April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I just want to say that I hate April Fools Day and all the dumbass bullying little "pranks" that jerks pull on it. Especially at my place of employment. If I had my way all those Heath Ledger Joker wannabes would be fired at the first mean spirited prank.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but it definitely is both dumb and stupid.

Re: April 1st

Maybe you haven't been subjected to prank after prank after prank for five years running and told every time that you objected that it was "just a bit of fun". Having to change my clothes because people put ink bottles in my locker, and put bits back on my car before I can get home, for the sake of a joke is not a bit of fun. Not to mention the video they shot under my desk to try and get an upskirt shot and then put it on the break room tv. This is not funny and I shouldn't be expected to just laugh things off because "Its only April fools day".

HR does nothing about it? I hope you've told them.

Re: April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
HR is there to protect the company, not the employees.

Re: April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and if employees of theirs are taking upskirt shots of other employees and opening up the company to being sued for allowing sexual harassment... dealing with the people opening them up to lawsuits protects the company.

That is horrifying D:

Go to HR if you can. The upskirt photography is especially lawsuit worthy.

Re: April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that crosses a major line from "first mean-spirited prank" to "consistent and repeated harassment"

Keep a record of everything, go to HR, and if that don't work go to a lawyer

Next time your boss offers to give you a ride or an old TV, you should ask her to do something about the people vandalizing your car and sexually harassing you in the break room instead. Or, even better, file a police report because someone vandalized your car.

Like the cops would care about a practical joke on April 1st? They got real shit to deal with.

Thank you for reminding me April is about to start: I need to write out my rent check and I have a couple of deadlines coming up!

I am SOOOO happy this day falls on a weekend so I don't have to put up with this bs at work.

I dislike most pranks but I always like to watch for April fools jokes in the news or our local newspaper. There have been some real gems in the past and they are almost never mean spirited.

I like those. I also like Google's pranks, they're usually good.

Can't handle the banter?

Re: April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't think "banter" covers this kind of stuff and having to "handle it" should not be a requirement for having a life

Or a career.

To be fair I posted this having only read the OP. I was going off the vaguebooking.

Shouldn't have to handle altright sociopaths abusing a social convention to cover their harassment.

Re: April 1st

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, at least ill_omened doesn't work in a job where he has to investigate harassment or work with other people who would do so

Does Ill_Omened even work at all? I thought they were a Made in Chelsea kid.

WTF does "banter" have to do with pranks, and why can people not dislike something anymore without it turning into an issue of whether or not they can "handle" it?

Honestly I'm not even sure the idea of "handling" something even has much of a meaning anymore. Saying someone can't handle something is just a way to put a negative spin on them not liking something. Like you disagree with their opinion, so you reword it so now they look weak and incompetent for having expressed it (and hopefully keep their mouth shut next time they dislike something).

April 1st is my little brother's birthday, so it's a much more fun day for us. I totally agree (albeit very late) with what you're saying.
