Things you can't pull the trigger on

(Anonymous) 2017-02-11 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
KINDLE FIRE: I get so close and then convinve myself I don't need it. And then, as soon as I'm away from a computer, I remember I'd probably read more if I had a kindle.

SKATEBOARD PARTS: I have a deck, but the 22-year-old Wal-Mart wheels have long since eroded away. I've been watching a lot of skateboarding videos and really want to try again, so I have new wheels, a skate-tool and speed cream for my bearings sitting in my Amazon cart. But, I mean, I could barely roll down a gentle slope and couldn't cruise around at all when I was 12. Now I'm 34 and it seems like a waste of money nust to practice skating around my garage because I'm too wimpy to even go into my shared driveway, let alone a skate park.

I really think this must be what a midlife crisis looks like, except I'd like to live past 68 (maybe).

Kindle Fire is on sale (last time I checked) for $40...

And as someone with a Kindle Fire, totally worth it.

I have a Fire 7. $50 two years ago and worth every penny. Read, browse the net, play games. BMuch cheaper than even the ipad mini, and the battery lasts about 4x as long (and the interface is better).

I've been debating on whether or not to get a toaster oven. I don't need one but I want one. :|

I use my toaster oven all the time. It is the best thing ever.

Yeah, I love mine. I hate firing up the "real" oven unless I'm actually making big stuff so the toaster oven (I got a largish one, for a toaster oven) is great. Plus it has a warming option so I can reheat pizza or whatever without actually re-baking it. Pizza reheated in a toaster oven > pizza reheated in a microwave. Most bread-stuff is since the microwave makes it end up too chewy.

I love my kindle, I've had it for years. I have the most basic version, and it's the one I wanted the most. All it is is for reading books. No color, and has that lovely e-ink screen, so I don't get distracted by anything else and it really does mimic reading a book. I travel and move a lot, so it's a lot easier than real books. I definitely recommend it!

Yep, I debated between the Kindle Fire and a Kindle Paperwhite and ended up going for the latter.

Sure, I can't really browse the web, etc...but I don't want to? (that's what the smartphone is for) I just want something to read without glare (I was worried about the Fire being too shiny too). And I don't have to charge the thing for ages, even if I'm reading for hours at a time.

Between the two, I think you'd least regret getting a kindle. I'd say let the skateboard thing go. If you're gonna make a bigger purchase like you're talking about, go with the thing you know you're actually going to use.

New fitbit. I lost my old one and it's driving me mad not having my step count, but whenever I shop around for one I realize I can't really afford it. But then during the week I kick myself for not making the choice and just getting it. I could go without a few other things for a bit to make up the price.

If you only want to count your steps you could just get a regular pedometer?

Also if you carry your smartphone everywhere there's probably an app for that. I know my iphone came with one.

I've thought about an app, but I don't actually take my phone everywhere. If I just wanted to count steps on my walks or hikes I suppose it would work, but I'd prefer something more passive? I like how I can just wear a fitbit and bam, job done.

I like all the other features that comes with fitbit too. Plus, my sister is totally kicking my ass on the leaderboard for total steps! It's killing me. lol

I lost mine too, and it took about six months to really realize how much I depended on it to get moving. Replaced with a Charge 2 from the Charge HR, and I don't regret it at all. My only complaint is that the vibration isn't as strong, so the silent alarm really only works if I'm almost awake anyway.

I love the Kindle Fire! It's awesome. :D You can wait for a sale and get it for maybe 40ish. Or, if you're considering e-ink, you can get a used Kindle Keyboard for around 30 dollars. You can't surf or play games on it, but it's a great reading platform, easy on the eyes, no glare, etc. Also they come with free 3G for life, which means even if you're somewhere without internet access, you can download books and it costs you nothing. I was given one back when they were new, managed to wear it out after about four years, and bought myself a used one. I still use it as well as the Kindle Fire.

I have had an electric tea kettle sitting in my Amazon cart for months. I have a new stove-top kettle (which I regret buying for various reasons) and a microwave, so it seems like such a wasteful purchase. But I drink a lot of tea and it would be really nice to have an electric tea kettle with a glass interior to heat up water really quickly.

I got a "Bella" brand ceramic electric kettle recently, and it was definitely one of the best purchases I've made recently! (I needed something that didn't have plastic bits that would release chemical fumes.) Anyway it's amazing, no regrets, I'd never want to be without one again. It does a great job making lots of hot water, and best of all it's safe. I can turn it on and walk away and not burn the house down. Yay for safety! \*.*/

My electric kettle is the best thing I ever purchased. It shuts off automatically when the water is done boiling and I don't have to deal with water dripping all over the burner and causing smoke, which might not be a problem for you but it was for me. And everything is the exact right temperature.

I couldn't live without an electric kettle! In addition to using it for tea and cocoa, we also use it to cut down on cooking times for things that require boiling water. We got one that has different temperature settings and it even has a French press setting, which is perfect for those times when I make coffee.

I LOVE my electric tea kettle! Like you, I started off with a nice stove top one and it was great, but the electric one is so much faster and I don't have to worry about accidentally leaving the stove on or anything. I don't even have a fancy one, just a $20 one I got from Costco a few years ago, plus a cheap plastic one from Aldi for traveling. Both work great. I think it's definitely worth it if you drink a lot of tea!

If you're going to buy a tablet, buy one that isn't a piece of shit.

Other commenters here seem to disagree with that assessment.

I have a Kobo. LOVE IT. I read pretty much every lunch now, and it fits in my purse so I can just pull it out if I'm waiting around for something.

(Also, on the last trip I took, I managed to go without filling half of my suitcase with books.)

It's ridiculous, but... I tried the pumpkin spice powdered apple cider stuff because regular apple cider gives me heartburn and I loved it. I mean apple cider with extra cinnamon and nutmeg, A+++. But then Pumpkin Spice season ended and now just the regular is in stores. I have a 12 pack of it in my amazon cart, but I feel guilty because I can still get the regular and it's not that different. And what if I suddenly decide I'm tired of drinking it regularly? That happens sometimes.
