn't have been likely to actually use nuclear weapons I don't think. Trump absolutely would.

Nuclear bombs scare the living shit out of me, being as my whole life is grounded in what may be one of the 20 (maybe 10, probably not 5) most likely places for other countries to target, so this break of convention is no less than spooky, even if it means little.

At the end of the day, Hillary would have followed in the tradition of 70 years of American diplomacy. Now, say what you will about that foreign policy - and it has been bad in many ways - but it has demonstrably not led to nuclear war.

In counterpart, it is impossible to say what diplomatic policy Donald Trump will follow in general. He is an enormous X factor. He is an unknown and therefore a risk. He has certainly said some very Saber-rattling things, though who knows how much they mean. It is true that he is unlikely to start a nuclear conflict with Russia, due to his basically Russophilic foreign policy, but Russia is not the only country in the world and he's been much more aggressive towards China.

In general, though, what I'd say is that the reason Trump is a risk is not so much because of what he's done - in regards to foreign policy there at least could be justifications for most of the things he's done - but the lack of evidence that he understands what is going on and that he is doing the things he's doing for reasons that actually make sense, or that his actions can be reliably predicted, which might be the most important thing overall with regards to nuclear war.

I respect the sincerity of your views here but I really think they're wrong.

You... are aware that Russia and the US aren't the only countries with nuclear weapons?
And I don't trust the US in any way when it comes to nuclear weapons, considering they are the only country that was actually fucking demented enough to use them.

Every time I see these fake arguments, all I can think is OF COURSE you won your silly fake argument, because you were speaking for both sides, making the person you disagree with say stupid shit!

Whenever I see those posts, I assume people are doing it because it's cathartic, and it feels nice to feel like you won an argument without actually having to have an argument. And it lets other people feel like those who "like" the post would be on their side.

Is bullshit.

Basically use tax means that if you buy something not made in the state you live in, you have to pay taxes on it anyways to the state. Even if you say...live in NY and visit Florida. You buy a set of gold clubs while in Florida and ship them back home. You are supposed to pay a use tax to NY for those clubs (plus the S&H of those clubs). Because you...use them in NY?

I got an iPhone today! Which was overdue, because my phone for the past NINE AND A HALF YEARS looked like this. It could barely keep a charge anymore, and the worstest part was ALPHANUMERIC TEXTING. Nine and half years of alphanumeric texting and not being unable to reply to group texts and sorrow in general. ;____;

Been told the A in LGBT+ stands for "asexual", now I'm hearing it stands for "ally" as a way for LGBT kids to go under the umbrella without outing themselves then I looked it up and saw that it can stand for both, but people seem so adamant on making it stand for one or the other.
